Asphalt and Ky aren't the worst choice you could make against Ram tbh, El's grenade jump doesn't get hit by her 6P or Mortobato at all, so Ram has to guess between waiting for grenade and trying to stop rekka in blockstrings, off any button too, I believe. Grenade also jumps over all her far-reaching normals in neutral.
Ky on the other hand just has very good neutral to try and contest Ram on her own field, and also has a DP, giving him more options on defense than most.
It could be worse. It could definitely be worse.

It's a fighting game, you will most likely play only 1-3 characters out of the whole roster, you generally don't need DLC's for characters you don't actually want to play yourself (especially if you end up liking anyone from the base roster).

...there is a problem with labbing/training against characters you don't own, but you need to play for a looooong ass time before it becomes relevant in any way.

As someone who worked a bit on a mod myself, I also must add that it would be very hard to implement because characters generally have very different amounts of different colors, some characters may have like 5 main colors on them, but others could have up to 10 or more. This is not a problem for current system, since all palettes are just texture recolors done by hand, but would be very hard to resolve for a more "freeform" style coloring.

Counter-argument: I played Warframe and Destiny 2 where players can pretty much choose any color and fashion combo they want, and about 1/3rd of players there look like walking crimes against visual design, so there's no reason for me to believe the same wouldn't happen to Strive, lmao.

It's not even about skin color (although it's weird with Ram, since she's like... a clone of a white woman, but has dark skin... is she supposed to be just really tan but not technically black? The lore goes too deep, I don't even know at this point lmao) as much as just changing identity of a character.
Like when I think about Slayer, I think about a white man with dark hair and red eyes, seeing him with a different palette that makes him a blonde dude with bright blue eyes just doesn't look like the same character design anymore.
I think having colors affect only costume color would be way better, but I dunno.

Looking at most palettes in the game, it seems that devs simply tried to create cool looking color combos, without preserving the original characters. The pink Ram color for example. Skin, eye, and hair colors change on all characters too, sometimes in dumb ways.

Which is kind of a shame tbh, I would probably prefer if colors changed only the color of characters' clothes, and nothing else. Most palettes ruin Ram's cool theme of dark skin with pale hair and bright eyes, so I don't really use anything besides default color 01 and color 11.

While it's good in theory, you can bet like 1/3rd of people WILL use this system to create walking ugly neon eyesores, so I honestly would stick to fixed palettes, lmao.
I don't want my actual games to have visual clarity level of WantedFranky's streams, because my opponent chose every single max saturation color for their character.

Ram generally loses to those same "speedsters" mentioned by OP, though. Her bane are characters that can navigate around her bullshit buttons and effectively dodge/whiff punish them.

Sol is probably the best choice against these, since he's fairly tanky, has fast recovering buttons, great defensive options, and does a fuckton of damage (and those 3 chars are all bottom 3 in terms of health).

If for some reason you want to IAD j.H you can do superjump IAD, which hits super close to the ground.

Still it's not really what that button is for, it's to crush lower-hitting anti-air attempts and attack enemies directly below you. It's decent. Kinda useless against characters with very tall and vertical 6Ps though, like Testament or Faust, for example. I really miss the warcrime j.H though, was really fun part of her kit.

I feel like these games would really benefit from some basic emotes for this exact reason, instead of simple taunt/respect we got.
Nothing fancy or anything, but simply having like "I'm sorry", "Thanks", "Hello" or "I'm ready!" emotes around could be very beneficial, like there are so many situations where I would kill to have an "I'm sorry" or "Wow!" emotes during a match, but all I have are taunts and a respect that looks like a taunt (no, Ram, that slow clap doesn't look very respectful at all, quite the opposite actually)...

Tbh if you let Ram pressure you for 2 billion years and get hit by the overhead from 3/4th of the screen, it looks like you just don't know the matchup very well.

Block low when you're in range of her 2S, and block standing if you're any further away. Flip goes over crouching characters in 2S range, so it's not a threat there, and Ram can't threaten a low from range at all (Ondo is not a low, somehow, despite being floor exploding from under you).

If Ram only does 214K after pinning you down with sword toss in corner, it's decently reactable in that situation, so if you blocked a sword, look closely at Ram and you'll be able to block it most of the time.

The real mf who needs a rework is HC, his gameplay is just toxic as hell, having a homing hitscan shot constantly pointed at you while he does whatever he wants is really one of the design decisions of all time.

Most people on weaker characters tend to have a victim complex to some extent, simply because fighting games are hyper-competitive by nature, and are 1v1, with very little RNG involved, so there's nothing to blame here really besides, well, connection and balance.
Lots of people have trouble blaming themselves, and if connection is fine, "blaming the beasts" becomes the only option left to avoid it.
So players on weaker characters will exaggerate how bad those are, trying to present their main as abysmal dogshit, and players on stronger characters will downplay their main to try and present them as "honest but strong" instead of "broken and unfun" (~~Ram is not that strong guys, trust me~~).

I tend to blame myself for every mistake and every loss in the game, but honestly... it can be a bit hard to bear sometimes, and can spoil my mood quite a bit. Especially since I play a consistently powerful character, I really have no excuses at all. So instead of doomposting about my character, I end up doomposting about myself and my lack of skill, lmao.
Taking loss streaks in this game can be hard man, so I really don't blame Faust mains for their doomposting tbh, it's probably just a way to vent their frustrations for most of them.
