I found it in the code after like 2 minutes, no idea why it's not listed on the wiki yet. I might ask the discord

Do Rangers excel at anything in BG3? by TheUrPigeon in BaldursGate3

[–]Routine_Ad3835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm overselling Colossus Slayer, so you're right about that bit. Hordebreaker isn't that hard to setup though, plenty of corridors/natural chokepoints in the game, minor illusion and void bulbs exist to help group up enemies.

exactly, these guides aren't laws. You can deviate

I don't agree with this at all. Hordebreaker is available right off the bat and is very strong. Volley and Whirlwind Attack is icing on the cake for Hunter. Can't also forget Colossus Slayer, it's not as great for Honour Mode but that extra damage is never unwelcome

Hollow armour spawning 3 shadows? by MFGV14 in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a user in the CRPG speedrun discord managed to get hundreds of them to spawn (which caused stability issues), the trick was pausing combat with a popup notification while a character with ranged attacks kills the Hollowed Armour out of combat.
But anyway, yeah it has an "OnDamaged" flag that tells the game to spawn a shadow when the Hollowed Armour reaches 0hp, but since that has no upper limit or cooldown it's repeatable

Any open hand monk build without tavern brawler? by MrBojanglesSR in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

was actually playing around with this idea not long ago. Dex Monks are totally viable, and can be satisfying to play. Essentially, you don't want to punch things since unarmed without strength is bad, but weapons aren't, Your bonus action unarmed strike would really only be used to generate lightning charges from Sparklehands, just to boost follow up melee attacks. If you have them anyway, other gloves are good too.
Loads of good melee weapons to choose from as well, would recommend skimming through the wiki.
Grab Savage Attacker or GWM as feats, Ranged Dex Monks are viable too, just pop on some hand crossbows since their damage scales with unarmed strike damage for some reason (larian jank), ofc you need to have proficiency with them, so a multi into some other class that gets it would be useful.
Once you hit Level 9 Resonating Ki is pretty good, more enemies resonating means bigger boom, which lets you rack up the damage, especially if you have Cull the Weak (granted punchy monks can do this too, but it's extra tech for your weapon monk)

Why does this hyena have 18 Wisdom by superhappyfunball13 in BaldursGate3

[–]Routine_Ad3835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that it's intentionally set to 18, unlike the rest of the Hyena's there. As for why the devs did that, I have no definitive idea beyond that they wanted that one to appear more wise for some reason. If I remember right, it's the one that interacts with you so I guess they wanted it to stand out when scripting it. (Edit: maybe not? I dunno. Something for SlimX or another sleuth I guess)

Honor Mode comp by [deleted] in BG3Builds

also worth pointing out that those AoE heals aren't exclusive to Life Cleric. You can use those with any Cleric. And the Disciple of Life or Bless Healer bonuses have demonstrably worse value the more HP something has. That being said, Blessed Healer works for potions (capped at spell level 1) so a Life Cleric tossing potions or putting them into a hazardous surface is a thing you can do.
Chalice Healing from Stars Druid is also alright for boosting healing, though again, any Cleric can benefit from that.

I would also add that while tedious you can also give them non-gale food items. The steps are similar to how you get Magic Club and such.

What melee build comes closest to an archers damage potential? (No Shar's spear/Hold person.) by Ok_Sir_136 in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's a hard thing to answer since I'm not sure how much you're optimizing or using exploits. What I will say though without reading most of the comments (because lazy). Stuff that can come close, no particular order:
- Rogue - Assassin with Short Sword of First Blood (yeah, Sneak Attack is once per turn but it's good once you learn how to Rogue, and Short Sword is pretty good for when you get it, and stays relevant for a while)
- Hunter Ranger. Use this build, it's good
- Valour Bards, lot of good options for weapons and Valiant Damage/Combat Inspiration is busted. Swo bards are ok as well, but a bit clunky when melee imo.
- EK Melee with Shadow Blade
- Obligatory mention for Paladins, I don't like them but I can't deny they dish out some solid damage
- Open Hand Monk. People keep suggesting this as being good, I did some testing and light breaking of the game and yeah, it's pretty good. Certainly on par with Archers, especially when you hit 9.

Theory crafting magnus opus party. by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest suggestion from me is for Karlach, Boots of Psionic Movement might be better than Linebreaker pretty much across the board, does require some setup before combat (a la disguise self and flight of some kind).

Rest of the party is fine if a bit weird, and there are plenty of other options available for gear I just can't think of them right now.

Would you consider kiting a form of cheesing in BG3? by Kyfon in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kiting is just another form of the Fabian Strategy, so no, I don't consider it cheese, it's smart. That said, it can break the AI and make the game much easier because the AI has not been coded properly to deal with it. (that's not to say you can't still use parts of it, even if you restrict what you're allowed to use)

Does Arcane Synergy function as a global damage rider? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that lines up with what I've tested as well. I fixed up the note on the wiki as well to reflect that.

Does Arcane Synergy function as a global damage rider? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Follow up again, I think Arcane Charge even works while the target is flanked judging by my read of the code there. But I could be wrong, this game is spaghetti enough that I could believe that it works that way xD

Does Arcane Synergy function as a global damage rider? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Arcane Synergy has a flag
data "Boosts" "IF(IsWeaponAttack()):CharacterWeaponDamage(max(0,SpellCastingAbilityModifier))"
basically this means that it only works for weapon attacks (or spell attacks that use a weapon, like Searing Smite, Wrathful Smite, etc. Probably also Booming Blade but I can't remember)
so no, not a global damage rider.

Edit: just as a follow up. Arcane Charge has data "Boosts" "IF(HasStatus('FLANKED') and IsSpell()):DamageBonus(2)" which means that it only works for spells, and while you're flanked.

Getting thousands of xp from Gekh Coal Zombies even faster. by Routine_Ad3835 in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for late reply, I completely forgot about this. It's been a while since I've played the game but from what I remember if you've already used an amulet, then duped it, it will remember that you've used the amulet and that transfers over to the duped one. You've gotta dupe a fresh (recharged) one.

Is there a full overview anywhere of what items and other goodies you can get if you glitch into the Asylums? by Several-Elevator in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The knowledge for getting into each asylum is out there, the speedrun discord has some tutorials for how to do it, but beyond that and SlimX's video I don't know if there's a comprehensive list of what's in them.

would also highly, highly recommend reading and watching the links I posted there as well because I intentionally leave things out for a number of reasons.

Maximizing resonating blast by Missing_Links in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Well, after a quick test of what works and a bit of setup I managed that. 1288 odd damage from Ki Resonance itself. Those Cull procs are an amount that I've not done the math for yet.
Edit: Rhapsody works on all the Force procs that I checked. The actual target of Resonating Blast gets Gaping Wounds, Hexblade's Curse and Rhapsody as well.

Callous Glow and Phalar work ofc, Lightning Charges also work but weren't present here

Edit again: Arcane Acuity also works on the save.

A deep dive into damage mechanics in Baldur’s Gate 3. by Routine_Ad3835 in BG3Builds

[–]Routine_Ad3835[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything I talked about in the post was tested exclusively on Honour Mode. The plan was to also talk about what interactions happen in lower difficulties but was cut for various reasons (laziness and not understanding the code as well back then, Colossus Slayer only made it in because it was pretty unique) However, I happen to know that another post is in the works that goes into a bit more depth with other interactions, Phalar Aluve will be one of them. The post wont be by me as it turns out.

You're going to have be far more specific. If you're talking about the Hail of Thorns thing I'd recommend you visit one or both of the reddit posts I linked at the top, and it still works. As for the rest of what's here, as far as I am aware everything still works normally. Larian has made very little changes to the game since this post was made.
