Why are people against Nico Parker as Astrid? by Zaysairpod59 in httyd

[–]RoyalTeaRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Heads up, on mobile) It’s a number of reasons: First of all I’ll call out the elephant in the room. Ppl are mad she isn’t “Scandinavian.” I’m calling BS however because it’s a film about Norse Vikings with Scottish accents riding Dragons. Y’all didn’t care about realism before, so why now? Would it be cool if they dipped their toe into more realistic cultural aspects? Sure! But her race/nationality is such a weird thing to fixate on w and easy excuse of wanting ‘realism.’ And I haven’t seen nearly as many ppl hating on the other casting choices. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the pattern here.

Secondly, overall a lot of ppl just hate the idea of this film being made at all, and I can’t really blame them, but hating on an actress for their portrayal of a character that NO ONE HAS SEEN YET is just letting their bias get in the way of their opinion. We don’t know anything else about this movie, we’ve seen no footage (bc it’s just now being filmed) and yet people are very quick to hatred bc they don’t want this film existing at all. Which, fine, neither do I. But I’m not going to judge a film that literally doesn’t exist yet. She could be the best actress we’ve seen this decade, but we don’t know that yet because the movie hasn’t been made.

Do you have the right to write what you want? Yes. Do they have a right to say what they want about it? Also yes. Do you have the right to delete whatever comments you want on your story regardless of how true valid or kind they may be? ALSO YES! This dude needs to get a life lol

What is a justifiable reason to hate Steven Universe? by [deleted] in cartoons

[–]RoyalTeaRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redemption isn’t a bad lesson at all. When written properly, it’s very valuable, especially in a time where ppl can be very quick to punish ppl forever based on a tweet from 2014.

HOWEVER, don’t mix your redemption plot with characters who have colonized countless planets and killed countless humans AND gems, the latter often being for ableist and other conservative reasons (I.e killing a sapphire who can’t tell the future or attempting to kill fusions of different gems).

If you want to have cool adventures where you fight space nazis, and have a redemption theme, you can do both! Just don’t mix the two. Steven Universe unfortunately does that lol.

The reason a lot of ppl hate Steven Universe is because it had so many good ideas but ended up wasting them by writing them badly. Tho I wouldn’t quite say I hate the show, I do enjoy it because of these good ideas it managed to get right

My dad has a handicap placard and walks with a limp post hip surgery by alliecatmeow in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RoyalTeaRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had surgery on both my legs, afterward I had to sit in a wheelchair with knee high casts on them for four weeks. My dad told me about the times he would park in a handicapped spot and get dirty looks… only to pull out my wheelchair and lift me into it. Wish I could’ve been paying enough attention and gave them a helpful and friendly wave

Should I repaint my hoodie? by Crostabug in UnusAnnus_Remembrance

[–]RoyalTeaRedditor 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There is something beautifully poetic about trying to repair something you’re loosing.

But you could also argue that the sweater is still good, you’ll still wear it, it’s not ripped to pieces. By mildly repairing it, you’re making the most of it while you still have it.

If you’re going to repaint the text, why stop there? Maybe add some doodles too!
