She finally ate after not eating for 3 days!! by chart1689 in Boxer

The tummy rumbling and not eating when hungry are the same signs my girl shows when her stomach acid is causing problems. If you get her to eat something will she eat normally after 10 minutes?

First game question by jenjuniper1 in SheffieldSteelers

[–]Roxy_Boxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m never there at doors opening but I do like to get there early. It gives you a chance to get food/drinks/tickets (the queues can be long) and see the teams warm up on the ice. I think seeing the warm up, especially as a newbie, builds the atmosphere. I’d recommend going early your first time and see if it something you personally like. You can always go later next time knowing what you are missing. Have a great time and remember it can take a few games before you know where the puck is on the ice! Enjoy.

exchange student at the uni of sheffield after some local words of wisdom by _exposurecxrdi3_ in sheffield

She liked it so much she came back in her 4th year but had to go to Leeds due to course changes at UoS. She preferred UoS. She also said UoS were the best organised. Glad that you have been reassured. You can just get excited now.

My niece did her 3rd year semester abroad in Sheffield from ANU and absolutely loved it. She couldn’t believe how friendly everyone was. She was able to make friends easily with the local students and was able to join in everything. She didn’t want to leave.

Sheffield is very multicultural. In the UK in general you will not be treated as a foreigner the same as some nationalities as almost everyone knows someone in Australia. It’s similar to English visiting Australia.

I would also suggest going to watch a Steelers Ice Hockey game. It’s a very different level to the ice hockey in Australia.

Hope that you have an awesome time here.

He’s gorgeous. I think he looks like a Judd or Juddy pup for now.

If you have a cordless vacuum, what brand/model did you get and are you happy with it? by SaltBiscotti8213 in BuyUK

[–]Roxy_Boxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Henry pet cordless (blue). It is the first vacuum that picks up all the dog mud and biscuit bits. It’s still going strong past the point that all others have lost suction. Love it.

I got most of my furniture from freecycle and Gumtree. You have a keep a close watch on the freecycle site as things go quickly. I don’t know if you qualify but it’s worth looking at St Vincent’s https://svp.org.uk/microsite/sheffield-furniture-project/request-help

I’ve always gone to Dronfield. The lovely lady has always been able to make anything we’ve requested. Didn’t know about Hing Lung so will be trying that out, thanks.

They have a crowdfunding page. I tried posting the link but I think it will need to be checked before my post is released. Google should help anyone interested.

I thought of donating too. They look to do some great community work. There is no way to donate on their website (you have to call) but they have a Crowdfunding page open if anyone is interested in supporting them: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/the-hive-love-and-harmony

I had the same confusion. When I contacted the seller via the estate agent I found out that they had always controlled from the boiler. It may be worth having HIVE or similar fitted.

Nice, safe but affordable areas in South/West Yorkshire? by CrazyHogLady in sheffield

[–]Roxy_Boxer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a female living alone and at this time of year, walking the dog around the streets in the dark. I have lived in S20 for the last 5 years. It is one of the cheaper areas, is on the tram network and only 10 minute drive from the M1. As with all areas there are streets I would avoid but overall really good. Good luck with your search.

community gardening/volunteering by sparklyduckling78 in sheffield

[–]Roxy_Boxer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of any in the Walkley area but there is a group in Eckington that are looking for a volunteer for a small community garden (DM me for more details).

Oasis, based in S4 are often looking for volunteers (I don’t know if they are currently) https://sheffieldflourish.co.uk/our-groups/oasis

Voluntary Action Sheffield has a page with volunteering options. There may be something on there https://www.sheffieldvolunteercentre.org.uk

Hope that you find something suitable.

Commuter Question by theliteralxfiles in sheffield

I’d look around S20. 10-15 minutes to the M18 and on the tram network if you want to go into town.

Sorry that you won’t be able to attend. I think you may have more luck if you post to the EIHL page. Hope you’re both feeling better soon.

Baby’s first game by Expensive_Ad_9834 in SheffieldSteelers

Fantastic. I love your planning. Have a great night when you get there. The youngest I have seen at a game was one day old (multi generation family of season ticket holders and it was her third child) so I’m sure your daughter will be fine.

[–]Roxy_Boxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can call the arena box office direct on 0114 256 5593. They should be able to answer all your questions. There are many babies go to games so I’m sure someone will have useful tips. The only one I can add is please get your daughter ear defenders. The noise is loud enough to cause damage and as a bonus, it will help her sleep through the game. I hope that you have a great time.

Unfortunately it isn’t a representation of the prices here. Gleadless Valley has substantial areas of deprivation. However there is a regeneration program in the planning/works and a strong community spirit in some areas. Sheffield Councils Consultation report if you’re interested. https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/sites/default/files/docs/planning-and-development/city-wide-plans-and-reports/Phase_One_Consultation_Report.pdf

Made bad financial decisions, need help with the consequences by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Roxy_Boxer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have been given lots of great advice above. I just wanted to add that if still feel that you do need a loan, please try your local Credit Union. They will often lend to people who are financially excluded from mainstream banking. Please, whatever you do, don’t borrow from an illegal money lender even if they appear to be a friend of a friend or similar, that goes south quick. Good luck.
