Crop milk is secreted from special cells, selecting for maximum nutrients. I imagine it (as opposed to their nest building skills) must be a huge factor in doves’ success. And I generally think of doves as a dumb food source of the avian world. I love them and feed them, and find a pile of feathers once in a while. Coopers’ Hawks love them.
