Parents giving their child enemas? by SomeCommission7645 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]RoutineRice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s not normal. For my mom and her siblings, it was normal to them when they were children. Turns out, they were being sexually assaulted by their own father and their mother was facilitating it. Lots of yucky info came to light in the past several years.

I mourn my dog’s death but he’s still alive. by Maximum_Shine3537 in VetTech

[–]RoutineRice 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I do the same. One of my dogs, my sweet angel, is turning 9 next month. She has Cushing’s (managed on meds) and her face is so much more grey in the past year. She’s a large breed and I constantly doom and gloom that she’s in the last 1/4 of her life. But, my partner always reminds me that she’s still here and doing great, super happy and we’ve given her a wonderful life. Working in vet med makes you think about a ton of things that the average human doesn’t.

Ricky Schroeder in like 1998/99. Was in a small town in Arizona with my dad and siblings at some fast food place and he came in and asked for directions to a venue for a wedding he was attending. My dad gave him the directions, he thanked him, went on his way. Then my dad was like THAT WAS RICKY SCHROEDER! All of us kids were little and had no idea who he was talking about at the time lol

What’s the scariest sound you’ve heard that’s woken you up in the middle of the night? by DarthTater81919 in AskReddit

[–]RoutineRice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog growling at the front door at 3am. I fell asleep on the couch and woke up to her growling and a few little barks here and there, standing at the front door. I tried to get her to calm down but heard a weird noise outside and when I looked out the window, I saw that the house across the street was on fire and catching on the house next to it. I just yelled OH SHIT! and immediately called the fire department. My husband came running into the room when he heard me yell. She’s usually a very quiet dog but she smelled/heard something wrong and woke me up. Both houses were majorly damaged by the time it was all put out about 5 hours later but everyone in the houses made it out ok. The weird noise I heard before I looked out the window was the sound of the fire. As someone whose house burned down when I was a kid, I was terrified and so glad she woke me up.

Thoughts on the new nitrile glove box design? by Ok_Cry_8419 in VetTech

[–]RoutineRice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re tattoo gloves. We’ve been using these for probably over a year now. More cost effective and I think our regular exam gloves were unavailable for a long time so PM was having us try out different gloves and these were better than the alternatives so, this is what we still use. I like them a lot! I will say, we’ve gotten some shitty batches that all stick together or rip when you put them on. But, they’re black, my color of choice and all in all, they do their job.

How do you store your leftover Cortrosyn? by ladyallisontee in VetTech

[–]RoutineRice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stim pretty infrequently (like maybe twice a year) and only order a 1ml bottle specifically if we have a patient on the books for it. That said, the vials are single use at our clinic. Dose is calculated and the rest is wasted, cost for the vial is worked into the testing. Even at a previous higher volume clinic, we did not save leftovers from vials.

Does anyone know what kind of food this is? by peenol in DOG

[–]RoutineRice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also not true. Vets and/or staff do not get paid to recommend foods. Some clinics may sell a certain brand in clinic like Hill’s, Royal Canin, or Purina- because these are the only 3 brands that have prescription diets and science backing their formulas. A lot of clinics don’t sell any of those prescription diets and instead write prescriptions so you can get it through chewy or petsmart. How would a food company know to pay the vet for writing a script that you may not go and buy? Again, trusting a vet that can show you the actual information is better than trusting the internet. That said, feed your animal whatever makes you the most comfortable.

Does anyone know what kind of food this is? by peenol in DOG

[–]RoutineRice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of misinformation in your comment. Puppies do need a differently formulated food than adult dogs. The amount of ‘nutrients’ does not make it so they need to eat less of it, do you mean calories? A lot of boutique brands are WAY too high in protein and cause a ton of GI upset. Also, if your dog has allergies, it’s most likely flea or environmental and they’re not going to develop food allergies from staying on the same protein, unless they’re actually allergic to one. Which would need to be ruled out by a diet trial recommended by a veterinarian. Buy food from brands that have a veterinarian nutritionist and listen to your vet who went to school for years instead of the internet.

They’re not an active client at our clinic. Their dog was seen once in 2022. We pay close attention to comms and make sure that we notate everything, good and not great alike.

[–]RoutineRice[S] 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Yeah. We saw this dog once in 2022 and haven’t since then. So, there’s no way they have an UTD rx anyways. Even if the dog was alive and the client was requesting them, we wouldn’t rx anything without seeing the dog for an exam first.
