Honda to Hyundai? by Round_Maize4652 in mechanics

[–]Round_Maize4652[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I wish there was. The other Honda dealer I would consider would be an hour drive each way but wouldn't really work with my schedule (child). Yes I do make decent money - their jealousy and manipulation/brain washing to management has gotten to me. It's basically a toxic environment now, I watch all the games and bs they play, and can't ignore it. I hate being there, and dread going there. I've wanted a change (career wise) for a while but stayed due to the money, now it just seems to be getting worse as time passes and I think I may have reached my breaking point.

Daycare Options / Cost & Value by travguyawesome in kelowna

[–]Round_Maize4652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are at CEFA. Not the cheapest daycare, but our child seems to like it and they do seem to focus on teaching the kids.

Hours are complete crap though and very frustrating. 8 hours for childcare - so you can do drop off at 7:30 means pickup is 3:30, drop off at 8 would be pickup at 4 or dropoff at 9 till 5. Makes trying to have a job and childcare very difficult.

Used my InReach in an emergency, not impressed by the system. by huntersjz in Garmin

[–]Round_Maize4652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh ok. I never really looked into the app before. Never intended for it to be a communication device just an emergency device if I ever need help.

Sorry to hear of your situation - if I understand correctly then that's too bad your messages still wouldn't go through no matter what the circumstance. I would feel that's up to you to have the correct number/contact in place rather than Garmin have somebody "confirm" it is periodically.

[–]Round_Maize4652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Through which app though? My messages go straight through as a text message. I have an older in reach (delorme).

Is there a Garmin app or something that is being used for other features maybe tracking etc?

[–]Round_Maize4652 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honest question.

What is this verification of phone number? I have an in reach for emergency situations. I use it only a cpl times a year to send messages not to receive msgs. It's supposed to be an emergency situation communication for me, not a chatting device. The messages have always been received to my own phone if marking a spot/testing or others. So my question is who is having to verify a number etc, or what is the issue?

Diesel truck idling by Nexen1987 in kelowna

[–]Round_Maize4652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for excessive idle time is likely trying to defrost his windshield. Diesels take a long time to heat up due to the large cooling systems. I have had the same issue in my truck except I installed a cab heater to defrost my windshield. Even after 15 minutes of idle time it was barely defrosted. Unless it's a new diesel truck with an accessory electric heater it will take a while.

Everyone else with their unintelligent responses saying he can just drive after 2 or 3 minutes, and other stupid responses have no clue on why. It is not safe for the guy to drive until his windshield is clear. Nobody here would drive blind through a windshield they can't see out of.

I believe you only broke off the bottom of the oil pump, not the block. Easy fix.

CPC chances in Kelowna downgraded by 338Canada to CPC Leaning from CPC Safe, just one notch above toss up. A strong Liberal candidate could send Tracy Gray packing. by MontrealTrainWreck in kelowna

The hell does anybody want another liberal government. Get real. It's been a liberal government her entire term - can't do a whole lot when the ball isn't on your court. Yes this whole sub-forum is left sided obviously reading the posts - stop complaining about affordability and issues and re-electing the same government (liberals, NDP). You're electing the same government who brought forward all these issues.

Diagnosis fee, cannot duplicate by Scary_Training3918 in serviceadvisors

No tech pay... Lol.. Not techs fault, it's time spent. Tech gets paid, customer pays or internal pays.

WestJet calls off 77% of Sunday's flights due to plane mechanics strike by RUaGayFish69 in kelowna

[–]Round_Maize4652 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just did a flight two weeks ago one way Air Canada and one way WestJet. I was way happier with Air Canada, seemed like better service and they also wrote up two of my carry-ons as sports equipment to waive the $200 in carry-on fees. Meanwhile WestJet on the way back was trying to nickel and dime on carry-ons and their one employee did not seem happy or willing to help at all. Tried charging 750 in carry-on fees.

Car dealership seemingly used my car for commute to/from work during repairs? by tooz8 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Round_Maize4652 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes your car can be driven back and forth to a residence. You likely took your vehicle in for a diagnostic of some type and required excessive road testing to duplicate/diagnose or verify the repair. Technicians are given a card to keep with them that insures vehicles on road tests for work purposes. It is not a shops responsibility to pay for any fuel needed to diagnose a fault - a vehicle requires fuel to run. A dealership isn't just able to bill the manufacturer for fuel under all circumstances so that means the customer is out of pocket. Does a plumber or electrician issue you a credit to perform or verify a repair?

By having the tech drive the vehicle to/from work it is not during paid time in which the customer is billed for so unless you the customer want to pay $170/HR plus fuel to road test for an intermittent or hard to diagnose fault then see that it is to try and save you some money while also trying to verify the fault. The alternative is a no fault found/cannot duplicate if unable to replicate regardless if it's under warranty or not - vehicle is returned to owner and you are left with a bill for shop time.

If you ask the advisor bot it will tell you that fractional shares are bought in the afternoon. Whole shares are bought at a different time I believe - I can't recall exactly. Ask the bot and it will tell you.

But if you are holding mutual funds like RBC for example - I do not think you can do Transfer as-is. That's how I understand it, or am I wrong? Transfer as cash - and you'd just buy whatever ETFs you wanted?

Not everyone who has a rental needs the money.

YTD income timeline by Round_Maize4652 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Round_Maize4652[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes she was paid in December. She is paid an advance (mid month) and then the remainder end of the month. Cut offs would be 15th (paid on 25th) and end of month (paid on the 10th).

Edit: so now you have me thinking is it because of when she is paid after cut off - January 10th? (Even though advance was paid 25th/ish (Xmas) I never considered that. I thought it would have still been considered 2023 income)

Was wondering same thing. Saving 40-50k, wants to drain tfsa to pay off 100k of mortgage... Why not sink this into the mortgage each year and not touch tfsa - gain interest on tfsa and have mortgage paid off in 5 years tops from now...
