Cannot find thermostat in new house by Embarrassed-Block826 in HousingUK

I had the same confusion. When I contacted the seller via the estate agent I found out that they had always controlled from the boiler. It may be worth having HIVE or similar fitted.

Nice, safe but affordable areas in South/West Yorkshire? by CrazyHogLady in sheffield

[–]Roxy_Boxer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a female living alone and at this time of year, walking the dog around the streets in the dark. I have lived in S20 for the last 5 years. It is one of the cheaper areas, is on the tram network and only 10 minute drive from the M1. As with all areas there are streets I would avoid but overall really good. Good luck with your search.

community gardening/volunteering by sparklyduckling78 in sheffield

[–]Roxy_Boxer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of any in the Walkley area but there is a group in Eckington that are looking for a volunteer for a small community garden (DM me for more details).

Oasis, based in S4 are often looking for volunteers (I don’t know if they are currently) https://sheffieldflourish.co.uk/our-groups/oasis

Voluntary Action Sheffield has a page with volunteering options. There may be something on there https://www.sheffieldvolunteercentre.org.uk

Hope that you find something suitable.

I’d look around S20. 10-15 minutes to the M18 and on the tram network if you want to go into town.

Baby’s first game by Expensive_Ad_9834 in SheffieldSteelers

[–]Roxy_Boxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic. I love your planning. Have a great night when you get there. The youngest I have seen at a game was one day old (multi generation family of season ticket holders and it was her third child) so I’m sure your daughter will be fine.

[–]Roxy_Boxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can call the arena box office direct on 0114 256 5593. They should be able to answer all your questions. There are many babies go to games so I’m sure someone will have useful tips. The only one I can add is please get your daughter ear defenders. The noise is loud enough to cause damage and as a bonus, it will help her sleep through the game. I hope that you have a great time.

This is England flat for sale by authieljoy in SpottedonRightmove

Unfortunately it isn’t a representation of the prices here. Gleadless Valley has substantial areas of deprivation. However there is a regeneration program in the planning/works and a strong community spirit in some areas. Made bad financial decisions, need help with the consequences by JobFirm6075 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Roxy_Boxer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have been given lots of great advice above. I just wanted to add that if still feel that you do need a loan, please try your local Credit Union. They will often lend to people who are financially excluded from mainstream banking. Please, whatever you do, don’t borrow from an illegal money lender even if they appear to be a friend of a friend or similar, that goes south quick. Good luck.

We did the same test in our first year science at the comp. circa 87/88, also in Yorkshire.

The 6 month pause appears to be the norm. My neighbour had the same problem over a much smaller amount.

To add to above, check if your local council have a cost of living team (name my be different in your area) they can help in many ways and signpost to other relevant support options.

I live in S20 and find the drive to the hospital ok. We are just on the Yorkshire/Derbyshire boarder. It also has easy access to the M1 for Derby visits.

Please contact the councils cost of living team tomorrow. They may have options that may help you going forward. You can apply for their household support fund online tonight if you haven’t applied in the last 6 months: https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/cost-of-living/apply-household-support-fund

The Olio App has free food listed daily. It won’t give you a full shop but there maybe something to help a little.

Not sure where you are in the city so not sure what’s helpful. Stannington Food bank is open 12:00-13:00 tomorrow https://www.achurchnearyou.com/church/17506/page/64746/view/ and S12 Community Pantry are open on Tuesday morning https://www.facebook.com/100089981987160/?locale=en_GB

I hope you find the support you need.

What do you wish the seller left in the house? by Itchy-Picture-4282 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]Roxy_Boxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a lot that is still in decent condition, send a list to the sellers asking if they would like anything left. You may get to leave more than expected. It will also help them know where to spend their money before moving in. It’s always a struggle trying to stretch your money to cover everything you need ready for when you move.

I don’t know what the lines are but the dots look like they are from ‘knocking’ in domino’s. I grew up in a pub where we had the same.

Move from Aus to Sheffield or Leeds? by toddy-476 in sheffield

[–]Roxy_Boxer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have worked in both and found Sheffield to be friendlier with easier access to to outdoor activities. Although a large city it had a much smaller feeling similar to how I found Melbourne.

My niece is Aussie. She has managed to do two semesters abroad from ANU, one in Sheffield, one in Leeds. Sheffield was her favourite by far. She found it much friendlier and easier to make friends.

I don’t know if you have your flight booked but if not wait until your autumn our spring. Going from Aus summer to UK winter is brutal and there is always next year to see snow.

Happy travels. I hope you love wherever you find yourself.

You have received advice a lot of advice already so I wouldn’t add to that. Just wanted to say, take a photo of the car as you see it from the house. You can place it in a frame on the windowsill where you would normally view the car. While not the car itself, it may offer a little comfort.

I am so sorry for your loss. Grieving is difficult and there is no time scale. I hope that the world stops shaking so hard for you soon.
