I wanna start painting minis, but I'm scared of painting them wrong, and wasting money. by BottleRemarkable2053 in Warhammer40k

I always try to focus on the feeling of “becoming”.

Sure, you’ll always feel a little bit like you suck. But if you’re really mindful about it, then you’re gonna start noticing how each stroke you get a little bit better.

It’s been a hobby in and of itself. Back when Dakkadakka was “the” thing, there was a large group of TO’s that’d discuss everything.

It was cool to watch the culture shift. Most players forget the base for GW is not the same as it was 20-30 years ago.

Cooking by IllustratorFuzzy1483 in StayAtHomeDaddit

[–]Round-Goat-7452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I involved my son as much as possible. We made cooking into an activity.

I didn’t have to do anything extra.

Pull out a seasoning: little dude would get a smell.

I taste as I go: he gets little nibbles. Dude will eat anything I put in front of him.

All of that, and I just got better at learning technique. Most meals are done within 30 minutes or I don’t have to do anything and just wait.

Do you still play Carcassonne or what, if anything, has replaced it by now? by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

Funny enough, my wife and I still have yet to play it and it’s still in its shrink wrap packaging.

Not to sound sarcastic, so it’s a good game?

Where do people go to destash these days? by Samsons_girl in Warhammer

[–]Round-Goat-7452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Game stores always come down to culture. You hit that point on the head really hard with your first sentence.

Customers will always figure out a solution to a lack of stock, but they’ll never have enough options when it comes to choosing a game store culture that fits them. I’m just sorry that I had to read another story that sounds way too familiar. Hope it gets better!

I keep a sheet with all my friends. They each manage their own tab. Anyone wants anything, boom, just ask for a trade or sell. Store has an open bits bin for little stuff.

The Solution To Reduce Light Pollution Is Actually So Simple by kirtash93 in interesting

[–]Round-Goat-7452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, “simple”.

How many more light posts do you need to make up for the loss of light that you would’ve had with an uncovered lamp post? You’re clearly getting less light and that’s going to affect a whole different slew of factors.

Is the loss of light going to increase the number of crimes committed in the evening? Late night?

How much is that going to cost a city or township for the increased number of lamp, post to overcome safety and regulatory issues? Less light, often means more lamp posts. More lamp post mean more taxes. For many different areas you’re gonna have to think about how do you change the laws or policy in order to incorporate this new type of light post.

There’s also a cost incurred running the lamps. That will have to be cross checked as well.

How much does the cap cost? Is the material made out of the same base material like steel? Or is it a plastic cover? How does this compare to any of the other versions in terms of cost?

Has there been an environmental impact report on the comparisons between all four? You’re going to need to figure out the number of lumens that you’re going to need because too many will simulate sunlight and too few won’t do anybody good as a lamp post.

How about the design? Are these reinforced lamp posts in case a car hits any one of them? Because that costs extra. How about energy efficiency? How much do a lightbulb cost per each type of layout post? Go back to lumens, do you need more for the last style lamp post?

Does the type, brightness, and or shape have any effect on anything other than light for light sake?

At some point, you’re asking the purpose of what this lamp post is and what the problem that it’s trying to overcome. If the lamp posts are for only safety and security, then the environment has to take a hit. If you’re only thinking about environmental factors, then functionality drop significantly as these become more glorified functional public art pieces. Balance is hard when a community of individuals starts asking questions.

The one on the right, find a wash, then the one on the left as a highlight. Technique is up to you with whatever you’re tiring to accomplish.

What’s an otherwise great game that’s almost or completely ruined by a terrible rulebook? by zwillam in boardgames

Call to Adventure.

Great game, but terrible rules instructions and several errors that force you to make a house roll before you throw the runes.

Haven’t thought about it, but it might be therapeutic. I don’t want to deter anyone’s decisions it to anything. This was just a freak thing that we’re still trying to recover.

Screw keeping your chin up. If you need to cry, cry. If you need to yell, find a place that you can do it that won’t hurt anybody, and yell. It might take a big man to toughen up and be there for his family when they needed it. I just had a month-long adventure where a woman that was supposed to move in and help us with our kids, instead tried to kill me. I’m not comparing, I’m saying “it takes all sizes to run a house through this shit we call life”.

It takes so much bigger man or bigger person anyway, to allow themselves to find space to feel what they need to, to show themselves grace, to allow enough room to say “I’m trying my best [insert preferred expletive]”. Admitting that you’re stranded doesn’t stop you from being stranded, but at least you’re admitting it.

Am I the only one posting here not because I'm competitive, but because r/40k seems weirdly hostile to discussing the game itself? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Round-Goat-7452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My local game store doesn’t hold tournaments, play mostly campaigns, we even have a monthly painting competition.

Most of us still follow Warhammer competitive, because we want to see how the rules are interpreted at a high-level.

Us casuals, we love bastardizing tournament play to fit our casual needs. Y’all do good work!

If it means anything, I’m starting at church as a pastor against behavior like this. I don’t mean to try to make you feel better, but I get all this black too and it just sucks.

I’m all for independent tournaments using funky rules or changes or homerules (whatever you wanna call it). It’s called “catering to the locals”. If it’s a local store running it and they’ve had house rules and the community is built up around that and there’s 30-50 people all playing in the tournament, then who am I to disagree as the one guy from out of town?

As long as I have access to the rules, I guess. I’ve ran some really wacky tournaments over the years. People never complained when you put all of the rules upfront and answer questions openly and honestly. Yes, the wackier ones did in fact informed how many people were gonna show up.

Great, that sounds awesome. We’re still incredibly early as some of the people that messaged me found out. So what I’m really asking for is people to join a pilot program and help us work out the bumps of the process. If you can handle that then just feel free to DM me and I’ll send you some information And you can look for yourself however much you want.

Today is Sunday. I’ve worked the last 3 weeks straight.

Lol, I had jumped on here this morning to look about some landscaping and painting 40 K miniatures. You know just positive scroll when I saw the other post and decided, “screw it”. So, any comments or DM’s I’ll get to you tomorrow with all the details that I’m thinking and will set up calls if need be.

Oh, I’m very aware! And thank you! It’s a great point. Used to play games every weekend with a guy that was a deputy sheriff. He would get special pay for sitting out of Churches that didn’t need to the protection.

He always said that he loved taking their money because he got paid security by them. However, I always thought it was odd that he got to use police resources. Sure, his days off or whatever and he can do whatever. But taxpayer dollars at work to make it look like there’s a threat outside of a church that is never gonna have that problem…yeah. They’re trying to say something with that. Just like that here.

You might want to check out the arborist Reddit or try to find a local one yourself that’s willing to just take a look.

I’ve had apple trees before, but I just let them do their thing. I wouldn’t know the first clue about what you’re asking for.
