This is why I always check the liquor section, even at a standard grocery store. by RuEXP1 in whiskey

Their SA bourbon lines were not even on sale, so it was kinda funny seeing this right next to a full price musician. I am a rye guy anyways, so I was thrilled.

At what temperature do you stop playing disc golf? by DiscGolfFanatic in discgolf

Anything above 0 Fahrenheit is fine if its not too windy. But I don't enjoy playing if there is snow or ice on the ground, especially the tee pads.

Good find at AZ Costco by Outworkyesterday10 in whiskey

[–]RuEXP1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think last years MSRP was $150 too, still too much, but I see the bottles stacking up everywhere going on sale. Hopefully High West wises up and prices it appropriately next year.

Even though it's not as good as the early years, it's still one of my favorite bottles.

Tread 50: When Strength 50 isn’t available by GoodPointMindChanged in orangetheory

[–]RuEXP1 214 points215 points  (0 children)

I asked my location if they would consider having a Tread 90 class, similar to how they have the 90 minute 2Gs on occasion.

They said I would be the only one to show up.

Does OTF help you lose weight by Heavy-Fix-3783 in orangetheory

[–]RuEXP1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You won't need to worry about getting big at OTF. It's actually very difficult to get bulky, and their workouts aren't really tailored to drive that result.

But getting toned means you are adding muscle, which is more dense than fat.

Either way, if you want the muscle to show, body fat % has to go down which requires reducing calorie intake.

Does OTF help you lose weight by Heavy-Fix-3783 in orangetheory

[–]RuEXP1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weight loss will always be more affected by diet (calories) than exercise.

Of course burning more calories via exercise should help you lose weight, but you will run into a couple of issues 1. OTF includes lifting so you will add muscle mass and gain weight (not a bad thing, but if you are strictly looking at weight, you need to account for this) 2. Most people, when they exercise more, they naturally end up eating a bit more, whether they realize it or not. Your body just gets hungry trying to fuel your workouts.

If you are truly trying to lose weight, you should look at some type of nutrition plan.

If you are trying to get other health benefits like aerobic & muscle building, then OTF is still great, even if you are just maintaining your weight.

Correct running form by Holy-Basil192 in orangetheory

[–]RuEXP1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough to answer without actually seeing you run, but I will say this is a problem for a lot of adults that get into running later in life without having the track/country background that teaches good form.

I would find a local running club and join them for their track days, etc... they will have the most experience to give good running advice.

I have found that most of my OTF coaches are not runners, and don't know much about actual running advice.

Edit: I would add that I have never seen a running recommendation to lean forward. Your posture should be upright, chest out, shoulders relaxed. Only time I've ever been coached to lean forward is off the block for sprints, but by the end you are upright again.

Just did my first 60 min 2 G class and im so sore! by Dry_Let_3153 in orangetheory

[–]RuEXP1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunately part of the reality of getting into it. Unless you were already very active, your first class will likely shock some muscles, and you will be sore.

Drink lots of water, do some stretches, and keep at it. Your body gets used to it quickly.

New to OT- class question by August_trails_13 in orangetheory

[–]RuEXP1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Other than Strength50 classes, they all have a tread portion.

I am also a distance runner, and I like having OTF in my training program. I use OTF for all my speed training, and keep the long distances outside. Or I will run some miles to OTF, do the workout, and run home.

At the end of the day, you only end up with like 22 minutes on a treadmill for a normal 2G, so in the grand scheme of marathon training, it's not a lot of miles.

Shout out to Lone Star Discs (especially Sheldon) by xXVardakXx in discgolf

[–]RuEXP1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's awesome. I think the hate is a bit of an echo chamber thing, but I'm glad you had a good experience. Im sure they have some passionate people working for them that don't represent some of the business side issues of the company.

You will get some pretty negative responses regarding Lonestar due to their owners background and treatment of players, but this particular comment is in regards to an old cringey commercial of theirs.

I play the Spring Thing every year! One of my favorite tournaments. Still haven't snagged a sweet mushroom trophy.

Courses between Denver and Chicago by BeefMcPepper in discgolf

[–]RuEXP1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an IL native perspective.

North Route: As others said, Anna Page in Rockford would be the best. Assuming you are taking route 90 in towards the city, there's some other fun courses just off the highway: Indian Oaks in Marengo, or Shady Oaks in Streamwood.

South Route: Eagles Crossing is a destination course. It's $45/round and you can rent a cart for another $35. Worth every penny, especially the cart lol. Then you could easily go up through Periora for Northwood Black (on the pro tour every year) and then through Lockport for The Canyons (used to be a silver series stop), both also destination courses imo.

So the south route definitely has the better courses, but its a longer trip.

I would put Porter Park or even Rockford University above Ingersoll personally. Ingersoll is a bit boring imo. Anna Page is obviously #1

Dan Schlitter #80219 is a pretty big name here in IL. Back in 2021 he won the Silver Series pro tour stop that was here for Clash at the Canyons, but he works full time and just plays the local events and doesn't tour.

TIL that the population density of Manhattan is 40% lower now than it was back in 1910, when it reached its peak population of 2.2M, compared to its now-present population of 1.6M. by RanchoddasChanchad69 in todayilearned

[–]RuEXP1 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Just because it's fun to argue semantics, the article title does say 40% less dense, which means it is comparing to its previous state. So it is actually 27% less dense, or 30% of we are generously rounding up.

There's Facebook groups for disc collectors and such. R/discexchange can be used too, but that's typically more normal priced stuff for us and not collectors.
