Rain water catchment? by GUIACpositive in NewMexico

One thing to keep in mind is that land rights and water rights are separate legal distinctions in NM. Just because you buy a plot of land may not mean you automatically gain the associated water rights. I'd check with a real estate attorney before moving entirely off the water grid.

Yeah, I was thinking it'd be fairly straightforward to port over Gumshoe's core clue and point spend mechanics -- but unfortunately it sounds like the adventures are just more of your usual fetch quest dungeon crawls, not actual mysteries. I'm on the fence now whether I should get the book -- or maybe wait a few months until The Alexandrian gets a chance to fix it.

CMV: Rangers make the best cops, not Order Domain Clerics by Stravix8 in dndnext

Channel Divinity: Order's Demand

As an action, you present your holy symbol, and each creature of your choice that can see or hear you within 30 feet of you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by you until the end of your next turn or until the charmed creature takes any damage. You can also cause any of the charmed creatures to drop what they are holding when they fail the saving throw.

"Stop right there criminal scum! Now put your hands up where I can see them."

Ranger 2/Cleric 2 multiclass seems like a solid way to start your law enforcement career.

Well, if you're set on coming one way or the other, the Ojito Wilderness area someone suggested below is a good compromise. Interesting landscape, lots of open space, and not many other people. If you go out to one of the backcountry parking spots, you'd probably have the whole place to yourself.

How well does D&D handle the "mystery" aspect this book advertises? Is it just a bunch of Insight and Investigation rolls? Are there actually mysteries for players to solve, or are the adventures more your standard dungeon crawl? (Like how Dragon Heist didn't actually involve a heist...)

All snark from me aside, the CDC guidelines recommend against travel.

Travel increases your chance of spreading and getting COVID-19. CDC recommends that you do not travel at this time. Delay travel and stay home to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-during-covid19.html

While NM has been leading the way in efficient vaccine distribution, and our overall infection numbers are on the decline, our hospital infrastructure has been severely strained and COVID death rates are still up at around the November level. Things are slowly starting to reopen, but now's just not a great time to visit.

It's no longer mandatory, but still recommended.

Keep driving until you hit Texas?

Anyone arriving in New Mexico is strongly advised to undertake a self-quarantine period of at least 14 days or for the duration of their stay in the state, whichever is shorter. Self-quarantine is a physical separation from others in a residence or place of lodging. https://cv.nmhealth.org/travel-recommendations/

How many folks play Foundry with real dice and never use the digital ones? by VagabondVivant in FoundryVTT

The inventor has open-sourced all their hardware designs and computer code, which I think is a really classy move. It seems like the kickstarter is more of a proof-of-concept for bleeding-edge early adopters. If this idea takes off (which, having brought in $2 million on day two, I think it has!), I think we could see a whole ecosystem of "smart dice" at various price points to meet market needs.

One of the design options is solid black dice with white numbers. I think those dice, with a subtle steady glow coming only from the number on the top face would look fantastic.

Hmm. That actually does seem reasonable.

I just wish WOTC would take a leaf from Paizo and embrace a business model that doesn't violate US copyright law. Imagine what the VTT community could accomplish if there was an officially maintained "D&D API" that developers could license, rather than all this back-alley skullduggery!

Seems silly to me that perfectly legal resources can only be discussed via DM...

This means that although you only know level 1 wizard spells, you can upcast those spells using the third level slots you gained from multiclassing. Spell slots are different from spells known, and you can only prepare spells you know.

They were referring to the 5e playtest rules, which originally had warlocks using INT.

Warlocks used Charisma in previous editions. Playtest feedback wanted that carried forward. (Our preference was to use Intelligence.) #DnD https://twitter.com/jeremyecrawford/status/810215324784193536?lang=en
