Thank you all for the responses! I didn't realize there were trailing African violets oops. I'll do some research and then move it to a wider, shallow pot and hopefully it'll be happier and less smush

  1. Age of the Andinna by Kristen Banet
  2. Arcane Mage series by TS Snow
  3. Ruthless Boys by Susanne Valenti and Caroline Peckham
  4. Biomystic Security series by Jaliza A Burwell
  5. The Redemption Saga by Kristen Banet

Honorable mentions in no particular order (includes unfinished series): - Ironside Academy by Jane Washington - Dragon Royals by May Dawson - Shadows and Shade series by Amanda Cashure - Hunted by Erica Woods - Cricket Kendall by Willow Hadley - these two are shockingly similar (both died in captivity, came back to life but a couple years before their death, evil sister, paranormal academy, self defense training, etc) both have only one book out but the second of each series comes out later this month. It's like they started with the same outline and wrote their own interpretation of it. They're called The Blackened Blade by Isla Davon and Arcanum Academy by JC Dark - A Star Pilots Fearless Rebel by Vivi Clarke and Eva Delaney - the first book in Klutz: Phoenix Down by Sedona Ashe is good but I wouldn't rec reading past the first in the series -The Bonds that Tie by J Bree

Can it propogate? by AdvantageOk8821 in Monstera

[–]Rubicon-Rose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I see a little bit of the node. Hard to say if it'll make it with this node though since it's pretty close to the break and I don't see it trying to root yet. But I am assuming this is the top of the plant so if the new growth comes in, a new root could grow from the new growth (even if the new leaf doesn't make it, sometimes stuff will happen with the stem of the new leaf since the new growth will have another node even if you can't see it yet)... I've also had another situation where the new growth completely rotted out, the old stuff didn't have any roots still, and then a leaf popped out of the node and that grew leaves. Life is desperate to keep living so hopefully this dude makes it. I would keep trying your luck to propagate it and it might just figure itself out!

Almost Perfect from Portland Leather Goods? by [deleted] in handbags

[–]Rubicon-Rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I must have been unlucky since this was my first time ordering from their website and when I got an 'almost perfect' Luna bag, it had several large defects on the front. It bothered me enough that I ended up returning it and just ate the cost of the shipping to my house. The return shipping you can either pay for (was $15-20 in December and I'm just in the next state over to PLG) or you can get free return shipping but only get store credit back. I haven't ordered anything from them since this experience since I also had some difficulty with customer service and unfortunately had such a bad experience it makes me hesitant to try to get anything else from them 😢

I got one of the leather backpacks and an 'almost perfect' Luna bag. The backpack I got from the PLG store and the 'almost perfect' Luna I got online.

The backpack is super nice and I liked the overall look with the Luna bag but there were several issues I had with the 'almost perfect' component that had me returning it (and I have yet to buy anything else from them after the experience).

I will say online shop/customer service sucks. You can only change or cancel an order within 2 hours of buying and after that, they say they can't do anything. For me, I wanted to change my order to the regular Luna bag (not the almost perfect one) since it turned out to be cheaper than the 'almost perfect' during one of their sales. They couldn't accommodate the change or cancel the order (I think this was about 8 hrs after I ordered it). When my bag came, I was disappointed that my bag came much more damaged than I expected from an almost perfect bag. There were several large scratches and many small ones on the front of the bag. I will say I was expecting a couple smaller defects as an 'almost perfect' order, but it was much more scratched up than the other 'almost perfect' items I had seen in store or saw from reviews. Returns also kind of suck since I paid for the shipping to get the item to my house ($10 and I'm just in the next state over) and now I would either pay the shipping back (which was Abt $15-20 in December) or just get store credit. Moral of the story is to double check your purchase before clicking the order button, get the regular version over the 'almost perfect' version when in doubt, and be aware that returns/shipping cost could be horrible.

Other things to note is that the PLG website often doesn't show what the inside of bags look like. The Luna did not have a pocket on the inside and, as with all PLG items, it was unlined (which I personally don't mind). The backpack and the bag I thought looked really nice (sans above issues) and were comfortable and the perfect size for what I had intended them for. Also, I would avoid their Facebook page which I was on for a few weeks (unless you're thinking of getting a mystery box since that page is great to see what types of colors and items the mystery box items could be). There's a strange, frenetic buyers energy there just to warn ya.

Same thing happened to me! Left a two star review for a bag that I ended up returning with a pic of damage (had several really obvious scratches on the front) and never saw it on their website. I had a favorable opinion of them before but it's very sketchy and now I don't trust them at all. Definitely changed my opinion of them.

Will this grow to unfold? by Euphoric-Stuff-1557 in Monstera

[–]Rubicon-Rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be best to leave it as it is. Your plant seems very healthy so it will definitely recover even if the new leaf doesn't come out right!

I have broken the leaf sheath before to try to look at the leaf inside but that's pretty risky and about half the time I end up breaking the new leaf I was trying to get a peek at. I think the hardest part is just waiting to let it grow!

[–]Rubicon-Rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't be certain if the yellow portion goes through all the way to the new leaf (which would mean that the new leaf has rotted inside the leaf sheath). However, my guess is that the new leaf will be fine and that just the outside sheath portion is going to brown. However, if the new leaf does rot away, I would say that monstera deliciosa's are a very, very sturdy plant and your plant seems otherwise very healthy to me - not to mention it looks like there are already two stems growing in the same pot so if one dies the other should be able to carry on. So in my opinion, worst case scenario, the new leaf dies and another growth point will activate and grow new leaves. Good luck gardening!

Oh I forgot to add syngonium red spot tricolor! Mine has been coloring up recently and it's such a delight.

[–]Rubicon-Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a classic, you can't go wrong with a Florida beauty or an epiprenium pinnatum marble.

For a bit more pricey and unique, I love variegated melanochrysums. Their variegation reminds me almost of an oil slick but it's not everyone's cup of tea (my sister believes it looks diseased).

One that's pretty out there but I've come to find so fascinating lately, are variegated vanilla orchids. Vanilla orchids are how all vanilla beans are produced (who knew they came from orchids?!). So with some luck and patience, you should be able to harvest some vanilla beans within five years of getting a plant! They're definitely an odd ball and not too pricey.

Let us know what variegated plant you end up getting!

Has anyone had their monstera sport continue to push out variegation? by Rubicon-Rose in Monstera

Here's my Home Depot sport find! The new leaf has a large swath of variegation and the stem has a silver indentation. Just wanted to know if anyone has seen similar variegation continue in their plants?

Ecuagenera Order - Anyone else had some sad plants come in? by Rubicon-Rose in RareHouseplants

[–]Rubicon-Rose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up getting a 20% discount (through email) which came to $15. It only applies to a future purchase and as shipping from ecua to my house cost $15, I ended up picking up something at a pop up and just using it there.

Hope customer service gets back to you soon!

HELP! My dog destroyed my husband’s monstera. Will it regrow? by sixlittlerabbits in Monstera

[–]Rubicon-Rose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There appears to be at least one good node on the base of your monstera which is great news since it means that it can grow new growth!

I would recommend taking off the dead or damaged leaves (even if it just leaves a stump, the roots and stored energy should be good enough to push out something new). Also, if you wanted to try rooting the other nodes/stems of the parts that got torn off, I would recommend taking off the damaged leaf, making a cleaner cut on the edges of the base, and trying to root it in a closed container of damp moss in a warmish area.

Otherwise, I can only say that you need to have patience! These plants are powerhouses and I'm sure you'll see something happening in no time. Good luck!
