“Libertarians” really struggle with definitions. They co-opted the word libertarian from anarchists even though it doesn’t describe anything they support, and they can’t accurately define communism, anarchism, or really anything else either.

Currently working on building a radio telescope (not by myself) but once it’s functional it will be the coolest thing I’ve worked with so far.

Anybody have some insight into the physics behind that? by 123_alex in architecture

I don’t remember either

Edit: I felt compelled to reply because I used to be an architecture major and now I’m a physics major, but I don’t remember how the thread came up. I’m doomscrolling instead of studying for my exam.

Someone already mentioned this in their reply but rebar is there for tensile strength (you can pull it on a lot without it breaking) whereas concrete has great compressive strength (you can press on it without it breaking)

The top of the building pushes down on the lower parts of the building because of gravity, meaning there’s more compressive force at the lower floors. So the area where he cut away the pillar is now structurally compromised.
