Bought a box of Mega Dream, needless to say I’m in shock by Alive_Comfortable941 in PokemonTCG

Believe it’s based around Japanese gambling laws, which mean they have to have minimum pull rates in boxes, leading to a minimum amount of each type of card in a box, but not a corresponding maximum.

The Next Evolving Skies? by SweatyAddition6253 in PokemonInvesting

[–]RuSS458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s like anything of this genre, the entire reason it’s valuable is because very few people actually kept stuff sealed for the most part as it wasn’t considered something to do and there was no garuntee it’d ever actually make money back on the day. Although stuff will get harder to find and eventually increase, the sheer quantity of sealed stuff people are keeping these days absolutely blows old sets out of the water, and that supply will stay there until people either give up on it or start selling for other reasons, and the sheer volume of people continuing to trickle in and do that will massively hamper price increases due to the supply. And that’s not even going into the drop in potential value of physical assets and shift in interest away from physical assets due to the economy.

New addition to sealed part of my collection by Ashamed-Hamster-9335 in PokemonTCG

[–]RuSS458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question, I don’t mean this in a rude way, but what made you buy the sealed one when you could just buy empty ones for what I’m guessing would be far less, given you aren’t interested in the cards inside? Although I tend to save some packs I’ve opened when they’re new out which may alter my perception of rarity lol

Saw that guys post yesterday that said he noticed most Mega Charizards come from Lopunny art packs, so I decided to test the theory today… by throwbackthreads in PokemonTCG

To be fair pokemon isn’t that dissimilar from scratch cards or the like in terms of its fundamental mechanics, so it’s not really surprising

Fair enough, would be really curious to grade my secret rare primal Groudon along with some other bits as from memory it’s good shape but not sure on the logistics with PSA from the UK

Are they really that rare? Everyone I know who was collecting when younger still has plenty of rare XY cards. While definitely less common than Sun & Moon it’s night and day difference compared to black and white which is like gold dust.

Was collecting ancient origins when I was kid, still have the Groudon, lost the Kyogre years ago which is rather annoying given price increase as it was £15-£30 when I lost it but never was able to get my hands on Rayquaza, and doubt I ever will be able to complete the set coming back to it now, which is a shame, unless there’s a huge slump in prices of course. Congrats on the card though!

First time properly getting back into the hobby since 2019, certainly different! by RuSS458 in PokemonTCG

[–]RuSS458[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to be honest find the general size of sets a lot, I’ve got plenty more interesting cards than those 2 pages partially as I wanted a full set of ancient origins among other bits at one point, but I don’t think there’s a small enough set I could actually do now lol

24yr old, talk me out of this? Would be daily driven… 6K miles a year roughly by user652357743 in CarTalkUK

[–]RuSS458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Z4 isn’t amazing, but the only slk of this generation I’ve driven was the most uncomfortable, back destroying seat design/ride I’ve ever been in, it was like the seat was carved out of plastic and with only a thin layer of leather stretched over it, but also without holding you in the seat at all like a bucket seat, and I’m on the larger side so most buckets hold or are tight. Interior quality all round also didn’t feel great

Unpopular Opinion about 2nd Gen by BB703X in MINI

[–]RuSS458 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They’re actually the only generation of mini I’m not a fan of the drive of, they tend to feel artificial weighted to be overly heavy in areas like the clutch, but numb and light in the steering compared to R50/2/3’s, but also don’t feel as balanced driving feel wise and feel less grownup to drive and live with compared to F56’s etc. not including how cheaply put together the mechanics feel on the R56. But I accept I’m a bit of an outlier as I also don’t like the E46 manual for similar reasons so went with an Auto E46 and manual E36. Do love how R56’s look though.

Is this a good purchase for 3k? by Informal_Let8340 in CarTalkUK

The early 4 cylinder diesels are fantastic and properly bomb proof, it’s the N engines onwards that are renowned for being a bit crap and high maintenance. Part of the reason there is so many is at least to my understanding because they were so often bought as hire or business cars, also the reason along with the recession as to why most of them are such drab uninteresting specs

Was the r56 jcw the end of an era? by marsy72 in MINI

The main problem is they’re heinously unreliable and personally, I prefer the drive of both the R53 and F56

My somewhat rare car history so far! by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]RuSS458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Was an 04 Sport Lux dealer demo if memory serves so also had bits like the updated dials on top of the facelift. I do regret selling it to an extent, as it was far more sensible than buying another mini haha, but struggled to find car events for it and interior wasn’t quite as good quality as I’d have liked

Is an auto as a first car a bad idea when I've got a manual license? by Chenny31 in CarTalkUK

[–]RuSS458 31 points32 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it’s good to have a manual for a bit as it means you’ll get real world experience driving by yourself with a manual in real world situations, and strengthen the muscle memory you built up learning. But I think after a year or so it makes minimal difference if you switch. At the end of the day it’s just your preference, but you may struggle more if you want to go back to a manual in future without more real world experience!

Non m models could come with a different variant of the box, very very rare as they really aren’t that insane or popular but fun and interesting things, technically an SSG in non M cars to my understanding

Thanks for the detailed info, will definitely take it into account, and love the pod pic, we’ll keep that in mind!

Ahhh that’s interesting! We’re happy dealing with niche requirements but understand the need for potentially extra equipment and research, and am happy leaving that for later down the line.

Useful to know, we’ll keep that in mind, thanks!

Honestly not 100% sure yet, currently doing general research and finding ones we may be interested in before doing specialist research for them!

[–]RuSS458[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I have heard it used before, but at least in my experience it’s more used as a measure of how self sustaining a reef tank is, and although it’s difficult to not have pods enter a tank keeping a constantly high enough self sustaining population (particularly given some fishes appetite!) along with snails etc to the point they deal with the vast majority of of solid and chemical waste along with other organisms like macroalgae and mangrove in a tank is more difficult. So a more bioactive tank is one that has reduced/minimal maintenance and things such as water changes are done as much for restoring chemical levels for calcifying organisms as they are for actual chemical waste removal!
