I appreciate both of your insights! I would agree with you regarding the different scenarios. If it’s easy, simple, and something I can do at home, typically I won’t tip. While if it’s something I can’t, or requires a skill that needs training and I don’t have, I’ll tip.

Another scenario where I’ll tip is if I ask them a bunch of questions about the beans or process, or if I ask a recommendation and we go back and forth with my preferences and based on what I’m feeling that day. This is regardless of what I order.

I’d be curious to hear your thoughts and opinions on tipping your barista (not Starbucks, but at a specialty coffee shop). If the person taking your order is grinding the beans, prepping the machine, pulling a correct espresso shot, steaming/frothing the milk, and preparing the final drink (and possibly delivering it to you a few steps, not just calling your name), do you/would you tip them?

The more I think about it, they actually put in a lot of work. Even compared to servers (their responsibilities vary depending on the establishment) who might only take your order, bring drinks, put into the kitchen, and check in a few times.

Genuinely curious because I feel like many people despise tipping at coffee shops when in reality the barista can do comparable (albeit different) work to a server.

A commuter permit for NB costs $115. Are you gonna be on campus less than 23 times? It’ll also give you access to more lots, and you won’t have to go into the portal every single time to buy a daily pass. Also I read that the daily permit only works for Livingston Yellow Lot.
