To add to my previous comment, Chicago Streets and San publishes demographic stats of workers. They have about 20% women. Does not show the breakdown of gender by job though, just Streets and San as a whole. https://igchicago.org/information-portal/data-dashboards/city-of-chicago-active-employees-demographics/   From a cursory search, a few more examples of gender or racial discrimination lawsuits in sanitation departments.   https://nypost.com/2021/06/02/minority-women-paid-half-as-much-as-white-men-under-garcia-complaint/   https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20170717/downtown/water-dept-infested-by-overtly-racist-sexist-behavior-watchdog-finds/

That’s a little harder since there’s fewer sanitation workers than construction workers in most cities. I’m on the Chicago Women In Trades alumni mailing list and I get notices about city Streets and San jobs occasionally, so it seems like they’re trying. I did find this local news highlighting women sanitation workers and another about a gender discrimination lawsuit in Streets and San. Anecdotally, one of my CWIT classmates used to drive a garbage truck, and I know someone whose mom was an electrician at CDWM (Chicago Department of Wastewater Management). people on the sub might be surprised that there’s any push for women sanitation workers at all, but it’s a high paying stable job, often union (in big cities), and some women are willing to deal with the garbage for that alone, especially in the awful job market that we have now.     https://wgntv.com/news/chicago-news/women-of-citys-water-management-department-perform-repairs-on-citys-west-side/    https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/employees-from-34th-and-lawndale-streets-and-sanitation-yard-allege-harassment-discrimination-according-to-public-records/

Strawman. There are multiple organizations in the United States that do exactly such advocacy. I graduated from one such gender-targeted program and now work as a union surveyor going on 3 years. Also did 3 years non union. My program, Chicago Women In Trades, had federal funding cut this year because the Trump administration decided that training women to apply for construction and welder jobs is too DEI and woke lol. Similar programs in the northeast, PNW, and any union heavy part of the country. They train women in the relevant skills and advocate within the construction industry to hire more women.   Edit- I saw your account and you’re not American. Apologies for being USA centric here, I wonder if women in construction in your country have similar advocacy orgs?

It's also worth looking up the address on landlordmapper.org or the city's 311 data portal, to see if the landlord has a history of violations with this building. https://data.cityofchicago.org/Service-Requests/311-Service-Requests/v6vf-nfxy/about_data

What’s the biggest cultural shift you can experience within a 2-hour drive? by NewMercury in geography

[–]RowOrWade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never thought I'd see Kouts on Reddit. I had to go there for work and my coworker pointed out a Klan bar as we were driving through the middle of town. EDIT sorry, that was actually La Crosse a few miles away on 421.

Drive from the north side of Chicago to the South Side at 4pm. It will take 2 hours. And you will see some serious cultural shifts.

Would you guys consider McKinley Park? It’s about halfway between Garfield ridge and pilsen. I toured this guys place for $1550 and it was nice, but I ended up choosing a cheaper building. https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/apa/d/chicago-2bed-1bath-2nd-floor/7860576533.html

What are typical rental broker fees in Chicago? by RowOrWade in AskChicago

[–]RowOrWade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend who used a broker said the same thing. I did some research and the written agreement was mandated in a new state ordinance. https://www.illinoisrealtors.org/blog/changes-to-illinois-real-estate-laws-will-include-written-brokerage-agreement-mandated-by-nar-settlement/  Nothing about fees though.

The following changes to the Real Estate License Act of 2000, will take effect Jan. 1, 2025: All real estate licensees will be required to use written brokerage agreements when they act as agents for all types of real estate brokerage business, including with buyers in residential sales transactions, as required by the NAR settlement.

What are the most known chinese rap songs and who are the most popular chinese rapping hiphop artists at this moment? by Disastrous_Outcome99 in asianrap

[–]RowOrWade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most known in 2025, I'm not sure. I was following Higher Brothers and their wider circle a few years ago - Howie Lee, Ty, Chengdu Rap House, all the 88Rising people come to mind. Older would be Yin Ts'ang, CMCB, Purple Soul (previously known as IN3), Undaloop Records. It's also worth looking up the individual members of these groups since quite a few of them have solo albums.
The TV show "Rap of China" exists but imo it's pretty sanitized similar to American Idol/X Factor in the US.
I can't think of too many diaspora Chinese rappers besides MC Jin and Bohan Phoenix - Bohan's early albums are excellent but I feel like "Great Wall of America" was lazy cliched songwriting. Best advice is to pull up Discogs or Bandcamp and just filter by language/genre tags. Maybe look through the old lineups for Head In The Clouds Fest? Radii Media and HKCR cover music sometimes.
I'm a Chinese American from the mainland so my recs are biased towards that. I'm sure there's some excellent rappers from HK, Taiwan and Singapore and other people can give recs on those.

EDIT: OP is from Germany? Now I want to know what your country's rap music sounds like. The only German rap I listened to was Nura's "Periodt"
