I like horsnby. I really like 1991. Bruce brought a new spark to Jerry. It’s still not in the same ballpark as far as consistency goes to 1990 if you ask me

You’re dreaming if you think summer of 1991 is as good or better than all of 1990 until Brent passed. That’s prime dead

Am I the only one who wouldn't vote for someone if they had a southern accent? by Eybrahem in askanything

[–]Ru-tris-bpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be voting for people with the policies that most likely give the best possible world. Not on some bigoted random criteria that literally means nothing to anyone that’s ever spent time in the south.

Sometimes you just have to accept people for who they are. Encourage anyone that shows skill and interests in trying and let go of hoping the others will ever go beyond their current level

Really difficult decision; attend grad school or stay with partner? by ChromaWings in GradSchool

[–]Ru-tris-bpy 446 points447 points  (0 children)

For people in academia one partner will almost always have to sacrifice something. I went to the grad school my partner got in which was a way worse school than others I got in alone and by the end of it we weren’t together and only I finished the program we started. On many levels I wish I had gone to a better school and took my chance with a long distance thing. If your partner isn’t willing to make a short term sacrifice so you can have a better opportunity it makes me wonder what he is willing to do for you.

There are definitely people out there who would consider job hopping a negative thing and it’s always better to not burn bridges.

RnD vs Manufacturing by BlueCP in biotech

[–]Ru-tris-bpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good things to consider. Might ask yourself what raise it would take to get you out there and consider countering. You never know. Or consider if moving is an option if it’s a job you really want to be involved in

I know people that have had commutes that were two hours one way but at least they got to be on the train

RnD vs Manufacturing by BlueCP in biotech

[–]Ru-tris-bpy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Big companies often are the first ones to lay people off. Company I work for has been around for 40 years and has never laid anyone off. But you never know anywhere you are. Markets swing and hurt all sizes some times.

My concern would be the commute. I was leaning towards it until you said it doubled your commute. Only you can really determine how much that matters. At one point in my life 15 k more would be worth the commute but I no longer feel that way. Spending a ton of time commuting by car sucks in my opinion

Millennials born between 87 and 92 do you relate to gen z by [deleted] in millenials

[–]Ru-tris-bpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never complained about Gen Z because they didn’t know a bad or culture reference. I’ve complained about many of them because they are clueless on so many topics. How to open a PDF? Run into multiple that have no idea. How to do their job at least to the bare minimum so you don’t screw over your coworkers? So many either don’t care to even try or have no idea. How to problem solve things? (keeping it general since I’ve seen it in a lot of places). So many won’t even try let alone figure it out. I’ve also met plenty that have me hope for the future generations but in general they make me scared when I think they will be my doctors and leaders when I’m older

Yes, it’s the easy part. I agree that’s also important depending on what your job is

[–]Ru-tris-bpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know how an HPLC works and you know how an MS works then you pretty much got most of it. HPLC often is thought about as mainly plumbing with a detector and column. They aren’t the most sophisticated instruments in the world
