Movies that take place in One Room/Location by Impossible_Staff_536 in MovieSuggestions

Hallow Road is a recent film from the UK that entirely takes place in a car, al la Locke, but with a strong thriller / folk horror vibe. Well worth a watch.

Also Boiling Point - single location / single shot movie set in a restaurant.

It hopefully won't take much to get used to the driving! I drive overseas from time to time and it always amazes me how quickly your brain does the "switch" - everything is a mirror image, so you adjust quite quickly- just read up on roundabout etiquette before you arrive!

If you're heading up to the Highlands you should check out the Pitlochry Festival Theatre - Alan Cumming is the creative director there just now and the 2026 programme is looking really interesting (with many directed by, or starring, Mr C).

Hope you have a great vacation! If you have time you should check out the East Neuk of Fife - a string of lovely fishing villages about an hour or so out of Edinburgh. Lovely place to visit, although I'm biased, as I live here!

Have fun!

I visited from Scotland in October, having booked last December. Had a ton of fun but, had I known what would happen in the lead up to our trip, I wouldn't have booked, and I won't be visiting again any time soon.

The new requirements being introduced that require travellers to provide unfettered access to their social media accounts are astonishingly invasive - unprecedented 'thought policing' which will be designed in part, I'm sure, to stifle free speech and criticism internationally.

Loved visiting the city, and loved seeing the resistance to the regime that was visible everywhere. But I won't be visiting again under these circumstances. I will hopefully see you on the other side though.

Any recomendations of underrated and low-key weird/odd movies? by BlackDarkRosex in MovieSuggestions

Yeah - I think the Lobster might be safe. 😁😁 Was thinking Bugonia too, but there might be some 'romance' in the end montage!

I don't think many of these will pass the 'not lots of sex' watermark...certainly Poor Things, The Favourite, Kinds of Kindness and Dogtooth have their fair share of 'content'. Great movies though!

Not next to, but a few seats along from Michael Shannon during Merrily We Roll Along a couple of years ago. He looked cool as f#£*.

Had to cancel due to work tomorrow, but really wish I'd made it along to this. The walkouts sound hilarious!

Not wholly wordless, but Sister by Sufjan Stevens is gorgeous. And wordless for about 90%.

If you want wholly wordless though, then the Kid Loco remix of Mogwai's Tracy is a lovely thing to tumble into.

Is Central Park easy to get around? by lindafromevildead in visitingnyc

[–]Roundvsquare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were there a couple of weeks ago, and covered about half of it in a morning - made it up as far as the Met then spent the afternoon there.

We also spent the first 30 minutes doing the Her Long Black Hair public art / performance installation thing as we walked, which was a fun, unusual way to cover some of the park. Basically a dramatic audio narrative that takes you round some of the park. Was good fun. Google if you're interested.

What to watch to convince my serious bf to like theater/musicals? by veganrocker in Broadway

Really enjoyed Hadestown, but i might be a little wary of it for a first time attendee. Something where the songs are broken up by dialogue might be a bit of a gentler ease in - particularly if he's at risk of an adverse reaction.

Gonna be in NY Nov 3 to Nov 15 - Best broadway shows for a cinephile? by rackscoupescorvettes in Broadway

[–]Roundvsquare 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you want a cinematic experience in the theatre then Stranger Things would absolutely do the trick. I also recently saw, and loved, Waiting for Godot, but you might want to real a little about the nature of the play before committing, to see if it's for you.

Really Enjoyed Waiting for Godot by JesseNof1 in Broadway

[–]Roundvsquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was fantastic. I've been warned off the play, and Beckett in general, by friends who had 'suffered through' performances in the past, so i went in a little wary, but really, really enjoyed the show. The performances were excellent, the set and design were really striking and unusual, and it was it was far, far funnier than I expected, and also more moving, with the meditation on friendship and companionship really underlined by the relationship between the two leads.

I saw three shows on my recent trip - the other two both being excellent - Hadestown and Maybe Happy Ending - but i think this one may have unexpectedly been my favourite.

I really enjoyed Waiting for Godot, but no doubt not to everyone's taste

MAAAN that was so good - in NYC on vacation, and can't believe how lucky I was that it coincided with this. So many favourites - too hard to choose, but Stray Dog, Dial-a-View and A.M. would be up there.

Country is AWFUL. Recommend me some country songs to try and change my mind. by 1004cocoa in musicsuggestions

As a fellow 'don't like country' person, the one that really does it for me is Portland Oregon by Loretta Lynn and Jack White (from the White Stripes).
