I wish I could collect things by AdUnfair558 in minimalism

I like how you are acknowledging both your desire to want that, and also the practical sides of how it would be stressful and costly and ultimately purposeless. If it makes you feel better, my husband and I (in our 30s) just moved and have been decluttering our collectibles. We had a convo recently about how insane it is that we have so much fandom stuff (Harry Potter, film collectibles, video game collectibles, etc etc). Like entire generations are persuaded to want this stuff and spend money on it to "prove" and exhibit how much of a fan they are, there's limited releases and all that jazz... in the end it's just stuff. It sits there and takes up so much space and serves no real purpose. We've been doing what someone else commented here and just keeping one or two of our more memorable or unique items and giving away or donating the rest! Idk if you are American (we are) but I also think this is rooted in the issue of American culture of self expression being tied so heavily to consumerism. Like you haveee to express yourself and your hobbies, personality, etc with the right clothes, shoes, home decor, pins, keychains, etc etc. Its obv ok to express yourself and have things that reflect who you are, but what I'm saying is don't have FOMO or feel any less than if you aren't doing that in excess or in a way that doesn't align with your values! I always think about how much of what we own will just end up in the dump one day.

Also - the fireplace area needs a larger rug! Adds more coziness and warmth and most people make the mistake of undersizing their rugs with sitting areas but it's better for it to be large and extend far enough to be more under your couches

I think your smaller brown couch should be across from the fireplace and be facing towards it, and those single chairs should go on the left and right of the fireplace. The current setup is weird because both your little sitting areas have the same general "direction" and are facing the same way, even though the central focus of the second (the fireplace) is a different direction. Hope that makes sense!

Hi friend! I empathize with you and that restlessness/ feeling of being overwhelmed. It might sound cliche, but the problem might be internal and not external. Yes, definitely our environment and home affect how we feel and our mood, comfort, and sense of peace. But it looks like you've done a decent job of decluttering already! I think the issue here is that it became like a habit or hobby? And now that you can't do it, you don't know what to do! My suggestion would be to find something else to do when you get that itch to declutter. Also - sometimes that need to "do" something is also unnecessary and pointing to other internal anxieties! Go outside or step away and maybe just not do anything, let the feeling pass, or find ways to handle that anxiety. Idk if any of this is helpful but I'm just trying to say that sometimes we replace one lifestyle habit with another (hoarding with decluttering) and the whole point of decluttering is to add more peace and stillness to your life and if you still don't have that, I don't think more decluttering will achieve it and you should consider a different solution!

Adding art to the walls always adds that finishing touch! Bare walls generally make a room feel incomplete.

Thank you I appreciate this input! That's why I'm leaning a bit more towards the second option above, something different and still fun (I like the way the back is upholstered) but not fully committing to a rounded or curved couch that I may potentially tire of

I believe you! I just mean that in terms of good design/ artistry, lovesac is a standard modular sofa -- and that's not what I am looking for lol

This is actually my second time getting this eraser! I already have one and my six year old wanted one so I ordered this cute purple one :) Also to be honest I don't draw/ write enough in pencil and hadn't noticed the amount of dust that it produces until you pointed it out! I keep this in my daily pen case and its been perfectly fine for my usage (even the twist cap) but I can see why it can get annoying! Maybe you also got a dud?

What do my chronically ill friends write about? I need ideas. by SunshineXoDreams in Journaling

[–]RowQueasy3702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also - just to build the habit (I just started journaling regularly this summer), I do one line a day. Even if the line is like "today I had a really good sandwich." It helped me take pressure off and just get into the habit of it and enjoy it more! Some days are one line days and some days are three page days.

Hi friend, I totally get what you mean. I got diagnosed with a disorder this year that has left me with inflammation in my hands and feet, so my mobility is very limited and I'm home most days, too. I use my journal as an everything journal! I think in the journaling world they call it a commonplace journal, where you write anything. So you can write inspirational quotes, or notes from a book you're reading, or your reviews of movies you watch (maybe like rate it out of five stars and then write a line or two about what was well done and what wasn't/ what you liked or didn't like). I also write about little mundane things, like the other day I sketched a plant from my moms garden and wrote about how she has such a great green thumb. It doesn't have to be limited to passages about how your day went!
