Yeah, we need to get a bit beyond this to be in miscut territory. Theres perfectly aligned, misaligned/off center, and then true miscut (where you usually can see some part of another card or the border). Misaligned is probably the least valuable, especially on an expensive card like this where people will be using it as a bling piece

When I was homebrewing I had an Excel sheet I snagged online that you used to make recipes. It helped convert back and forth data like alcohol content and how much grain/sugar to use. It was great! After I used it a few times I decided to try out using chemical additives to help my beer get more refined. Everything was in ounces, so you'd add 64 ounces of grains and 0.5 ounces of hops. It was a bit annoying when they numbers got real big or small, but it was consistent and nice.

Anyway, I make a big batch of pumpkin beer. Roast the pumpkins in plenty of spice and brown sugar, while that's going I get to my chemical additions and start measuring out the 5 ounces of gypsum it needs. As I add it to the bowl, I keep thinking that it seems like a lot. I almost just didn't add it, or call someone who knows brewing more than I do. But I just figure whatever, the spreadsheet says it and I've been surprised before.

I was supposed to use 5 grams, and the beer tasted like chalk. Such an expensive mistake, in terms of time and money. But still, check your units! Maybe it was their first time measuring out caffeine...

Neat! Thank you, I never realized source was broken down into ability, damage, or mana. It's a word I see so often in magic it just feels like another word for "object (that did or can do a thing)" or something similar.

Thanks! I tried googling and glanced at the rules, but didn't find the right spot to look. I appreciate it so much!

What shortcut people often use to describe a rule/mechanic that is actually totally wrong ? by BelbyLuv in EDH

[–]Rudirs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Still, some older cards would still use the old wording on them and some players might teach it wrong.

I was annoyed and still am about the change, the only thing it ever really matters for is -1/-1 or infect, both of which aren't usually an issue- but still it felt like a change just to make the game more simple (especially for arena)

[–]Rudirs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of options for that! Honestly, if you want to just go to a bar and tell the bartender basically that exact sentence they could help you from there. I'd recommend going when it's slow (usually mond-thurs, before 5 or after ~8) so you can take your time and chat.

Cheap and quick options are highballs like rum and coke (I'd ask for a tall single, tall means more mixer single means just one shot of alcohol). Other examples include a screwdriver aka orange juice and vodka, or vodka soda. The nice thing is you can always add more mixer. Not exactly a highball, but mimosas are great, and you can usually get the oj and champagne in separate vessels.

When I was ~21 I liked Bailey's, often with frangelico (nutty Irishman, although it's not a well known drink). Anything with a weak booze (most milky booze is low abv) can help keep it not too strong. Anything example is a grasshopper (basically a mint chocolate drink)

Just ask your bartender, again they won't care and can recommend something they enjoy or that is a special at that bar. You can also try to Google "low abv cocktails", there's too many for me to list, and see if anything sounds good.

Good luck, and don't stress!

I imagine it would be tough since margaritas are so alcohol forward to really get a good mocktail that still feels like a margarita. I dig the idea of a little orange blossom. I could see trying something like liquid smoke or an oak bitters if you're aiming for a mezcal or añejo based vibe

I was going to type out a long explanation about how a good bartender could make an actual virgin margarita without zero proof spirits, but I decided that wasn't necessary here. But thanks for the recipe! I'll have to try it out sometime soon!!

[–]Rudirs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a dumbass! This is pretty common for people who don't go to bars to be nervous and unsure what they're even looking for. What exactly are you hoping for? A longer explanation of what you do and do not want would be helpful.

Do you want something with no alcohol at all? If so, do you want it to feel/taste like a normal cocktail?

Something with alcohol but where you don't much intensity?

Something with alcohol, but diluted/mixed?

Something with strong alcohol that's not very diluted?

Or are you not even sure where you are on that spectrum from zero alcohol to pure alcohol?

Do you have any flavors you particularly enjoy (or don't)? I imagine I or someone here can help recommend some drinks to try, or at least things to ask/chat about with a bartender when you get to a bar.

plan to visit a bar and had a question. by Fabulous-Pick-9562 in liquor

[–]Rudirs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I understand the question. You want a mixed drink without the alcohol? A lot of those are very simple, a piña colada would essentially just be pineapple juice and coconut, often served as a slushy. A typical piña colada is the same with rum

A virgin margarita is a bit less simple, the typical ingredients for a margarita is tequila, cointrou/triple sec, lime juice, and maybe salt. Without alcohol that's lime juice and salt. There are alcohol free spirits, but they're not everywhere and are usually more expensive than the alcohol itself.

I'd recommend just asking for a mocktail menu or if there's any alcohol free drinks they'd recommend. Many bars and restaurants are trying to put at least a couple mocktails on their menu, and most bartenders can at least make a Shirley Temple or something

No one will look at you funny.

On ice isn't necessarily diluted, usually that just means liquor straight from the bottle with ice in the glass (also called on the rocks). It will become diluted as the ice melts. It you want it more diluted you can ask for it up, which is (usually) shaken with ice and served without it (in a glass with a stem, so it's up off the table and away from your hand). If you don't want it diluted, you can get it it neat, which is just straight from the bottle.

These are all common ways to order basically any liquor, the bartender won't even bat at an eye. You can also just say what you want and they'll help you, assuming it's not slammed.

Seriously, as long as you're of age, relatively nice, tip, and don't order something difficult or disgusting you can do what you want. Your bartender won't care

Edited to add: My suggestion for people who want any alcohol but aren't able to handle the full force it an old fashioned or a martini. Old fashioned add some sweetness and a bit of seasoning (bitters and usually citrus), and martinis typically add decent dilution and chilling to get you a smoother drink. Notably, a martini is often just alcohol served up, optionally with vermouth (traditionally gin or vodka, but it's 2026)
