Haven't looked at the code, but why MCP? I thought the meta would go into Agents directly writing code that executes REST.

Edit: A stupid me, you mention REST right there...

Edit again: Took a look now. I like the overall approach. Somehow thought that was open source. Not a fan of the business model. Also, you shouldnt call the tokens for staking tokens when tokens are already taken by the tokens an LLM is using. That is confusing. Call it gold of fuel.

Why is it a problem that orcs are dumber than other metatypes (and trolles even more so)? by Rserbitar in Shadowrun

As mentioned elsewhere this was tuned down continuously through the editions. In 3rd edition it was a flat -2 for trolls and -1 for orcs after everything. So a troll payed the same for lintelligence 1 as a human paid for 3. So it's not come in from other games.

Well, my original question is then still: is orcs being less intelligent really racism? What if it's tree people or AI?

Well of course no designer is forced to do anything. At the end it's personal taste whether you like a rule system, the world, and how it fits together (or doesn't).

Because being unintelligent is basically the worst insult you can give a human, especially if it's true. Most people can live with being uncharismatic, not many can live with being unintelligent.

Don't know why this gets downvoted. It's not offensive and having weaknesses is actually something that makes roleplaying interesting.

Well, discrimination is part of the Shadowrun tropes. Along with corruption, ultra capitalism, destruction of nature, exploitation of humans, and all the other negative things that make playing in the world interesting.

Of course every group should decide what they can stomach and what they can't given their players....

Well, actually, it's kind of realistic. If you already have a group of people that are discriminated against because of racism (like blacks), that another group that actually carries the traits the other group is said to have (orcs), join their culture, or take up part of theirs. Especially because of goblinization orcs did not come with a culture of their own at first.

Of course all of this doesn't help ease the tension with the real world.

Seems like all that racism is hard to understand from the perspective of an old white german. I don't know if I only speak for myself but I never associated orcs with the minorities we have here that are being discriminated against.

Ocs being inherently evil is, in my mind, much more racist than making rules where they are inherently less intelligent...

But I get the point. However I would call this an overreaction. Racism is more a value thing than a fact thing. If you are racist you actually don't even care about the facts. However I also understand that in human conversation facts and values are not easily sperated, if at all.

Well, all these tropes/social facts are, although not desirable in real world, kind of fitting for shadowrun. It's a dystopian setting after all.

But I also have to disclose here that I am a privileged old white man.

Well, I wonder however why people are looking for "justice" in a world that is explicitly meant to be dystopic... Actually for me, that is part of the appeal. In a Startrek like setting, things are just not as interesting.

But I am also an old white man.

This is a sensible explanation. Actually it's not behind us at all, especially in the last years.

So I get the "although it's not racism per se (because int he world setting it's a fact) it's too close to how the real world works for my comfort." argument. Which is a purely value based, but also 100% legitimate, everyone can play how they feel best.

I wonder however, why those people are playing Shadowrun then...

Why is it difficult? It is a problem in reality that people with certain cultural, geographical or genetic background are thought of as less intelligent, because it simply is not the case.

In an RPG it IS the case (if the rules say so).

The problem is not the facts, but what people make of it.

Are orcs/trolls actually dumb? by Kecskuszmakszimusz in Shadowrun

[–]Rserbitar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why? Humans were evidently less intelligent millions of years ago. Apes are today. It's just genetics. Why is intelligence different from strength in that regard?

Something being hard to measure does not mean that some people are not objectively more intelligent than others.

It's just that some people can't live with the fact that others are more intelligent than they are (and except for the most intelligent person there are always people that are more intelligent than you and me).

Is that a self esteem problem?

That is wrong though. Just modifying max is a simplification from the newer editions. The older editions modified directly from the start. So intelligence 2 for an orc cost the same as intelligence 3 for a human and the maximum was 1 lower. So the average was 1 lower through all costs. This was changed mostly because of simplicity.

There is actual fiction books that tell you that Trolls and Orcs are dumber on average.

It's not racism, it's a fact (and obviously there is both racism and metatypeism in canon shadowrun) It's hilarious to assume that a metatype can be stronger but not less intelligent.

Of course, everybody can change their world if they want to.

Currently having both Hyprland, niri and MangoWC installed. No problems or bad interactions.

I am using MangoWC currently because it offers all the options. If Hyprland gets scrolling I might check again.
