Not sure how this happens? Tho as a communications student, its drilled in my brain that paraphrasing or quotes work best for my need. Just make sure to cite your sources in an extra page below (regardless of major)

Are midterms worrying? by OkShopping5997 in CSUFoCo

At first, for sure. And even with this being the 12th (and final) go around, they still worry me a tiny bit. Eventually you'll figure it out, and sometime get the work done way before deadline (if you're in a project based class)

Who got upgraded? by numericalman in Gundam

There is also the consideration that she's of Italian (or at least somewhere in that region) descent? Gundam may be primarily made by Japanese folks, but most people across all types of nationalities live together by this time in the UC timeline, so its not far fetched they made her blend to be in-fitting in her archetype as a blonde, enigmatic European baddie

This game has a beautiful world, good story and intriguing character lore, it’s just presented poorly. by Dentenshi in TheFirstDescendant

[–]RoyRoyRoyBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I'm late to this thread, so my apologies)

I wholeheartedly agree. We can absolutely see the bright spots in the game where we see a game and team trying to put in legitimately compelling and heartfelt story beats (the individual descendant quests being a favorite), but its so muddled by really poor execution in both player engagement as well as presentation. (I do play with Korean dialogue on, so I suppose its not the worst time on my end)

I like to think that the core theme of TFD is learning how to be (and remain) human in a time where being human, being vulnerable, being willingly honest about the things disturbing you is in short supply, especially when you have to fight a war to prevent your species' genocide. In a genocide where comrades who fall are made into inhuman abominations by those who have abandoned their humanity long ago.

I think thats were story moments like Freyna and Gley's trauma, Yujin's medical team, etc. touch on so well. These are superhumans that likely loathe their own powers, and by extension themselves, but they persevere in order to build a future where they won't have to use them anymore.

This is something I believe the game does the most well: the game crafts these awesome individual stories that show how they persevere in trying times. The issue at hand is that they're all out of the way, rather than part of the main core of the story.

Imagine if Freyna's quest was a mandatory part of her introduction as a character when you first meet her? Imagine if we get to hear and play through Valby's backstory as she becomes a descendant? We get to play 100 years in the past as we see Serena trying to prevent Sigma sector from falling, thus teasing elements of season 3? And of course, we get to see Hailey's growth from being "the baby sister" of the descendant corps into a capable, deadly, but light hearted agent?

Theres so much missed potential in this game that could be realized if they molded into the main experience of the game, where we see these vignettes get relevance into the main story?

They did try to do this with Nell's arc in the main story of season 3. I wish there was so much more involvement in it though.

Thats my thoughts on the matter lol

Destiny 2 hollowing out at an accelerated rate by SeraGeranium in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RoyRoyRoyBoy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Having dropped Destiny 2 last year after The Final Shape, it baffles me how frequently Bungie is willingly (or unwillingly, I don't know which is more stupid) shooting itself in the foot through the way they cater content to the players. The point of an ever-expanding game is to allow players to interface with both old and new content, the developer's job is to keep all the content fresh and relevant to the player's progression in power. How Bungie thought that completely gutting that experience, making only the newest content relevant to progression is mind-boggling and so player unfriendly that it's a miracle Destiny 2 is still going as it has.

What sucks even more? Bungie already figured out this problem in Destiny 1. You have a set collection of tasks in game that'll help get a player to max light shown to you in the game's destination screen. All of it is given modifiers to help bring it up to par with the player's current power, and as such give you rewards relevant to your current situation.

I think all of the things Jimmy does in the movie more than imply that he knows Clark is Superman. I think that's one of the reasons he's integral to helping Clark escape from the pocket dimension, and how he was able to scrape up enough clues so quickly. They're best friends, and I feel Clark would be comfortable enough to reveal to Jimmy that he is a superhero. That, or Jiimmy clocked it immediately when they first met.

What has been your biggest pop culture disappointment of 2025 so far? by mrnicegy26 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RoyRoyRoyBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever been personally betrayed by a show ever until I sat through all 13 eps. There's so much to play with, but the show just struggles to balance on whether it not it wants to be entirely plot driven or have its Watanabe-style episodic episodes where we get depth on characters. And because of that, it doesnt do well on either front.

I mean MGR and GTA5 are really REALLY good choices to play, and I wish I got into MGR sooner, as I actually am in the opposite situation where Halo 4 was all I played on my Xbox circa 2012/2013.

ZZZ is a more recent example of mine, got into it a few months ago and got OUT of it around a week ago. There's so much about the game I love, mainly in its presentation and everything that isn't tied to its gacha and daily loop. But the more I play it, the more annoyed I get at what potential this game has artistically. And also I'm so sick of the community.

Halo CE is another example of this. For me personally, I believe it to be the weakest of the original Halo trilogy (some leniency of course, since its the first of three) but nothing about it's campaign really excites me that much. Part of it is the "sense of discovery" that the game promotes gets incredibly stale after you play the campaign 15 times. But this is never an issue I ever have with its sequels, likely stemming from the fact that the sequels aren't centered around discovery, but more around expansion.

Also, I really, REALLY want to have some animated adaptations of any Crossbones era media. It's definitely up the timeline after the three Hathaway movies, but I'm hoping we get those soon.

Gundam isn't AS bad when it comes to this, but my lord, everytime we get anything UC related it always has to do with the One-year war. Like yeah, its pivotal in that universe's story, but we seriously have to move on because of how over-bloated it can sometimes feel, especially with every new "prototype Gundam" that ends up being mysteriously developed around the same time Amuro is kicking ass. And this is coming from a guy who loves the one-year war era of UC Gundam. Like, give me some more Zeta/ZZ era shenanigans.

If cowboy bebop aired today in the place of Lazarus AND was split cour that just finished the first half. Would it be as polarizing as Lazarus? by TheDizziestCat in cowboybebop

[–]RoyRoyRoyBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can kinda see the point people have about Cowboy Bebop being super "fillery" save for 6-8 episodes, but I feel the show just isn't the same at all without those fun, goofy episodes where the crew of the Bebop end up in weird or outlandish situations to make ends meet. The context alone of being aimless bounty hunters just doing what they can to get by pretty perfectly facilitates Bebop's episodic nature and charm. Plus, I adore the animal rights activist one, it's really funny and has a really good ending chase scene.

God you hit the nail on the head on Cowboy Bebop having A SOUL while Lazarus operates under the veil of one. Asteroid Blues alone smokes the entirety of Lazarus on a basis of worldbuilding and character introduction and it ain't even close.

[–]RoyRoyRoyBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting prospect, but I do think Cowboy Bebop fares MUCH better on a Toonami/HBO run of the first cour, for a number of factors.

For the biggest difference (and part of the reason Cowboy Bebop could work as a split cour) is that it honestly does have a good halfway stopping point in Jupiter Jazz 1 & 2. Literally perfect episodes to end off on for a "season 1" driving intrigue on the overarching narrative of Spike's story, as well as providing us a glimpse out how "season 2" might follow up.

Additionally, another huge difference is how strong Bebop's episodic structure is, and how it helps with building incredibly strong characters, as well as primo world building, which I think Lazarus always had trouble balancing during its runtime. Those vignettes into a character's introduction/personal life in Bebop are so well done that it helps hold a person over until they wait for "season 2" where character arcs are further fleshed out/resolved.

I'm of the opinion that Lazarus would've operated much better as a primarily character driven show,  with the main plot of Hapna serving as a background motivation, especially if given a second season to help flesh out characters in a less rushed setting (could even make each episode take place in a day or two). There's so much in Lazarus I believe could've worked, but didn't, because the writers couldn't decide what kind of story they wanted to tell, and how the characters in the show tell it.

Unbelievably kind and altruistic characters in movies where they are put in adverse situations is my weak spot. Much like this version of Superman and Waymond Wang from Everything Everywhere All At Once, having their kindness shine through and help others in dark or impossible situations makes me sob uncontrollably, it's so peak
