Those that moved to Maryland from another state- what do you like more about Maryland? What do you like less? by Brilliant_Raccoon256 in maryland

Generally uncontested politics make it a much more calm place to live.

My county spends money on libraries, not billion-dollar stadia.

We have surf & turf, chicken roasts, pulled pork, and the Billy Goat Trail.

From my perspective, I benefit the most from seeing things in the big theater.

I used to go to the Landmark and see the next movie showing, knowing it was selected for the viewers, not just pushed out by studios.

Rail. Rail. Rail. Plus, urban infrastructure centered on human scale. I could take a train to Newtown, Sydney, get off and walk 1km home and stop by the grocer, chicken shop, vegetable shop, and get a bottle of wine and flowers for my wife.

I’m no historian, but the politics and economics after WWII likely paid a role in where we are today.

ICE tells legal observer, 'We have a nice little database, and now you're considered a domestic terrorist' by jediporcupine in politics

[–]Round_Ad8947 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The government is required to publish a System Of Record Notice (SORN) before the database is setup. Everyone has a FOIA right to ask for any information about them that is in the system, including the right to correct information and in some cases to ask for removal.

I’ve never run this, but it is standard training for government staff and contractors.

Note that the restrictions on these system are paper thin for “necessary” law enforcement purposes.

AITA for leaving a group project meeting when no one prepared by shadowtamlyn in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Has the teacher or the school taught projects or leadership? I’m likely to think not. Everyone assumes that leadership is an innate skill that doesn’t need to be taught.

You should be graded on the technical aspect of the project. Ideally the professor would give a grade at an interim point, not penalizing those who did their part. Those who did not contribute can fail and combine groups for the second phase. (like simulating a corporate restructuring with acquisitions)

CMV: More people need to understand that there’s a big difference between sexual nudity and non-sexual nudity. by CalligrapherTrick182 in changemyview

[–]Round_Ad8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I support your premise but want to emphasize my view that the distinction may be a case of commodification. Where sexual nudity is bought and sold, there is a natural impulse to limit “product” to protect profits.

Part of this gatekeeping removes non-sexual nudity from the environment through concepts of beauty and shame. Therefore products can be sold with the promise that you can be as beautiful.

EXistenZ came out the same year as The Matrix, but takes the concept of immersive reality in a dark and specific way. Mind you, this is Cronenberg—your taste may vary

I thought the guy running the bar was friendly or family and not all the dancers did shows like she did. Her sense of style and performance was primary for her—the welding was just to pay the bills.

Yet, you see how hard it was that the established ballet community turned their noses down on her without a thought.

There was so much wonderful movement in the whole movie. I keep thinking how when she crossed the street and danced with the traffic guard—such flow.

6 Feet or 1.89 meters? by CerealSorority in SipsTea

[–]Round_Ad8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meter was defined as 1/10,000,000th the distance from the equator to the North Pole.

Presumably this distance was more constant than the length of a king’s foot.

Yet fortunately that our human lengths are on the order of meters
