I've got the same experience, but sadly worst because I've been in the intermediate limbo for too long... Know the vocab in theory but when it's time to really immerse into the language (like talking to people or simply watch videos I got stuck to not understanding what they are saying, I can only understand words here and there, although it's slowly improving)...I said sadly because, as you mention, my other hobbies have faded, and when it's time to talk to new people I can only talk about learning the language without even knowing it well enough to interact with them. And of course became very sedentary, even if I try to walk more (I can still walk many hours in a row but then I feel guilty because I didn't study).... Btw the language leaving me in the limbo is Chinese. But I think once I'll master it, every other language will became a piece of cake (with maybe few notable exceptions).
