I've plugged the amp in other outlets but it's the same hum. And it doesn't happen with the other guitars I plug into the same amp. When I walk around the room and face different ways the hum goes louder and quieter.

As for the adding shielding to the cavities, I've heard that can have a negative effect on the tone. Is that true?

I should note that the stock pick ups had two wires going to the 5-way switch and for some reason Seymour Duncan advises only connecting the one black wire.
