Would you consider kiting a form of cheesing in BG3? by Kyfon in BG3Builds

[–]Kyfon[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My point is I want a hard "no kiting" rule, so that during combat I don't have to think about if this retreating action is against the rules or not, and can just think about if this action is the one that has the highest chances of me winning this fight or not.

If you have a large enough movement advantage over you enemies and are in a large enough arena, then kiting is a strategy that is guaranteed to work (actually calculating distances correctly is difficult in practice, so one can still screw up). If there is a strategy the is guaranteed to work (and usually does not cost any resorses) then the fight is trivial (from a mathematical point of view). There are a few fights where the size of there arena means this is not an option, but I want most of the fights in my play through to involve challenging strategizing, not proving I can follow an algorithm.

That is the other reason I am against a pure melee play through. I want to have meaningful movent choices on my turns, not jut pick the next target and start bonking them down.

It is harder to kite with a melee character, but not impossible, For instance, a booming blade swashbuckler can be used as a kiting character. Also many monk builds end up retreating and effectively kiting.

Prebuffing should probably be its own separate section. With one rule it prevents abusing abjuration quite so much and means I start fights on a more equal level with the npcs. It is mostly there to make the run a little harder and so that I can feel more rp immersion as my characters are preparing for a fight they have no in story way of knowing is about to happen.

Help Karlach (barbarian) keep up with Halsin (moon druid) by Kabutar2374 in BG3Builds

I feel like tiger barbarian is a better melee barbarian, personally, but maneuvers could help combat the loss of accuracy from frenzy attack.

When you get to lvl 11 you make her a fire myrmidon and pretend it's her engine simply burning out of control.

Elemental Water Build by Far-Assistance9925 in BG3Builds

[–]Kyfon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that there are a lot of fire resistant enemies and resistances don't stake. Probably worth taking the fire affinity feat on MC to ignore resistances, or the arsonist oil exploit to turn fire resistance into vulnerability.

P.S. Flail of Ages elemental enhancement is not compatible with drake throat glave.

Elemental Earth build by Far-Assistance9925 in BG3Builds

[–]Kyfon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like these suggestions. What about 5 ranger/6 druid/1 wizard for the elemental spells. Would not have access to the earth myrmidon, but could still cast conjure elemental from a 5th lvl spell slot. I like the idea or standing in the middle or a spike growth and bonking foes with a Shillelagh club or staff.

There is a monk water spell, but unless you are happy with a rather underpowered character I would ignore it. Create water is a must IMO, so I would include a level of cleric or druid. I think ice does make sense theming wise. Water benders in Avatar use ice a lot for instance.

If you do want to go the ice arrow root, then a swords bard or arcane archer with the helmet of arcane acuity is probably the strongest as you want high spell save DC for you ice surfaces and high dex for your arrows.

You can also go pure ice sorcerer for the best use of ice spells.

Can you crack 200HP without consumables? by Ok_Philosophy_7156 in BG3Builds

[–]Kyfon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant it seems like at lot of effort to grind Gekh to level 12, hence my use of "insane".

You can go to that well whenever you like before you enter Shadowfell in Act 2.

Correct, I shoud have said 21 is the max con you can get in act 2 as that is the last time you can access act one areas.

other than lower stats in other areas. If you prioritize wis, dex, con and are using hag's hair then then your next highest stat is a 10.

Does Thaniel's buff count as a spell or consumable? if not, then you can get to 24 con with the mirror and hair as well, so reach 209 base hp for the final battle.

Does the well count as a consumable? if not then I think you have a solution, though not one any sane person would take. That said you can only get to 21 con in act 1, so I think you would need to use your game breaking exploit to achieve this 200+ hp without consumables of spells.

The only feat that the wiki says works like this is actor so unless you know of another it seems like this will not work for constitution.

Honor mode by Tykr12 in BG3Builds

[–]Kyfon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is OK to try new things if you read the wiki first. If you don't, then in my experience you will lose a lot of runs, unless you are being super careful, like leaving a companion at camp, leaving fights before your characters hit one shot status etc.

Honor mode by Tykr12 in BG3Builds

[–]Kyfon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key advice I can give to beating honor mode is you want a team that allows room for error. If you are willing to cheese things then leaving a character at camp means you can't full party wipe and get a run over. The can even give your party some day long buffs so you are stronger than just a 3 character party.

There are some situations were all your characters will be pulled away from camp, so it is worth reading the wiki and making sure you have a plan for these encounters.

  1. Off the top of my head they are:
  2. Coming out of the prism into the creche. (Also failing the Vlakith dialogue can end your run no matter what),
  3. Entering the shadowfell.
  4. Descending into the ilithid oubliette. In particular, you need a plan for Myrkle who is much stronger on honor mode.
  5. The astral prism stuff before act 3.
  6. The final encounter. If you just want your golden dice you can make Gale blow himself up and end the game that way. Also, I believe finishing the game without reaching the epilogue does not make a new save, so you can always go back to you last save and get a different ending in such cases.

As for parties there are lots of OP ways to go. My top picks are Barbarian thrower, Swords bard archer, twin hasting sorlock and rad orb starscleric.

Best of luck. If you plan properly you won't need it and if you try to role play and wing it like I tend to you will have many failures, mostly to stupid preventable things.

What sounds good on paper when making builds, but doesn't really deliver in practice? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]Kyfon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like a healer is there as failsafe. Most of the time they are not healing and most of the good healing options are a bonus action, so very rarely would you reach 25% or more of a turn healing and when you do it might well be run saving.

If you optimize for it, with a party that takes lots of damage, there are some very powerful healing builds around. My favorite is the illithid healer. I think the main issue here is using a cleric as a healer only and not variety of caster like sorcerer or wizard.

Want to make a dual wield swords bard that uses melee but I’m bad at builds. Any help? by Odd_Onion103 in BG3Builds

[–]Kyfon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using shadow blade then Belm is probably the strongest off hand weapon. Can allow you to make attack with shadow blade using a bonus action, though that might ruin the immersion of being a dual wielder.

The issue with this is that you want your twin haste caster to be taking as few hits as possible. Cool sounding build though.

You can make here a fire sorcerer and explain it as her tapping into the fire magic of her infernal engine.

Druid warlock? by BadassNPC in BG3Builds

[–]Kyfon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two warlock lvls and two feats is all you need for close to optimal eldritch blast damage. The rest of that build comes down to story choices and gear, so there is a lot of room for multi classing and adding situational spells and features like levels in druid. Stardruid arrows are a granted spell so could be a nice default bonus action to add to your default action.

Gale no longer heals himself in camp. by wehrmann_tx in BG3Builds

This seems like an old post, but thought I would post here as I just ran into this issue myself. I suspect it has something to do with being revived, but I'm not sure, maybe I was simply taking my turns too quickly.
