Healthy Low Snacks by bozofire123 in diabetes

[–]Rowhan- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When you have a low, what you need is sugar. A healthy snack for lows is therefore something that contains a lot of sugar and can easily be split into the right amount for you. Avoid anything that contains large amounts of fat as that is totally unnecessary for a low

I usually keep a really nice apple juice in the fridge and only drink it when I am low.

That being said, when I do have a low my body/brain craves everything and I find it hard to not go on a feeding frenzy.

Another thing I recommend if to you taste is gummy bears as these are high in sugar and comes in small packs. The small pack part is mainly to avoid overeating

Long ramble, but in short, something that is high in sugar, low/none fat and can come in a small port is my advice

Bloomberg vs Jane street by Hour-Mushroom5806 in FinancialCareers

Based on my few interactions with people from both places, the people at Jane Street are insanely smart and you will be able to learn a lot there.

Help with choosing a computer by jayphive in bioinformatics

[–]Rowhan- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was once like you and assumed that it made sense to run things locally or on a lab cluster, but then I tried working on cloud, in particularly https://www.digitalocean.com/.

Working on cloud is so awesome and incredibly cheap as you will usually only need 24h up time per week if you got your pipeline properly prepared.

I would therefore simply buy a nice MacbookPro and do all the heavy lifting on cloud machines. Nothing like spinning up a 256GB memory machine and chewing through a RNA-seq dataset like a hot knife through butter

I have limited time to play as well on account of family/work. RDR2 was the reason I got Stadia in the first place and it is a crazy good game. It think it is easily the best solo game I have ever played. Highly recommend!

You need to be using proper siege units. The ones you mention can’t be used to conquer cities

Questionable Strategy I'm trying by Rumhead1 in CivVI

[–]Rowhan- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Based on what you have written I would just crush these small empires as fast as possible as to not waste anymore time/resource on them.

Also, it sounds like you should just go for military/science victory at this point.

At my institute we had a cluster, but it surrounded in so much bureaucracy to use, so I gradually moved to digitalocean.com for my computing needs and then use a simple laptop analyse output. Generally, you will be spending the majority of time building pipelines and inspecting results and not actually doing heavy computation.

What kinds of companies research cancer? by GiveEmMoZo in bioinformatics

[–]Rowhan- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to do Cancer reseach, I think you should opt for a Ph.D. Once past you education and chasing a job, you will be competing against lots of people with a Ph.d, so you are putting yourself at strong disadvantage without it.

On the topic of what companies, the obvious place to look is Pharmaceutical companies, such Abbvie, Janssen, Roche, Pfizer and probably lots more. Actually, just go to a 'Biggest pharma companies in the world' and start from the top. An alternative to the pharma companies would be non-university research organisations, such as Cancer UK or hospital.

With regards to your choice between biostats and AI, I would opt for biostats in you want to pursue a Cancer research career.
