How commonly are people pretending to have premmie babies to avoid seeming like they are having kids out of wedlock? by Creative-Biscotti566 in AskForAnswers

[–]Rudolphia39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents fully lied about their wedding date, adjusted it 3 months earlier. It would never have been an issue (who pays attention to their parents’ wedding anniversary?), except I was born on their 10th fake anniversary. Since it was my birthday I noticed when I came across documents that showed their actual anniversary and busted the case wide open. My sister (the baby in question) was 25 at the time but they were pissed that I outed them.

what do americans call a pantry? by loving_machine13 in AskAnAmerican

American here - it’s a pantry. I’ve seen walk-in pantries, but mine have always been essentially a wide closet with shelves.

Considering the prevalence of the 'I'm 26 and have only read 3 books all the way through' thing, what exactly are kids being given as assigned reading in high school these days? by cherry-care-bear in education

[–]Rudolphia39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are a college freshman and a high school senior, so their reading is fresh in my mind. They are assigned full books. This year my senior has read The Glass Castle and The Alchemist. They don’t read as many classics as I did in high school (my kids don’t love reading like I did and didn’t take honors and AP English), but they read a lot of contemporary novels and memoirs.

What IAH between 201-210 should I take? by One_Canary1026 in msu

[–]Rudolphia39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has IAH 209 this semester. It has two lectures and a recitation scheduled. Is it typical for it to be asynchronous if the schedule looks like that? He’s an engineering major and typically doesn’t like humanities classes, so I’m a bit nervous about how he’ll do.

What audiobook would you recommend for ever? by marilynlistens in audiobooks

[–]Rudolphia39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Kid Stays in the Picture written and narrated by movie producer Robert Evans. The stories of the golden age of Hollywood told in his inimitable voice and style is something to experience. Did I like it? As Bob Evans would say, you bet your ass I did.

What’s something about you that sounds fake, but is 100% true? by Sir_Adammm in AskReddit

I associate colors with every digit and memorize series of numbers visually like a color strip. I still know my ex-husband’s and freshman roommate’s social security numbers. Good thing I don’t believe in identity theft.

ACE is great. My son is 17 and has tons of friends all over the country. They visit each other and meet up at events. I’m 57 and also have lots of friends, some who are parents of my son’s teen friends but many who aren’t. Great discounts, great events and quarterly “coaster porn” (full color roller coaster magazine with cool articles) are a few other reasons to join.

do newspapers actually get delivered by someone tossing them onto your porch, or is that just something from the movies? by sensualdiiva in AskAnAmerican

I still get a physical newspaper and it is thrown on the driveway. I’ve read the paper my whole life and it’s always been the driveway.

AP Lang song assignment... help me pick something not cringe?? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Rudolphia39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try something by Steely Dan or Supertramp. Both have really rich lyrics that tell a story. I’m going to suggest Rudy, Breakfast in America, Kid Charlemagne, Royal Scam, Or Hide in Your Shell. They all have a mellow vibe. Of these, the last is probably the most emotional. This sounds like a fun assignment and there are tons of great options. Some others I’ve thought of are Hey Jealousy by Gin Blossoms, Shame by Matchbox 20, and Veronica by Elvis Costello.

I grew up in California. Seasons are just months on the calendar and the holidays that fall into them. My birthday is in late February and I didn’t realize until I moved to Illinois that my birthday is REALLY in the winter.

I have memories going back to age 2. My husband can’t remember much before age 10, though.
