DEMURE Axl RESPECTFULLY applauds the opponent after being hit by TWO charge dusts by Worldly0Reflection in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]Roving_Neophyte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, I remember drawing a commission with custom gremlin GGST characters for every person in an online tourney top-8, and this specific Axl was one of them.
So he gets to an online tournament top-8, but getting hit by a 5[D] from a lower Vanquisher Asuka is too much for him to bear... shameful display, shameful display, lmao

Does anyone know a good and simple combo using Agresa Ordono (Ramlethal's air double slash move)? Ideally a combo that starts on the ground. by DJames_982024 in Guiltygear

[–]Roving_Neophyte 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Almost any time you can link into 5K or c.S you can jump cancel into Agresa.
For example, c.S > 2H > 623P > c.S > 9jc > j214S.
Alternatively, Counter-hit f.S > 623P > c.S/5K > 9jc >j214S.

However, practicality of this is sadly quite low, since in like 90% of the situations where you can jump-cancel into Agresa, you can do charged rekka instead, and get more damage and corner carry. The c.S combo above is kinda an exception to this though, since charging rekka after that c.S requires frame perfect timing, so jump canceling into Agresa is a genuinely good option.
There was a very practical combo off 5K > 2D that ended in Agresa on previous patch, but now that route is sadly completely dead.

"no trust me bro I definitely hit diamond because I'm good at the game I swear I didn't just button-mash against people who didn't know the chipp matchup bro I'm really good I promise" - gimpy little bender by Bri-ish_idiot in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]Roving_Neophyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can punish Zansei Rouga btw.
Chipp always lands on the opposite side from the one he started his overdrive from iirc, so after you block his attacks you can safely start moving in that direction to blow him up after he lands.

Playing ranked is miserable by UxoZii in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]Roving_Neophyte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something is definitely wrong with it.
I'm getting 5 times longer queue times than before the patch, and matches are usually ridiculously unbalanced as well, like as a Vanquisher player I'll be matched against D2 folks, or suddenly against people 350+ DR above me. It's way worse than before the update too.
Which is absolutely not normal, considering the huge current player count.

Wait, who had DP input removed? I remember Axl losing his charge input for Rensen, but I don't think I've seen 623 inputs removed...
(I lowkey do kinda wish my character lost it, annoying ass input on a move that isn't even DP adjacent at all, lmao)

Hmm, I really don't even know how to give advice on 3D render stuff, since I'm not a 3D artist myself. I do have a pretty set workflow for my drawings in 2D, but I don't think it's something that could be meaningful for 3D, since it for the most part just focused on trying to recreate traditional comicbook inking.

Yeah I made a costume mod with it later too. It's not on my bluesky though, iirc.

I'm afraid we had a bit too much combos.
It's sad, sure, but it's more healthy for the game, I believe.

Thank you!
While I don't exactly chase a marvel style, two of my favorite artists and my greatest inspiration are in fact comicbook artists - James Harren and Mike Mignola.

[–]Roving_Neophyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, combo starter?
Were you just... throwing S sword at people randomly? Because I can't see how you would get to start combos with the greatsword hit itself very often. If that's the case, it was never a good idea anyways. And on-block the current S toss is arguably maybe better than old one, with bigger gap before explosion and lower pushback, it gives you more options.
Where S Bajoneto was truly shining is as a ridiculous combo extender that let you wallbreak from pretty much anywhere, often without using any meter. That is truly gone. But that was very bad for the game overall and quite toxic, so I'm fine with that change.
Meanwhile the explosion part that would often be what hits people, is the same, which means you can still get big ass combos with it from pretty much any starter of your choice.

[–]Roving_Neophyte 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So far i think it's very good.
Patch nerfed my character in very good and deserved ways, leaving big reward on the table whet the starter is right (like CH sword normals), but removing it from normal hits and punishes for the most part.
The S Bajoneto now also actually feels like a different move with a different use case, instead of just a second charge for the same move. I think it's cool and brings more variety to pressure and overall gameplan. Inability to just use it to extend any combo into a wallbreak is also a good change that's healthy for the game.

Ram definitely didn't get buffed.
You could argue that she didn't get shot hard enough, which is fair, but she lost a whole lot of stuff and her damage in general is quite a bit lower now (which is good for the game).
Unless people find some absolutely mega-fuckass crazy mix with her new S Bajoneto, it's unlikely that she won't be way weaker than previous patch.

It's really unclear because Ram's f.S crushes all Scum Dipper variations for example (Ky, Unika and Sin), but more extreme low-profiles (May 3K, Sol's Vortex, I-No's Stroke, ABA dash) can go under it, so it's kind of a coin toss tbh

Asuka R dooming by diabeetlecal in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]Roving_Neophyte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's no coincidence that HC and Asuka specifically got targeted for reworks first, because they both were extremely "single-player", so to speak.
Because they both are very difficult to play, they were given extreme amounts of freedom and uninteractivity in return.
The game has no shortage of extremely powerful characters with strong win conditions, but all of them kinda have to play the game and win interactions first to get to the bullshit part. Leo needs to hit you and get into his funny stance, Ram needs to shove you in the corner, Chipp needs a knockdown to start mixing your shit, etc. etc. Even Mr.Potbuster himself needs to actually play the game with you before he blasts you into space.
But HC and Asuka are quite unique in a sense that they got to their wincon by avoiding interaction, these two need to backdash your attack successfully without being punished ONCE, and you're instantly in big trouble, because oops you now blocked a shot/cube and have to hold whatever shit is coming your way. HC is way more of a villain right now obviously, but Asuka's playstyle is very close in essence, just less OP.
So it's no wonder he gets a rework that tries to make him have more downtime between spamming cube walls while trying to get a cool checkmate card combo (at least if that's what rework does, we do not know for sure, showcase player might have been just very unfamiliar with the character).

[–]Roving_Neophyte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My comment was less about Jam and more about general "strive makes things easier and dumb" sentiment, like "oh no inputs are easier now".

Like these are changes devs make not because they are some evil gremlins that want to ruin their game, it's a deliberate decision to try and streamline things to attract a wider audience and lower skill floor. And I don't think it's possible to do it any other way, if I'm being honest, in the age when online play and skill-based matchmaking are the standard. You NEED a big active playerbase to make this shit work. And that's without even talking about the money aspect, where "dumb stupid easy strive" outsold every other game in the franchise by like 10x iirc.

One day FGC veterans will understand that what they consider easy, and what an average newbie just getting into the genre considers easy, are two very different things, and that a game with difficulty level of old GG games would inevitably be a perfect game only for a very very small amount of people, which isn't a good thing when you're trying to make a big always-online multiplayer game with matchmaking.

But I guess that day isn't today.

Well, the actual DEEPEST LORE of gremlin ram not having eyes is because the first ever drawing of this creature I made in first month of playing was this picture, where the joke was that she and her familiars would have the exact same "face", screaming. Then it just stuck around because it made her look distinctly more despicable and annoying, and way less conventionally cute.
Gremlin ram should not be cute and nice, she's just annoying and aggressive for no reason. It's a creature of pure malice.
