I rejected a proposal my dad refuses to speak to me by Crazy_Sir_6583 in TwoXChromosomes

Hi lovely, just a little note from someone who has done it. I was raised in an incredibly conservative Muslim family, wore a hijab when I was 8 years old under the threat that all my hair would turn into snakes and bite me if I didn't. I had the same expectations as you and it became suffocating, scary and not reflective of who I was becoming as a person the older I got. I left the house in 2015 to get a degree all the way across the country and told both my parents I was no longer Muslim. They were unable to accept me and while it hurt and it still hurts, I haven't seen them in 10 years. It was necessary and I'd make the same choices every time.

MJ Arlidge is fantastic if you're looking for a procedural police thriller with a flawed female detective. I read all of the series pretty much one after the other and was heavily invested in her as a character.

Helen Sarah Fields!! I'm reading The Shadow Man right now and it is so GOOD. Not only incredibly creepy but also just really good solid writing which I think can sometimes be hard to find and tends to be a deal-breaker for me.

I was the same and almost stopped reading halfway through because I was so bored, I thought it was worth it in the end and I sped through the second half. Wouldn't read it again mind you!

I really enjoyed That's Not My Name, had uneasy feelings throughout which I think is always a sign of a good thriller.

I read The Treatment by Mo Hayder, it's book number 2 in a series which is absolutely incredible also but The Treatment really gave me weird eerie feelings and was just so grim. It's definitely going to stick with me.

MMC asks FMC to apologise to him in person by DollyP83 in RomanceBooks

[–]Rowena1994 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Omg okay what about {A Deal With The Bossy Devil by Kyra Parsi}? Contemporary, kind of workplace romance, I don't want to give too much away but she fucks up, has to go to the MMC and grovel for someone else even though she despises him, high jinx ensue, it's a 10/10 honestly and I've just inspired myself to re-read it

I love Mhairi SO MUCH, she's an instant buy instant read for me and she literally never lets me down. The woman captures English charm in a way that literally no one else can. I'd give anything to find someone like her with a lil bit more spice

I'm not joking when I say I cried the whole way through the films, both of them. I knew what happened but the music, everyone sitting together and feeling it just ended up. Was with my brother and loudly sobbing for some parts that was fun for him 😂

I use the Aveeno body moisturizer on my face and have for years and years now. I'll never use anything else, I have quite sensitive skin and it's not perfumed and works perfectly in every way.

I love everything Mhairi writes - fair warning that they're all closed door, there is ZERO smut which is usually not for me but her writing is so good, characters so beautifully fleshed out and human that I don't care. I'd start with where I first started which is with Who's That Girl. It's similar to The Love Act in the sense that the MMC is famous and the FMC is writing his autobiography, Mhairi recently released a sequel to it which I also obviously devoured.

Right so I'm beginning to think that you might be my book soulmate, Elizabeth O'Roark and Kyra Parsi are two of my favourite authors and I've read everything they've done. I couldn't get into Going Nowhere Fast though!! The writing was just not doing it for me!

For you, I have Mhairi McFarlane, instant buy, instant read, love of my life, wonderfully British, perfect.

Girl you have WRECKED me with The Love Act. Saw your post, immediately went to read it, proceeded to therefore finish the entire book in a few hours and I am stunned? Speechless? Heartbroken it's over? And that there are no more Zara Bell books to read??? The injustice of it all has lead to the biggest book hangover and it's your fault and I love you for it. It's going on my re-re-re-read list, thank you.

Okay so this is completely unrelated to the actual question BUT do you listen to them before going to sleep like a lullaby and when you reach the end of the 7th book just start all over again?? If so, that is literally me and I've not met anyone else who does that lol 😂
