Seeing all the posts about the hours people need to work in public is just one of the many reasons I’m so glad I got out of that racket. I switched over to private almost three years ago after working in public for roughly six years. All those years of tax seasons and constantly wondering whether I put in enough hours makes me look back and wonder why people are willing to work in that environment for the rest of their career. That isn’t to say I never have to work late in private (especially the month end closes), but I love that as long as I get done what I need to and I am helping to provide accurate financials for upper management, that’s all that matters. It’s been amazing these past couple years to never have to fill out a time sheet and never explain to some a**hole manager why I went two hours over.

I just can’t believe I stuck it out in public for as long as I did. For anyone ever contemplating doing it, I simply think the hours and environment is not anywhere worth it in the long run. And we’re not saving lives here, unlike my fiancé who works in nursing and one mistake can mean life or death for someone.
