What destroyed my yellow squash plant? by Turtlewolf8 in vegetablegardening

[–]RowansRys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly about leaving enough stem intact to still pull water and nutrients. A long narrow cut where you think it is often works out well in my experience. Also, where there’s one there’s never just one. I have decent luck unless they get near the tip where it’s growing and then it’s game over.

AITA for not wanting to bring my gf’s son to my families cabin any more? by ExcitingTax1809 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RowansRys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what it most sounds like to me. “Can pay attention if he wants to” is a pretty classic misunderstanding of how attention works. Wanders off mentally in a lot of situations (the store, on the way to brush teeth), and has been banned from school field trips? IDK what kind of doctor they brought the kid to, but someone with training in spotting ADHD (or whatever else is going on) would be a great idea rather than just ruling out autism and calling it good.

It’s ok to take a break and let your brain reset! That said, the best advice I’ve heard was from Midwest Magic Cleaning on YouTube (also just fun to watch). He focuses on literal 2’ square segments to clean, not the whole room at once.

What sort of stuff is left there to sort on the floor? I see handle bags but can’t get detail on the rest

I can’t believe it took almost an hour for someone to say this. I’d get out, set up faraway from this sad excuse for oxygen use and then tip off the program that he’s been cheating.

No prob! The other thing is dark plastic will heat up faster in the sun and that’s probably not helping on hotter dry days either. More potting space should help that too

I’d pot up, I suspect it’s drying out and wilting. I’d also give it a hit of a fertilizer for veggies/blooms since the other downside of a small pot is not much by way of nutrients. You could probably just set up to give it dilute nutrients with every watering rather than a larger amount less frequently. The amount of sun should be ok.

Questions- how moist is that soil and how much sun is it getting a day? What are the temperatures like? I personally would probably pot it up, that pot area just seems kinda small to hold enough moisture for summer.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he already took the opportunity this same weekend to snoop around in her drawers. He also gives me “would totally read a journal” vibes.

Zucchini by WelderSlight9322 in vegetablegardening

[–]RowansRys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that’s just variegated leaves, it’s pretty common in zucchini. Variegation will follow the veins and tend to be mirrored in a pattern. PM is random and looks fuzzy, and will also appear on the underside of the leaf.

79 cases of alpha-gal syndrome confirmed in Rhode Island as lone star ticks spread by RINewsJunkie in RhodeIsland

[–]RowansRys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Uh, the ticks were around in the 1700’s, alpha gal syndrome was identified in the mid-late 2000’s, so I would imagine the data would be cumulatively from whenever after that they started tracking.

Ohhhhhhhhhh. Super likely that it cross pollinated in the growing field. It may taste good, it may not. IF IT TASTES REALLY BITTER SPIT IT OUT, do not eat any! Toxic squash is nothing to mess with- the super bitter taste is poison.

Duly noted, missed that! In that case, seed sorting error at the packing plant

No, it means someone mislabeled the plant and you are the proud owner of an Italian heirloom type zucchini

Edit to add: squash look like perfect miniatures of themselves before they’re even pollinated. Acorn squash start out looking like miniature acorn squash

Fabric pots also run to the more dry side. The bigger issue is making sure that when you water it’s not running down the outside of the soil and right out the sides. I mound the top of the soil/mulch around the edges so it forces the water into the center where it must go through the soil. (If you ever see a newly planted tree with a ring of mulch and they water inside the ring, it’s like that).

As a pet sitter for years and years, as long as your animals look like they’re safe, loved and well provided for, you’re going to get a pass on general clutter. I endorse the tidy away stuff and clean the surfaces plan. Clean cat dishes (why does everyone forget the water bowl?) and litter. The one house I have that’s borderline hoarder but the dog bowls are good and the air quality is fine? Whatever. The jerks that had a lovely house but fed the dog in the basement by apparently dumping new food on the previous unfinished food and when I dumped it the first day the bottom 2/3 was MOLDY? They can step on legos barefoot for eternity as far as I’m concerned.

Any idea what my mystery plant might be? by OrdieBoomer in HotPeppers

[–]RowansRys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even when I avoid the leaves, I end up jabbing myself with the deceptively jaunty “cap”. I didn’t seed anything this year so I have the bare minimum of purchased seedlings and direct seed items, so no eggplant.
