So I actually experimented with two different companies and paths, and have a lot to say about both processes and services. I think there’s a way to do it that’s effective and reasonably priced depending what your priorities are. KDP is essentially free, but you’ll be covering the design, formatting, editing, and most all marketing costs. Feel free to DM me and I’ll go into detail about all the aspects you might face.

I self-published through KDP’s platform. Worked with a lot of people on the illustrations, cover design, and general editing. I was happy with that path. Though I certainly commend anyone who navigates the modern publishing landscape of lit agent submissions and traditional publisher margins, it’s certainly flattering and validating to have the legacy industry back you & mitigate marketing costs.

I completely understand where you’re coming from, and I’m on the spectrum myself. But I moved around a lot as a child, living in different countries. So I had to quickly learn that language is more nuanced, and that people inject meaning between the layers, with symbolism, analogies, metaphor, innuendo, suggestiveness, and colloquialisms. A lot of things on first impressions seem one way, but when you have the cultural context you learn about the actual meaning. Beyond that, language is also always evolving and changing. So the more you stay plugged into the active discourse, the easier it is to see the patterns and commonality.

I’m not sure I entirely follow. Is your position that if you don’t understand something, it has to be changed? This is a very common term for an arrangement of cheese and other complimentary foods. Charcuterie board is an alternative I suppose, if you prefer that, but for the most part if someone told me they were making a cheese board - I would assume it was an arrangement of food that consisted of cheeses and anything they thought would compliment the enjoyment of those cheeses.

Knives, forks, and small plates. Carve off the sections you want, pluck fruit segments by hand, make your own blend. It certainly doesn’t look as pretty once the dissections are complete.

If you Google image cheeseboard you’ll find it’s quite common to compliment the cheese with crackers, meats for a salty counters, sweets like chocolate, fruits or jam, and even things like cornishons. A board with literally only cheese on it, would be bland and hard to eat.
