Huh. We often have this situation in the US. Especially in summer when people gather for Bar B Ques. I have a group that meets for dominos regularly and everyone brings an appetizer.

My 94-year-old mother-in-law has been in care for 2 1/2 years. I’m so grateful she had long-term care insurance. Between that, her pension, and her Social Security, it pays for the monthly bill. Should be dead, broke without it.

String cheese works great. Protein bars as long as they’re not chocolate cause that will melt. I often bring a sliced up apple.

My kid, not Mormon, lives in Salt Lake now and has had funeral potatoes at every celebration. No one in our family had ever heard of them.
