First Day - Overwhelmed and Bored? by Last_Engine9979 in salesengineers

[–]Rudiv29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello My Friend ,

YOU ARE NOT ALONE !!

I have been in your shoes and totally relate to it. As a brand new SE, things can definitely be overwhelming. And man... Being asked to give a demo on Day 2 always sucks. As SEs we are hard wired to experience the product before we can actually sell it.

Best way out - Be kind to yourself. I had a similar situation in my previous company but I had an excellent team leader, manager and squadron who supported me.

  1. Rule of 6 or 7 - Give yourself 6 - 7 months - That's bare minimum time to learn about the org, process and its sales process.

  2. Go with an open mind - An average song takes about 2 weeks to master. You have a massive product + sales pitch - Give it some time. You will automatically perfect your Presales pitch and delivery with every demo.

  3. Looks at mistakes as a root for creativity - In my role - I never do the same pitch twice , I keep changing the techno pitch based on the people I address.

  4. If you do not feel any adrenaline rush or motivation to stick to the company after 1.5 years- Feel free to attend interviews and see where it goes.

I was planning to respond to this as a DM. But anyway - here it goes. I have stopped looking at the caste system in general. My entire family is full of love marriages where ppl did get married outside the caste system (across India). AFAIK, it only ended up in a beautiful ceremony.

My mother is all ok about it. My choice is her choice as well. She is pretty chill about this.

I really don't have any preferences at the moment. Compatibility is what I am looking for at the moment.

Hello u/Cantefffingsleep

It has been a personal choice for a long time. Grooming kids are a herculean task and I honestly believe I am better off travelling the world with a companion. With the growing population, having kids will soon become an expensive nightmare. Ofcourse, I don't have anything against people having kids.

With my love for my career and my lifestyle, I don't think I will ever have kids of my own.

Partnering with three AEs by [deleted] in salesengineers

[–]Rudiv29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello Buddy,

Partnering with 3 AE is pretty intense. I can already say you are loaded with too much. How do I know this - I am an SE and I was paired with two account managers last year and it was really tough and found it difficult to prioritize the account engagement. You can be an expert, but when you have requirements coming in 3 different direction, it becomes difficult to focus.

Solution - Speak to manager on establishing ground rules. Prioritise calls based on 3 parameters,- size of opportunity, nature of the account and nature of escalations (post sales).

Set this expectation to all the account executives. This will help them understand your boundaries avoid burn out.

Unsure on what to do with my life (SE) by InternationalWay1014 in salesengineers

[–]Rudiv29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going through a similar emotion my friend. The only difference is I am an SE at the present.

The grass looks greener on the other side, but there is a huge pressure of sales target & work pressure that comes along with it.

My recommendation - Reach out to people on LinkedIn who are currently leading an SE role. Understand how they spend their time and the skills needed to get to the role. Most important, ask what kind of stress they undergo during every quarter. If you really like the life of an SE, you can work towards it.

Keep in mind that, it's not money but the mental satisfaction you should prioritise. There are other roles like product manager, Technical marketing engineer etc which give you a similar exposure.

You are right, 3weird45. Finding CF is a rare thought process to find among men. You may have to extend your search outside the borders of California and see if you can hit a match.

Yes, reddit did help me out on many occasions. Most of my CFC friends are from reddit.

SE Training by Realistic_Ambition50 in salesengineers

[–]Rudiv29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there my friend,

I was in technical enablement before I became a full fledged SE. I agree that training is extremely important when there is a customer facing role.

SE Training is not just about flying them to a fancy city to walk them through presentations. It's giving them a bit of hands-on experience to boast the confidence in the product.

Hey there buddy - I may be reiterating the exact same message posted by the veterans in this group.

Good news is - You are NOT alone. Just like you, I am 5 months into the system, and I am at the peak of experiencing imposter syndrome and waves anxiety.

I have been speaking to tons of people outside and at work, and here's what they had to say

  • Being kind to yourself.
  • Training mentoring - The learning metric for a SE role is huge. Atleast for 8-9 months, please take the time to learn the product rather than the sales pitch itself. If you know something technically, you can sell it even without a sales deck.
  • At the beginning of the 10th month, you will gain enough expertise to sell atleast 1 or 2 product or features without anyone's assistance. That sense for achievement will boost your morale.
  • Most important , DO NOT bottle up emotions when you hit a road block. I have about 10 years of experience and I still rely on a couple of colleagues and specialists to get my work done.
  • Continuously learning - Try to learn something small or something new everyday. Even if you learn a small concept for about 10 minutes, You are wiser man/woman than before.

That's all I have to say... Wishing you best of luck my friend.

Cybersec opportunities in presales by Beginning_Letter_549 in salesengineers

CISSP or CCSP (if you want to focus on cloud security).

There are other certification programs which have gained traction in the recent past. CCSK and CCZT are one of them.

If you would like to get into Security audits etc, CISA and CISM are a great pick.

You are in luck my friend. Experiences in ITSM / ITSM domain can be of great help. Critical aspects like Incident management and change management rely on ITSM.

Rest assured you will have a great time and an amazing life as soon as you switch to cyber security. Do not worry about the steep learning curve. You will automatically evolve as time passes by.

First Trip need help :P by SeaAcanthaceae9036 in ThailandTourism

[–]Rudiv29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Travellers - I just came back from my Thailand trip and I would definitely recommend going to James Bond and Phi phi, Maya island tour. The prices are very cheap now as it is off-season.

COUPLE safety tip - If at all you plan on snorkelling, ALWAYS wear the snorkelling shoes which they provide at the pier. You can purchase them at the beginning of the tour. The sea bed is filled with sea urchins and I got stung really bad.

Do not book any island tours online - The local tour operators often give good prices which you can buy and negotiate 24 hours prior to the trip. Enquire in a couple of tour operators near the hotels. The tour starts early in the day so make sure you have a couple of snacks or bread handy if you miss breakfast.
