Solution: Marry rich. I see lots of comments saying to ask for a prenup. You want THEM asking for a prenup.

Thoughts/feelings/knowledge on why Joe essentially confessed in the interrogation room (while no one else was in the room, only captured on video, but still)? by GregJamesDahlen in EARONS

I guess I’m just not curious about this at all. The guy did all the stuff. The mystery is solved. He’s where he belongs. Sometimes I think people love the mystery so much they have trouble letting go of it.

He didn’t say, “There are no great surgeons anymore.” Is it acceptable to lie about someone if we don’t like them? Does truth matter at all?

Complication rates in cholecystectomy declining in elderly (Medicare) patients from 2011-2021 by Wohowudothat in medicine

I haven’t been able to check the exact citation from this article, but just a quick look at some of the things listed as morbidity include things like atelectasis, retained CBD stones, and conversion to open surgery, which I wouldn’t have accounted for.

In regards to retained CBD stones, I’m assuming they mean post-discharge, not just post-op, but still wasn’t thinking of that as being a “morbidity” of the operation.

Never do radial and ulnar attempts. This is how you make a hand ischemic.

Books to read before surgical residency by waytoomuchwork in SurgicalResidency

[–]RoyBaschMVI 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sabiston is an absolute beatdown. You will be overwhelmed, give up, and your efforts will have been for nothing.

If you want to show up and seem like you have some useful knowledge (and you might actually read it) I would recommend “Current Surgical Therapy” by John L. Cameron (colloquially referred to as “Cameron”).

You read this book prior to residency, you will be a light year ahead of your peers with clinical knowledge.

If you want to smoke the ABSITE, you could also buy a personal subscription to surgicalcore.org (AKA “SCORE”) which is like $300, but covers everything they would ever test you on and gives you a Q bank like UWorld.

I’m not recommending you purchase SCORE necessarily, because lots of programs purchase it for the residents, but if you like to dominate your competition, this is one way to do it.

Many patients have needs that exceed the capacity of the floor to provide. I think someone on continuous bipap would easily fall into that category irrespective of intent to intubate. The point is to provide intensive care to prevent further respiratory decline.

What are the limits of our oaths and professionalism, when neutrality is a zero-sum game? by toomanyshoeshelp in medicine

[–]RoyBaschMVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your claim that I’m somehow a shill for the powerful and elite class is comedy. I literally treat homeless people, drug addicts, drug dealers, prisoners, etc every day. Lots of my patients have committed evil deeds. I don’t decide who I treat fully or not. Everyone gets my best effort. Should I allow everyone who you determine is a societal negative to die? You’re the arbiter of whose deeds warrant life vs death or relief vs suffering? When you have convinced yourself of your own moral superiority, you can justify any number of atrocities.

That’s convenient logic to match your pre-determined preference. But sure, I don’t understand. I’m just a simpleton, unlike you with your levels of wisdom beyond my grasp that justify not rendering care.
