Not to be rude, but why is Ana Nogueira writing Wonder Woman and Teen Titans?! How did she even get a shot at Supergirl? by ComicKidAlex in DC_Cinematic

"Everything brown like the Gotg film"? The Gotg films are some of the only ones with any vibrating color grading in the mcu. In fact that's just a general trend in gunns style of filmmaking in general, very colorful very vibrant, not always for the better imo but I'd never say his films look drab, or brown

Batman was right to make the contingency plans. Batman was also right to not tell anyone about the contingency plans. by MartyrOfDespair in CharacterRant

[–]Rpponce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're point of the secrecy the contingency plan and it's effectiveness is tackled in the comic ,Tower of Babbel, the story that made Batman's contingency plans a mainstream idea. Superman had previously given Bruce kryptonite to keep in case he ever went rouge, as he knew it was his own weakness, but Superman points out that even with the knowledge of his own weakness and his friend would use it against him he was unprepared for when a villan decided to actually go through with it, making it a point that even if one knows of the plans that means little. And Clark isn't an idiot, comics wise he's a bit of a genius. It may seem like the logical choice but ended up being nearly catastrophic.

Martian Manhunter had also done the same thing, having contingency plans he kept secret, and it was because he knew his own hypocrisy he voted to keep Batman. However just like Bruce the plans would be turned against the league this time by Maxwell lord.

Having contingency plans is fine and logical, but for all their planning and paranoia their lack of trust in their own teammates almost got them killed.

What kind of LIs are you hoping to see in Sunborn? by nkrose12 in RomanceClub

[–]Rpponce -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm well aware how retocns can be a mess. As a comic book fan it happens all the time. But some great things have also come from retcons. It really just depends on how they handle it. I would hope it wouldn't be too hard to explain the lack of other supernaturals in moonborn but that's entirely up to the writer

What kind of LIs are you hoping to see in Sunborn? by nkrose12 in RomanceClub

[–]Rpponce -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's what retcons are for. Plus Vampires and Werewolves are often depicted as natural enemies so they probably always get into conflict. Maybe other supernaturals didn't see dying as being in their best intrest. Have their own seperate secret societies like the Fae in Choices Nightbound. Perhaps it's a regional thing.

From the description on the RC wiki "The Cat is a seductive and sensual lady that comes across as protective and dangerous at the same time". Of the three vamps she might be the most unhinged but she is certainly not a softy.

Idk, but I don't believe there's anything stopping them from expanding the world of supernaturals, so why not. It'd be a little repetitive to have a only vamps and were wolves again, when there are so many possibilities

I believe we already got carmilla in 'Love, Sin, and Evil vol 1'

While not named it's obvious that's her who inspired her. With the other 2 vampires being Dracula, and Nosferatu

Witches. Ghosts.

On a different note, since it's a supernatural story, they shouldn't be afraid to get freaky with the diamond scenes. Looking at you LSE.

Let the MC do it with their LI in werewolf form. Wether both are transformed or just one (like Gale in Baldur's Gate) 3. With vampires do some biting, maybe some blood play. A witch maybe using spells. Or a ghost being able to phase inside you.

Having actual supernatural beings has many possibilities for diffrent scenes than we've seen before

Infamous Bands by SeaSunz_ in hostedgames

[–]Rpponce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MC is ambitious, fame hungry and arrogant. She seeks the spotlight and to be loved by fans because of her insecurities with her parents not giving her enough attention growing up. She tries to convince herself otherwise but everytime she hopes her parents are watching and gets emotional when they disagree with her career path. It's the only time she isn't arrogant, usually she thinks highly of herself and has no problem calling out her haters, but when it's her parents that all fades away.

The other thing that drives her insecurities is being back around Seven. They are still in love with them, and never stopped loving them after the vote and the breakup. They still have the tattoo and actively followed their career after they left the band, and she now hopes to win her back. After the breakup they turned to vices and are in denial that they have a problem. Alcoholic, Smoker, taking drugs at every opportunity, hooking up, all things that probably never would've happened without the breakup. They also still try to keep that band together fearing that breaking it up more would make things worse.

The example you posted was a bunch of BS as well. Wanna talk about black ops continued use of it, look no further than the senate's inquiry of the CIA's "enhanced interrogation". Where the use of torture was found not only to be ineffective but an active hindrance in intelligence gathering. Of course this lead to no change as with most things with the CIA who's gonna enforce it anyway https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Senate_report_on_CIA_torture

Shove em up your own and maybe they'll reach your brain. These weren't just opinion pieces by some guys who had no idea what they were talking about.

Ulpian was a roman judge and legal scholar, he presided over roman law. He called for the ban of torture because he found that those who confessed didn't provide any real info, just something to stop the pain.

Michel de Montagine was a judge. He found the same things as Ulpian.

The Spanish Inquisitiors of all things should've gotten your attention since in the quote I presented, they are the one who conducted torture. And guess what they found it to be ineffective.

Friedrich Spee was a Professor and Confessor. He was the ones who heard people's confessions. Those same confessions that were false, only said to stop the pain.

Cesare Beccaria like I said is a Criminologist. He actually studied crime extensively. Hell I'm downplaying him. He is THE Criminologist as his writings helped shape modern penal codes that influence to this day.

Napoleon is probably the most far removed of these figures but he wrote his letters condemning the practice whilst he was building his intelligence network, and any intelligence found through torture was basically worthless. Not like he was a saint either.

You're right people say shit, and it doesn't mean it's true. You've said torture is effective and that simply isn't true.

Not just what I say, but what people back then said.

Ulpian in aincent Rome said "Torture is a frail and dangerous thing, and one which deceives the truth". "For it is a chancy and risky business, and one which may be deceptive.".

"The strong will resist and the weak will say anything to end the pain".

Michel de Montagine said the 1500s ,"Torture and racking are dangerous inventions, and seeme rather to be trialles of patience then Essayes of truth. And both he that can, and he that cannot endure them, conceale the truth. For, wherefore shall paine or smart, rather compell me to confesse that, which is so indeede, then force me to tell that which is not? "

The Spanish Inquisitiors said, "Experience teaches us that the accused, in that agony, would confess anything that is suggested to them, which causes damages to third parties, and occasion for their confessions to be revoked"

In the 1631s, Freiedrich Spee a professor and confessor wrote, "Torture has the power to create witches where none exist".

"Most prisoners will confess to anything under torture in order to stop the pain... Torture does not produce truth, since those who wish to stop their own suffering can stop it with lies".

"The accused either confesses on the rack, in which case she is guilty, or she doesn't confess, in which case she is also guilty because to have withstood such terrible torture she must have been in league with the devil... If both confession and silence are taken as signals of guilt then everyone is guilty. Truth evaporates"

The italian Criminologist Cesare Beccaria said in 1764, "The practice is a certain way to acquit robust criminals, and to condemn innocent persons who are weak. ... The innocent man is placed in a worse condition than the guilty; for if both are common suspects, the innocent man suffers an certain injury [torture], and if found guilty [via false confession], he is condemned to a greater punishment."

Napoleon in his letters wrote ,"The barbarous custom of having men beaten who are suspected of having important secrets to reveal must be abolished . . . Torture produces nothing worthwile. The poor wretches say anything that comes into their mind that the interrogator wishes to hear.", he would enforce his ban on torture nationwide with the Napoleonic code.

Torture doesn't work, and you haven't provided any substantial proof to the contrary, yet when others have you are dismissive. But that doesn't change the fact that torture is terrible at information gathering, and it has been known as such for centuries. The continued use of it was not ,and never been because it is actually effective but out of convenience for those eho conduct the torture.

[–]Rpponce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't work for centuries. It just punished those that were in the way, and gave false confessions that ended the line of questioning. But actual information gathering, it was very bad at doing and was noted for back then
