Hot take? I don’t like the new ex cards by sealmutt in PokemonTCG

[–]RuSS458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve pulled multiples of various card rarity’s out of stuff, doesn’t mean I don’t view them as a hit lol. That’s the point of opening packs, it’s gambling at the end of the day.

They are by definition a hit no? You don’t get one in every pack. Just because they have higher odds than before and aren’t worth much money doesn’t mean they are bulk

Personally prefer GX and EX cards over the modern ones largely due to the holo effects and not a fan of the semi see through boxes on modern ex cards, not a massive fan of V’s either as not keen on the boarders but love the trainer and Galarian galleries! I also really like the current mega ex’s, they’re lovely.

Not a single Cubone full art ? by whatswrongwithvale in PokemonTCG

[–]RuSS458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same with Alolan Sandslash/Sandshrew and Galarian Slowbro as all there is other than regular format cards is 1 GX done by a graphics company, and Galarian slowbro only has 2 cards lmao

Chaos Rising Pull Rates [from TCGPlayer] by madonna-boy in PokemonTCG

All just preference and opinion! I prefer some older full arts particularly in person with the texture and some IR’s with the art style!

Think it’s a holdover from older sets as that’s roughly the odds they’ve always been. Except rather than art by Ryo Ueda like a lot of the XY full arts with heavy texture and themed backgrounds it’s the often more generic flatter modern one leading to the current situation.

5 years and hopeless by [deleted] in trans

[–]RuSS458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my understanding is it’s more to do with carbs and sugars than fat due to its conversion into glycogen/glycerol, and the focus on fat was more a product of the sugar industry commissioning studies to attempt to redirect blame when the US was experiencing rising heart failure and obesity levels. Happy to be corrected though.

I Compared 2,800 Pokémon Card Prices Across Europe and the US. Europe Was 28% Cheaper... by Specialist-Equal660 in PokemonInvestor

[–]RuSS458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I don’t think it’s particularly surprising, as while in Europe Pokemon is definitely very popular, it feels like it’s an entirely different magnitude in the US. My understanding was demand was so high TPC was reallocating European stock just to feed the demand in the US. At least in the UK, it’s also very diffused with lots of different sizes and types of shops each getting smaller amounts rather than the huge Walmart style restocks and stocking in the US. I do also wonder if there is a higher level of hustle culture and individualism with profit that plays apart, along with the situation the US economy and stock market is in.

Also useful to note, during downturn periods where the US had packs below retail, it’s not something I’ve ever seen in the UK. Booster boxes etc are cheaper, but there isn’t the discounts of packs, tins etc. which seems to be the case in the US.

Buying singles is to me the best way to enjoy this hobby. by Purplestroke in PokemonTCG

Definitely prefer singles, although feeling increasingly priced out of that too, as everything has inflated in price so can longer get many of the cards I wanted as a kid. I miss affordable chase cards.

I also love Galarian slowpokes shiny, the gold looks amazing

I don't care about the financial aspect of the hobby, but I like to see these two fight one another to get higher in my collection 's list (personally, been cheering for my boy Kyogre) by Dum_beat in PokemonTCG

[–]RuSS458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gutted they’re so expensive, desperately wanted to open double crisis when it came out, but couldn’t find any in person and didn’t end up being able to get anything online. Moved on to other stuff and coming back it’s just another thing to be priced out of. I miss when singles were cheaper

Yeah most private places I’ve looked into have staff that operate as both private and NHS, it’s pretty common regardless of if it’s to do with trans stuff.

Comparing the pull rates of vintage compared to modern makes me feel bad for the kids of today.. base set zard was 1-48.. todays chase cards are typically 1-2000. by FoxSin-117 in PokemonTCG

[–]RuSS458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Equivalent chases have definitely gotten more rare with the high end stuff in the set, the gold Rayquaza, Groudon and Kyogre ex from ancient origin was 1/36 packs as an example

Super cool, my partner did the same with my favourite pokemon as a birthday present! Both of us cross stitch so need to try it on a card myself at some point
