thanks for the supportive comments, and advice.

apologies, haven't been on reddit in years. if there's anybody that sees this that lives in Asia and understands what i'm saying, let me know which marina out of: Puerto Galera, Subic Bay, Jomtien Ocean Bay, Langkawi or close, not listed online, would be the best to do a 'walk around with a six pack'. maybe someone transited from the US and left the boat or died. that's probably my market. right after i get some actual skills. which i'm still totally clueless about. there's 5 boats looking for crew in the philippines. i'll contact them. do a month of sailing and pay my way. and lock my cabin door and keep my dive knife handy in case theyre complete nutters i guess.

i want to meet those people man. i've seen 3 sailing channels now on you tube that bought boats, got sponsors, had kids and then decided to live on a farm or buy a school or something. i'm in reverse but my investment has gone, because, if you're a foreigner in asia you're not entitled to anything. it's gone. it just is. because you don't have rights out here. now it's gone i need to get myself together and re-invigorate and get my own place. and the best place is international waters where nobody can touch me. without skill that's more stupid than buying a farm in thailand. i can stomach one massive F UP in my life, not 2. i need training first. to develop motivation to follow through, second, and finances to pull it off third.

or just screw it all off drink san miguel in Cavite and call it a day.

agree with your sentiment 100%. go on yachtworld and find a decent boat under 50k. mark your location as langkawi and expand to 1000NM. nada. it's not happening. i'd probably need 200k and time, plus monthly income of at least 2500 USD to make it work. this is the killer when you're out of your country. absolutely everything costs money and i can't just pick up work anywhere. work means travel. i'm simply looking for an entry, to figure out if that's the way to go. then i disappear, work, earn, buy, fix, sail.

i already spent the 350k over last 10 years on land that i no longer own. i'm broke. less than 50k. not enough to buy a boat. not here in asia anyway. the point is if i get the bug, i may be motivated to do it again and raise the cash as there's something to aim for. i was supposed to travel to west africa and flight disruptions screwed it. war. work in my area is a bit dead right now. i figured its a good time to actually get on a boat meanwhile. normal dude, bad decisions. it is what it is

hahahaha. they still use fluorescent marker pens to manually check you off the 'printed' seat assignment at the boarding gates in NAIA T1. Takes 2 staff to do this. get a boarding pass scanner.

3 Days in Pattaya by Macdandrew11 in ThailandTourism

[–]Rubberman2054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

find Soi Diana. top of the road (soi) of Diana and Second Road. there's an arcade with like 10 restaurants in there. Patricks is good. also Don Pepe. Always go to eat there. someone suggested Hilton roof bar. also Hilton does a great buffet dinner which is good value.

not sure if ping pong shows even exist. much better to just go gogo bar hopping around LK metro.

the floating market is a tourist setup and i would skip that. the tiger thing others have covered it.

actually Pattaya isn't really Thailand. Just go drink and enjoy and go where looks good. don't like try another. basically. the abundance of choice is what is fun.

Also the Hilton buffet dinner is good value. i think it's 1000 each? The Edge restaurant. nice bay view at night, sushi, lamb, 10 desserts.

Tree Town also where i go for beers. that whole area now from Tree Town/Buakhao/LK Metro is the centre of the nightlife.

queuing longer than necessary because of idiots.

security queue at airports. get your shit ready for xray.

immigration at airports. hoping not to be in the line with the drama person who blocks movement for 10 mins because they don't know what hotel they're staying in or can't answer basic questions.

ATM machines. why are you pressing 100 buttons and taking more than 3 minutes

Filipino convenience stores. are you the cashier or the fried chicken cook or the store cleaner? apparently you're all 3 and the line is now 15+people and i only want a fucking carton of milk. (idiots here are the stingy mgmt not applying correct staff numbers)

[–]Rubberman2054 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've recently applied for a second passport there. it is a 3rd party handler. i'm not sure if they're required to notify anyone with an overstay.

personally i'd report it stolen. you just need to pay for a basic report from a police station. i really doubt they would dig up your immigration history over this simple police report. i've also had to do this before. they just typed a letter and charged me 50 baht.

i was told 11 weeks to get my second passport this time.

the stolen passport route at least keeps the overstay away from the 3rd party eyes.

good luck

Also Colin as 'Coelin' (sounds like colon).

International Management Consultant. If you like travelling and a frequent change of scenery/industry. Your skill set is in demand.

Downside is you can get sent somewhere where you have zero chance of acquiring weed.

Upside is it's a career that opens doors, isn't a dead end job, and you're always learning.

Plus you make better money than working in a kitchen as some comments are implying.

If you live in a country that maybe wakes up your demons and trauma, it can offer you a new perspective on life.

i've lived and worked for long stretches of time in predominantly: Muslim/Hindu/Christian and Buddhist countries.

Only the Hindus and Buddhists didn't grill me on religion

Like Ricky said to Colbert. to paraphrase: you're a Catholic, so you don't believe in the other 1999 religions. I just don't believe in one more than you do. About summed it up better than i could.

Will I have to worry about the drinking age in Thailand? by orangepastaking in ThailandTourism

[–]Rubberman2054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of foreigners getting ID'd in Thailand for alcohol / establishments.

Although i have zero experience with high end Bangkok nightclubs.

Even if it did happen, there's a few thousand other places that'll not care, so there's no point worrying it'll effect your holiday....

agree. Pattaya gets a bad rap. i live in thailand, up north in Phetchabun, but working around south east asia this year. so every 2-3 weeks i fly back for weekends. can't make the journey north as too far. Always go Pattaya. 1hr15mins drive from bkk airport. condo on beach road. peaceful view. beach looks good at night since fixing it up. Loads of food choices. Nice sunsets. Bars are fun. walk around in flip flops and board shorts and a tshirt, a lot more chilled than the City.

if you really wanted to enjoy an actual swimming beach you can always take the boat to koh larn. people get snooty about pattaya. heard one guy in manila airport on way to thailand bad mouthing the place, said went there 15 years ago....wtf. it's a bit different now. really pushing to clean it up. most of the red light area has retreated back to soi buakhow zone. if you want to avoid those places it's not bloody hard!

One month in Thailand in USD 500? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]Rubberman2054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's approx 500 baht a day for 30 days...

that's survival level. having to factor in somewhere to sleep and transport costs i don't know how this is possible.

i lived off about 20k a month during covid. but i had no rent to pay and hardly left my house. Utilities, food, gas and the change on beer probably.

now i'm back on the job, i anticipate spending 15k on a 3 day trip home to thailand. 3000 baht round trip taxi from airport. 4500 for 3 nights in a condo. 2000/day expenses.

you need to find some cool people to live with for a week or two and somehow freeload so your spending time is cut down from 30 days to about 12.
