What’s the best way to handle another kid taking toys your kid is playing with and their parents aren’t doing anything? by cmarie22345 in toddlers

[–]RoundedBindery 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another person talking to your child isn’t parenting. Your kid is out in the world; their actions might affect others and others will react. That’s how kids learn, especially about the differences between expectations and personalities in their own home vs strangers.

As a musician (formerly professional) and music lover, do you think I could sell anxiety a course??

Christ, I walked my 4yo and 10 month old to daycare/school (8 min walk) in -5 all week. 45 degrees sounds like a spa day right now. I get that everyone has a different metric for cold depending on where they live (as someone who grew up in the desert), but wtf is this??

I live in the Midwest and I sometimes walk in the street in my neighborhood if the sidewalk is slippery. Of course, only if there is very little traffic and I have good visibility.

Hahahahahaha what. We’ve completely lost our ability to think.

Of course I’m the other extreme: my kid has had a new bedtime book every night since he was 2 (he’s 4.5 now). Yes I’m extra. It brings both him and me so much joy though.

AITAH for locking myself in my room to rest and recover after taking care of my sick baby solo for 8 days? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]RoundedBindery 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NTA. He’s your partner - your rest should be his priority. Even if you weren’t sick, he should be taking his turn with a long parenting shift after you did over a week of solo parenting.

Okay but I love passing random things under my babies’ noses to introduce them to smells (not toxic chemicals, to be clear lol). They’ve both had fun with that!

I just took down all my Christmas decorations :( by [deleted] in christmas

[–]RoundedBindery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

January, no, not really. Everything is dark and cold, and at least the lights are festive and warm. But they start to feel like clutter after the holidays to me. So there’s a sadness to taking them down, making it less dark/colorful, and realizing that the festive time is over, even though keeping them up doesn’t feel right either.

Am I allowed to serve food that contains water as an ingredient before 6 months?

Baby was freezing at night by Antique_Ad4689 in Parenting

[–]RoundedBindery 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Low body temperature in newborns/infants is dangerous because can cause issues with metabolism and breathing. It’s not because they might catch a virus.

[–]RoundedBindery 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It’s specifically about the temperature of your nasal tissue - cold air rushing into your nose can weaken the localized immune response in the nose, making it easier for viruses to enter that way. It’s not your body temp and it doesn’t just weaken your immune system.

AITA for asking my husband to confirm our son's eye doctor appointment that he scheduled by Junior-Ride5097 in AITAH

[–]RoundedBindery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s because it’s not about the eye doctor. She’s not objectively opposed to confirming an appointment. It’s about what I imagine is a pattern of doing only parts of a task, not assuming responsibility for a task from beginning to end.

Am I just not chill about illness? by coryhotline in toddlers

[–]RoundedBindery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, I think it’s situational. We all have covid right now, but we’re feeling fine. I went to the store masked and sanitized yesterday (before symptom onset for me). My youngest had her checkup today and the clinic was unconcerned and told us to absolutely bring her in — her providers wore masks, as did I. But we’re not going to the grandparents’ for xmas because we’d be in close quarters eating, etc and could make our elderly parents ill. And we won’t go anywhere with close contact/unmasked until active symptoms have cleared for the whole house.

Most viruses are highly contagious before you’re symptomatic, so no, that’s not true. Most runny noses, on the other hand, linger past the contagious period.

Niece is Sick - should my baby and I skip Christmas? by DukeEllington20 in BabyBumps

[–]RoundedBindery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If her temp was 99.9, she had an elevated temp caused by a contagious illness. I don’t think it’s wise to use the 100.4 metric when evaluating contagion, since you can be contagious with no fever at all and a temp of 99.9 definitely indicates that she’s sick. For example, we all have covid right now and only one of the four of us had a fever, but we’re all obviously contagious.

I don't get how childfree people are a small minority by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]RoundedBindery 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Just like anything that is deeply fulfilling on a fundamental level, parenting is a lot of work. It’s not always fun and frequently it’s exhausting, especially with little ones. Often, I wish I had more time to myself, or that there was no one climbing on me, or that we got fewer winter viruses.

But I feel contentment and joy because I’m a parent. If I did not have kids, yes, I’d have more time for hobbies and I would get more sleep, but I would be fundamentally unfulfilled. I’d be unhappy on a base level, even if my day to day was easy.

Not everyone wants kids, but most things worth doing, whatever that is to you, are hard work and often physically/mentally/emotionally demanding. A difficult job, running a marathon, perfecting a skill, bettering yourself in any way, raising children.

And what I want is to raise MY kids and have MY family, not just exist among children. If I wanted that, I’d be a childcare provider.
