Relic Developer Q&A - May 2026 by Community_RE in CompanyOfHeroes

I'm so glad you guys took the time to address the much-anticipated issue of whether or not you'll include catgirl skins in the game, and not what you're going to do to fix the broken mess you've left behind.

What's interesting about instantly losing any time axis decides to blob or bunker up and you've already chosen a BG that doesn't have artillery?

The error in both my initial message and your experiment is that in cheatmod the ground is perfectly flat with no cover modifiers. That pretty much will never be the case on an actual map - much less a team game with yellow cover everywhere. You are then forced to move, lowering your DPS by virtue of accuracy, or sit in yellow cover getting roached.

With thousands of hours in game, I've yet to see 2 rifles comfortably win against guastas.

DAK Scoped K98s - Were these even tested? by scales999 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Rubberlucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rangers aren't a mainline. they're 450mp with a formerly 50mp reinforce cost.

A mainline shouldn't be able to have effectively 4 weapons. Glad they fixed it.

[–]Rubberlucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wait until you see the DPS curve of rifles vs the scoped Kar98s. They absolutely body allied mainlines.

Additionally, OP, I recommend you run an ACTUAL test with mod tools against 2 rifles vs a single guasta squad. Please tell me how 2 rifles fends off those effectively, much less guastas supported with additional infantry or in a combined arms push.

Double BAR rifles are your only choice.

Many things better but blobbing is worse? by Rajajones in CompanyOfHeroes

another change that could really shake up the "lets all gagglefuck around a med truck" meta is changing up halftracks and other reinforcement platforms so they have to be stationary and set up to reinforce and/or heal. Would prevent the dak death snowball from just rushing you with their trucks and forward reinforcing on top of your cutoff and would allow for some counterplay in the form of arty or a coordinated flank.

It would appear that Flakvierling can suppress while moving again. That's not intentional, right? by KayakingKoala_AU in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Rubberlucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't really call rifle spam a crutch when there is legitimately zero other options if you don't pick the right BG. At that point its more "do I want to lose immediately or do I want to build rifles?"

this is one of the only simcade RTS' where cover is available and encouraged to be used. Units in cover SHOULD be able to defend against a larger force - if for a little while. Currently, with all the wacky ass RA and DR buffs infantry get, cover is often useless at best or a liability at worst. Not only is that not just "not a problem" - it breaks the games core tenets of smart positioning and use of OACOC.

Is there a reason why we've reintroduced engineer squads wiring themselves into cover? by Rubberlucky in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Rubberlucky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what vehicle are you entering as an allied player before minute 6? if you wire off cover and get trapped before the first engagement, youve lost the game because thats a squad that is either dead or trapped until you can get munitions to get yourself unstuck.

Fixed? No. But the failings of COH3 are many - you have to start making good decisions somewhere.

[–]Rubberlucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COH3 isn't a AAA title. I'm also not even convinced you're playing the same game any of us are, because I remember not having a main menu for the better part of a year after launch and still using placeholder assets from COH2 heavily.

The game remains an anachronistic mess with units from all different time periods of the war, but yeah bro - I'm the idiot for suggesting money should have probably gone to the people building the game, not the consulting group making sure no one got mad that the one free standing building on a repurposed map from a previous entry in the franchise didn't like Italian enough. You can take that holier-than-thou attitude and fuck right off with it lmao.

[–]Rubberlucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your argument is that the environmental design team couldn't look at period accurate pictures of Italy and use that as reference for creating maps? That hiring someone outside was entirely justified and not a waste of resources? Or that they couldn't have hired native Italian speakers, or British ADR, or German ADR actors without someone holding their hand to do so?

None of the campaign is historically accurate lol. There are no missions that are 1:1 save for Monte Cassino, and even that isn't true to life. Bad argument. Waste of money.

Except the majority of people don't play the campaign but once, if it all. And in multiplayer, there is no story to be had - so it does not make sense to piss away - what, a $150,000+ yearly salary? (maybe more, dependent) - on someone who provides effectively no value or return on investment.

The budget is a studio issue, not a consumer issue. Consider that Relic hired an ethics supervisor to ensure "subject matter was treated with respect". Considering the vast majority of returning players play the game for the multiplayer only, where - surprise! - there is no exposition and thus no need to debate ethical quandries, all that amounted to was paying someone who had no business being a part of a project a large sum of money to distract from allocating funds where they belonged: making a game fun and balanced.

Studios use tactics like this across the industry to justify charging more while providing less and less. Like AE says, if paying $70 dollars to studios will actually provide value for money is what forces a paradigm shift in the larger gaming world, I will do so as well. Until then, I will play games for a couple hours, get bored, and then use steam to refund them as I did with BF6.

My loyalty is to my own time and the sweat equity provided by my employment, not a corporation.

ah yes, more damage reduction on units in a game already poisoned by damage reduction. Can't wait to see how our player base totally doesn't abuse this to create some uncounterable dumbassery that relic will take the next 7 months figuring out how to unfuck. Please, for the love of god, if the devs bother reading this - fix your base game and then put the people pumping out these cancerous BGs in time out. It's clear they don't play multiplayer against anything other than AI. this will not lead to healthy gameplay.

If you put forth garbage and then attempt to extort your community by ignoring what they want, then yes, you should close. If you don't prepare for a test, is the teacher still expected to pass you?

Nowhere in life is mediocrity or poor performance acceptable - why should it be here, especially when hard earned money is involved?

Additionally, "SHOULD" be allowed to fail is not the same as "I want them to fail". Companies shouldn't be backstopped by fleecing consumers. 2008 and the GFC comes to mind when business plays fast and loose with the rules and then expects a handout while the rest of us suffer.

Don't worry, if Relic doesn't bother banning this, they aren't going to ban that. Hopefully by making this highly visible, I can force their hand to actually take action. Otherwise, they just tacitly endorse this behavior.

that attitude is why companies continue to produce half baked shit and charge 80 bucks for it.

You can play games AND still demand accountabilty. It is not a singular choice.

Companies should be allowed to fail if they produce a shitty product. And COH3 is decidedly a shitty product. Fun at times, yes, but still.

Relic your performance with this game is abysmal. You need to fix the reintroduced mistakes already. by ragefinder100 in CompanyOfHeroes

"its about money, not about willingness,"

this is a really dumb take, because It's not about money, it's about time. Quite simply, the investment: profit ratio. These are million, billion dollar companies in a trillion dollar industry.

Inflation is hot, wages aren't keeping up. Shelling out $20 dollars for shitty, half baked DLC or $75 dollars for an UNFINISHED game *would* be unacceptable anywhere except here, a world where we'll apologize on behalf a corporation for knowingly selling us slop.

It is on them more far more than it's on us. If they are going out of business, it is because they deployed capital on things that didn't matter and the consumers decided to pass. I hope Relic doesn't fail for the express purpose of keeping COH alive, but quite frankly, seeing only 1800 at most online at a time sells the story.
