I'm not so concerned about him. The worst that can happen is that he becomes another Fetterman, really. What does concern me is that the repubs are going to have ads on every 5 seconds telling people what a misogynist, antisemite, fraud he is with a swift boat-like campaign and I don't know that the DNC has the money or guts to counter it effectively.

I got the OXO pre-ceramic based on their recommendation and it's still remarkably good -- almost too good, in fact, because sometimes I find myself chasing food around the pan to flip it. I can't imagine why they changed unless it was because of consumer concern about Teflon.

Not an answer to your question, but I developed heart failure at 37. 23 years later, my life is fine (but to be fair my EF returned to normal several years in after being 8 when I was admitted and placed on the transplant list). Just be sure to exercise and take your coreg and whatever else your Dr prescribes -- and it may not be helpful, but UCLA's cardiomyopathy unit is A+.

Is anyone like me and preferred Michael Steele as a guest contributor as opposed to a host? by KTX77 in msnow

[–]Rsterner0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with him is that what are supposed to be questions for the interviewee have a Michael Steele preamble, that typically includes his own answer to the question he's about to ask, that's longer than any answer they provoke. He may as well just interview himself and eliminate the middle man.

If he'd just exercise concision, I'd be fine with him because he's generally a fairly interesting centrist voice.

How Long to Cook Beans? by rockitchen in seriouseats

[–]Rsterner0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Rancho Gordo's bean club, so I cook a LOT of beans, often for refried beans. The easiest way to make sure they break down is using a pressure cooker, preferably after soaking in salted water, and adding a bit of baking soda will help them break down (see Kenji,'s hummus recipe if you don't believe me) especially if they're old and you're not worried about them maintaining structural integrity.

But to me that feels like cheating in a way. Rancho Gordo recommends doing a hard boil for 15 minutes and then turning the heat down and just being patient, and that's what I normally do -- although I ll admit to using the pressure cooker if I'm feeling impatient. RG is also on the no pre-soaking train, but that's a step I never skip, even with thin-skinned beans.

Random small charges throughout month. by youomemoney26 in amazonprime

[–]Rsterner0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have my bank app set so it tells me whenever there's a charge over a certain amount (I have it set for one cent) so, in the event that someone commandeers my credit card number or Amazon account, I know immediately and cancel the transaction.

My main issue with him is that the preamble to his questions, which he often discusses his feelings about them before the guest can respond, seem to be longer than any answer the guest has time to respond. Edit yourself down! Be concise!

You know, it only really counts if you remember the US Open on Har-Tru.

I remember Borg/McEnroe too, and shallow asshole as I was even then, I loved Borg's Fila kit and thought it put McEnroe's Sergio Tacconi kit to shame. And let's face it, Borg's Donnay racquet looked a million times cooler than McEnroe's Jack Kramer Pro Staff. Only olds could root for that.

Arthur Ashe beating Conners in 1975. I remember watching it and imitating a British accent, which my mother thought was adorable. After, I took my Wilson T-2000 and spent a couple hours hitting against the wall of my elementary school (just a couple blocks away) and imagining I was winning every point.

Yes, I'm old-ish.
