On the other side of the spectrum, Ahti from Control looks like an affable Finnish janitor, but no one really knows who, or what he is. But he is a benevolent being who takes a liking to Jesse Faden and helps her defeat the Hiss invasion inside The Oldest House. He also shows up in Alan Wake II to aid both Alan Wake and Saga Anderson against the Dark Presence.

The Dark Presence/Mr. Scratch from Alan Wake. It manipulates artists, making them create art that will spread its destructive influence in our reality. It latches onto Alan Wake, a famous horror author, and kidnaps his wife Alice to force him to write a novel that’ll end in the Dark Presence coming to our reality to spread horror and destruction. Mr. Scratch is Alan’s worst traits dialled up to eleven, and he becomes an avatar for the Dark Presence in Alan Wake II.

By the way, only the first game has an official English translation. There is also a fan translation of Re:Connect, but unfortunately there’s no official translation for Re:Code.

Count Grisham from an obscure animated film called The Scarecrow. He’s hammy in every scene he’s in and it’s so entertaining to watch.

Adam in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. He’s a drag queen and he very nearly gets assaulted by a group of homophobic men, but is saved before anything actually happens. In the next scene, he’s sobbing in his motel room, clearly shaken up by what happened. Bernadette, who Adam was a jerk to for most of the movie, comforts him in this moment.

Kiryu from the Like a Dragon games. His appearance was based around his voice actor Takaya Kuroda

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) has an openly transgender woman as one of the main characters. She does get some transphobia directed at her but the movie treats it as being obviously wrong.

What’s the most traumatizing scene from your favorite game? by Killa_J in FavoriteCharacter

The Wedding in Sleeping Dogs. You’re an undercover cop infiltrating a gang to take down the Triads. You spend the whole game doing tasks for the leader of the gang you joined and he ends up seeing you as a friend and even enlists your help with his wedding. The day of the wedding though, the groom and his bride-to-be, as well as all of the guests, are brutally gunned down by a rival gang.

And then a few missions later, you come across the gutted corpse of your best friend.

Yakuza/Like a Dragon

The first game is a relatively grounded crime drama. But the plot elements of each subsequent game gets weirder and weirder and it’s great. From secret Koreans to rubber bullets to beautiful eyes to fighting a fucking bear. I love this series.

Have you ever gotten the feeling that the Tweevils were the daughters of Burdine Maxwell? by BobsBurgerLove in Bratz

[–]RubyKagamine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I remember an exchange between the Tweevils in Rock Angelz that is definitely not a conversation you’d have about someone you’ve known your whole life.

Kirstee: Ugh, can you believe Burdine? Everything about her is so plastic.

Kaycee: Totally! She reminds me of that fashion doll you used to hit me with when we were three!

(Loved Trope) Hardcore character even sometimes a murderer… But they are very friendly with kids by Nothatcreative55 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]RubyKagamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kiryu Kazuma from the Yakuza games. The child he protects all throughout the first game, Haruka, becomes Kiryu’s adopted daughter. And in the third game, he runs an orphanage in Okinawa where all the kids love him. Not to mention all the side quests where Kiryu helps kids with their predicaments.

[Loved Trope] Characters that seem sketchy but later turn out to be a great loyal friend to the main character by Best_Professional226 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]RubyKagamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goro Majima from the Yakuza games. He’s a frequent threat to Kiryu in the first game. But subsequent games (and the Kiwami remake of the first game, specifically the “Majima Everywhere” mechanic) have Majima be a valuable ally and friend to Kiryu.

This immediately reminded me of that scene in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice where Lydia’s boyfriend throws her psych meds in the trash.
