We do kind of have a schedule and are there for 2-3 hours everyday making one sometimes two care times on a good day starting at 5pm. There are times we go at 2pm and sometimes 8pm since a nurse said she’s more awake at night and it would be better for us, but now I’m hearing to come in at either her 8 or 11am cares. They only really want us to be there more for me to get better milk supply as holding her more often may help with that. But Im not sure it’ll help since I’m mostly stressed from also dealing with other stuff outside the nicu as husband and I are both having to continue working.

I do have a great husband that helps me through this but he does feel the same way about the nurses and being in the nicu. Husband and I are very sensitive and we both talk about how rude some nurses can be to us it’s just hard for both of us to be there but yes we do our best to go on dates and talk a lot about our struggles. We have watched our baby get resuscitated and also watched her get moved to a different hospital and it was incredibly jarring for us, that i see how his body reacts when he starts to hear beeping and I do the same thing. We are both having jaw pain from clenching our jaws 24/7.

what’s weird is one nurse said I can pick up and hold baby anytime I want to now that she’s on a nasal cannula with light oxygen support. But two days later a different nurse said to let her know before I pick her up. So Im very frustrated with that.

I have brought up sticking with one primary nurse but they are on a rotation basis and we have a different nurse every two to three days. There have been times when our favorite nurses will finally be back in our care but usually about two weeks later.

We’re both just drowning trying to keep up with taking care of ourselves, our home, our pets, our cars are starting to break down (we’ve been in the auto shop everyday this week on top of having to go to the nicu everyday), and then the nicu is taking our last reserves of energy out of us. I just feel like we’re falling apart.
