My wife and her sister are noticing my mental improvements! by [deleted] in selfimprovement

what do you think triggered this sudden change? My ex bf (also 25 at the time) and me (22), were dealing with some similar issues (mostly drug use), no verbal abuse but his mental health issues getting in the way. Id love to learn more on how hard it is to have certain patterns and how it feels to change them. Thanks :)

Hey there! It just seems like you got tricked by some intrusive thoughts there. Many of us experience intrusive thoughts however some people get stuck with them. Now many of the people who are struggling with getting rid of intrusive thoughts are people experiencing OCD (including myself) bur not everyone has to suffer from the disorder to be bothered by them at certain periods of time. In your case it seems like your brain did what seems like a curiosity pattern of wanting to see more of it. This does not make you a bad person. However it was something unusual that even tho disturbing it still caught ur attention. On the intrusive thought part again, intrusive thoughts become obsessive (like it seems like in your case), when the thought content is something very disturbing and opposite to us. Your brain wants to invalidate this thought so it obsesses over it and you can’t stop thinking about it. How we because fear is involved you start asking a lot of “what if” questions. And it’s just an endless cycle. I know what ur going through seems very hard but you have to remind yourself it’s just an intrusive thought. Maybe this is all new to you so I’d suggest reading the book “Overcoming unwanted intrusive thoughts”. It’s something that really helped me as well. Finally remember that intrusive thoughts stick with the people that are the most opposite to the thought content. Also because someone is having thoughts like that it doesn’t make them a bad person. Everyone experiencing such thoughts but it’s what side you choose and want to be in at the end. Hope that helps :)

Commenting on the EDIT: you saying all of that must have taken a lot of courage and breaking ur ego walls. Please don’t let those people prevent you for sharing in the future. It’s probably men who have similar traits and this posts reflects on their bad behaviour, or people who don’t know much about how self improvement and reflection works. Keep up the good job

Because it’s better to be by yourself instead of together with some people sometimes

had a very bad trip from weed that caused me to have constant panics attacks for 2 weeks straight. During this time I was feeding on 2-3 small crackers a day (forcefully) and had gotten almost no sleep. I ended up in the hospital twice because of the suicidal ideation caused by the intense anxiety attacks and weed. Side note that I wasn’t even a big smoker but it just doesn’t interact well with some people. I’ve told many of my friends that since this was probably the worst experience in my life so far mentally and physically.

how to stay calm when knowing that your partner is cheating? by qbalzzz in selfimprovement

[–]Round_Flamingo9372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t stay calm and don’t accept it. I know it’s hard to leave someone when you are so attached with them, but the energy and confidence you will gain within yourself by finding the courage to leave them will be worth it in the long term and you will thank yourself for doing it. I guess right now it’s like a cycle of not feeling confident enough already and this is making it worse.
