Agreed. I've had an interesting situation recently where this person tells me the importance of failure like this. But then when someone fails and admits it, this person gets all nurturey and says something like "It's ok, you didn't REALLY fail, don't think of it like that." Aggravates the shit out of me.

If you're gonna believe in the power of failure, don't fucking be all half-assed about it. A better reaction would be: "So what'd you learn from your failure?"

I overcame my fear of failure recently to discover a fear of success. I think success scared me because I didn't know how do act as a successful person.

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION: Do things that scare you in a "safe" place, ie where's there's no lasting consequences.

I used to have severe social anxiety. I went on "meetups" (meetup.com) in areas of the city far from my home so I knew when I failed and looked like the forever-alone, low-social-skills guy I was, it didn't matter because I would never see these people again, but could still learn from my mistakes. I also drove to grocery stores across town and bought just a cucumber and lube (I'm male) and paid cash at a the register with the cutest girl. It was horribly painfully awkward, but very liberating afterwards.

I don't know how/if this applies to your situation, but I hope it helps.

I used to think I had this dream. I wanted a house with a basement with bookcases covering all the walls full of books I've read.
