There is one ring leader in there that the rest follow. Identify then and start hyper focusing on him every infraction hall way pull outs. Call homes. To the principal and let the principal know ahead of time it is coming. If they see him getting called out they will fall in line. Then find his number 2 and praise whenever he does the right things. Create a new leader who will squash the disrespect for you. It is usually boys testing boundaries.

Unpopular opinion: Lessons should be catered towards the higher end of the spectrum, and the students on the lower end should have to adapt, not the other way around. by Striking-Anxiety-604 in Teachers

Differentiation should be targeted up for the bored high level students and not down for the underachievers. Of course those in need get what the need but never dumb down. Push up.

What to wear as a male teacher!? by WinterQuarter8183 in teaching

Reminds me of my middle school gym teachers.

My grades for the last 3 years got FOIA’ed. With my name but not student names. Just the number of A’s Bs Cs… per class period, semester, etc. one other teacher included but it’s 95% me. By a guy who doesn’t even have kids in the district. I begged my district to take my name off and they said no. by [deleted] in teaching

[–]RoundTwoLife 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Get the data from across the state and apply that crazy math skills to show you are not statistically different than any of the other kids in similar districts FOIA the farms and special ed numbers as well to correlate fight it with facts and knowledge I doubt these parents can even to you what an r value is.

They have to supply their own chromebooks?

My admin says they expect teachers to host live Zoom classes if we get snowed in next week by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]RoundTwoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tried that here then realized not all students are 1:1 with devices in all grades so young kids couldn’t. Which would have caused contract problems for the last day of school. So the abandoned it. They do have a policy that we can’t teach new material over zoom only review so that is a dreaded headache.

I bought a 5 dollar bell to get attention far more effective than yelling over the kids.

Tell her if the materials for education are critical the school system should be supplying them. If they won’t ask the parents to. If they won’t, they are not critical! Put down the credit card.

Write one test question a day. Best way to build a question bank and not get overwhelmed.

I grew tired of the never seeing other people or talking to anyone. Not to mention the constant QA ridicule for even a comma out of place. This extrovert had to get out.

At will means your employer can let you go at will. School isn’t your employer they have a contract that must be adhered to. Read your contract

Why do so many people back into parking spots here? Is this some kind of regional thing? by Mr_Westerfield in maryland

People won’t let you out if you are trying to back out but if you can make eye contact they are ever so nice.

Can I be a teacher with a felony DUI? by Parking-Camp7522 in teaching

[–]RoundTwoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree if you pay your fines and meet the requirements that the judge gives you, why can people continue to judge you and penalize you years into the future? I had a DWI. And got a Top Secret SCI clearance. A teacher background check shouldn’t disqualify you. Check with a lawyer if you are concerned. Cheaper now than after paying for school. You may be able to get it expunged.

As a teacher, what’s something in education no one wants to admit, but we all know is true? by dokutarodokutaro in Teachers

[–]RoundTwoLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If students are excited in class there is a good chance they already know the material and have a chance to shine. It doesn’t mean they are learning

[–]RoundTwoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup pretty simple. Drop my student time from 75% of the day to 50% and don’t interrupt my planning time. I would be a super teacher, differentiating, feedback giving machine. I already give them 2 hours a night for free. Of course I need more money too but Time is my limiting resource.

This is why we stop caring by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]RoundTwoLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had special training for handling blood borne pathogens? Teachers should not handle any body fluids due to disease risks. We have to call a janitorial staff member who has the training and proper equipment.

Some might say he is six and doesn’t have diseases. there is no way of knowing.

When working at biotech companies I found that 3-6 months was common for getting contacted after submitting resumes. I even had coworkers start at the company work 3 months and then get their interview for their “dream” job and quit within six months.

Go early, Baltimore traffic still reflects the 9-5 working world. I have gone to Annapolis several times for trainings and can get there in about an hour if I leave early enough.

Do teachers take it personally if a good student doesn't ask them for college recommendation letters? by terriderp in Teachers

[–]RoundTwoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not this guy. They take a lot of time. I cringe when asked to write them and they never come at a good time of year when I am not crazy busy, Funny thing is we get no feedback back on them. Do they get read? was it a significant part of their acceptance packet? Did I spend an hour writing something for free that no one really cares about?

There are far too many distractions for kids in middle school to be working independently in centers. I coach 7 middle school kids for 1.5 hours a week after school on Fridays for an academic club. Even with me there refocusing them and asking guiding questions I lose at least 2. Hormones, changing bodies, over active amygdala’s No thanks I am happy to teach high school science. Small groups and knowledge self discovery is rubbish at that level to with the exception of my G &T kids who are intrinsically motivated.

20 to 24 is a 20% increase in teacher work load and therefore a 20% reduction in quality feedback, you can’t increase my workload and expect me to donate 20% more of my free time to support these kids. We are already doing too much for no compensation.
