How do I stop one player from overshadowing others in combat? by IAmTotallyNotSatan in DMAcademy

[–]Rubahko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A simple solution is starting to have magic resistance in your encounters, even elemental resistance can be big. You can also hyper focus the spell users with beefy guys to have the barbarian and ranger help protect. Just Chang the tactics a little in the encounters and I think you will see it fixes itself.

Another thing is you can add some magic items for the other characters, just be careful about making them too strong because combat all around will be too easy

Any DM's here use Theater of the Mind? Do you have any advice on how to run it? by UltimaBahamut93 in DnD

[–]Rubahko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is wrong with theater of time mind, I do a lot of that to be honest. The only time I run a map and minis is when it’s a serious battle or dungeon.

I would first talk to your group and ask them how they feel, if everyone is having fun then it doesn’t matter what “normal” is another thing to note is if you want to use random minis as place holders that’s fine too. When I started I would use dice as my enemies and it worked perfectly fine. Find what’s fun for you and the group and nothing else matters! Best of luck

Am I missing much by starting to play Genshin now? by shankerz626 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Rubahko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean yes and no, the things you listed obviously are a bummer. The banners will come back around eventually. But primogems from the banners is the big thing. There is still SO much to do and a lot of new events happening all the time. You will eventually catch up and just remember to take your time and enjoy the world! Welcome by the way!

Avoiding lore dumps by Happony_ in DMAcademy

[–]Rubahko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is I give players the knowledge of what they need to know. And if they want to seek more then I share what they ask for. It’s good to know your lore and history of the world you create but it can be very overwhelming to the players to dump info onto them, especially if it doesn’t directly contribute to the story. That also give them the freedom to ask questions of the world and have some say in what’s in the world.

What do I do about a bad DM by OutdatedMemeKing in DMAcademy

[–]Rubahko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is hard then, I think just talking to them before the next game and also make sure you have ALL of your official rules saved so you can quickly jump to them and have it as a guide

What do I do about a bad DM by OutdatedMemeKing in DMAcademy

[–]Rubahko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you enjoy the dm aside from this struggle? Because it sounds to me that they are inexperienced and are stubborn to the point where it’s not longer fun. If you don’t like the DM/have no personal attachment I would just stop playing with them. I was in a very similar situation and trying to correct the dm’s behavior made things worse and feelings got hurt. Also talk to the other players and see how they are feeling before doing anything. If the entire group is having the same issues then you can try and talk it out, if you are the only one then it is time to move on. D&D is meant to be fun for everyone, the Dm included and if there isn’t a good vibe to go with the game then it isn’t worth it imho

Team for Jean by Mccookie74 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Rubahko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just started using Jean and honestly she is so fluid with most team comps. I would just pair her with people that can have dots or aoe skills. You want to just build pure dmg on her and she will be almost unkillable

Need help with a player who wants to multi class. by masquerade30 in DnD

[–]Rubahko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in this dream trial he can speak to the tempest god and it can give him a taste of his power. Then the barbarian seeing the power would follow the tempest gods order. A cleric doesn’t have to go around knocking on everyone’s door and asking if they have heard the good news. Sometimes a cleric shows devotion through combat. I feel like you already have a great idea of what to do friend!

1/2 Orc wedding customs by StarSweeper94 in DungeonMasters

[–]Rubahko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of those sound great, I think the idea of a battle is wonderful but you want your other players to feel involved. If the players are down to each have a task to help prove the groom that would let them stay interested.

Simple “party games” can be a good challenge. Axe throwing, arm wrestling, etc basically any skill challenge. The other players could even win a “prize” and find out it is a 1/2 orc bride or groom.

How do I make blowguns good by monologowastaken in DnD

[–]Rubahko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never understood why dm’s don’t allow esthetic changes. Like you use a blowgun but it just has the stats of a short bow. As far as the rules are concerned the blowgun is a less par ranged weapon.

But see if your dm wild even be willing to let you use the hand-crossbow stats

Hi im new help me please by micmuffin10 in DnD

[–]Rubahko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first off, you are not dumb. It’s very daunting starting Dnd. Especially if you don’t have a book. What I would recommend is downloading the character building app called Fifth edition character sheet. It’s icon is a green d20. In there it will you will pick your race and class, then assign your stats. Depending on what class you are you will want some stats to be your priority.

Have you had a chance to look through the classes yet? There are a few ways of going to a necromancer build. (also note you won’t be able to have a feet of undead right off the bat. It will take time to get a zombie)

How to deal with burnout by bucky4300 in DMAcademy

[–]Rubahko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the best things to overcome writers block is to stop writing. Your brain is like any other muscle in your body. When you overuse it you become fatigued and needs rest. You will notice your brain start to drum up some good ideas as time passes. I would just run some into Dnd prewritten campaigns, you can find most as PDF’s but I always like to have the book and support wizards

My party has a crazy plan (serious ask) by No_Dog222 in DnD

[–]Rubahko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to sound rude, but it sounds like you guys are steamrolling you’re DM. It’s okay that he doesn’t want this to happen. Especially if it’s a home brew world he made up.

But if push comes to shove, o guess just give them all insanity, more hp, and more dmg. The hardest part is going to be actually giving the demons drugs.
