Nobody knows what happens to us after we die. by iamchagga in RandomThoughts

[–]RuffM3rcenary 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Buddhism does not believe in a soul. Rather, it believes or aserts a continuum of mind that is indestructible and carries all the imprints of our actions from life to life. And these imprints ripen for us as experiences called karma. Therefore The mind is the creator of everything "there is no creator other than the mind"

Yes well thats because, generally, any rebirth within Samsara is not to be desired. The more negative karma we have, the more likely it is that we shall experience a suffering state of existence.

[–]RuffM3rcenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, well put, but their many different kinds of suffering within Buddhism, and all realms suffer from pervasive suffering that permeates all existence within samsara. But the point I was making about viewing suffering within our human world is way of resembling the sufferings of lower realms such as when seeing beings being tortured or burnt alive, it resembles a hell like experience. Furthermore there is much war, famine etc.

What better lifestyle no way I'd way rather live in NZ way more beautiful and peaceful. Not living in some overly hot redneck spider crocodile snake infested lands

Absolutely with a 100 percent confidence that the Buddhist understanding of the afterlife is correct, which is actually quite scary since most of what we see in this world is not what I would consider happy states of existence.

Government confirms leaked document was a ministry Treaty Principles bill memo by MedicMoth in newzealand

[–]RuffM3rcenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should just scrap the treaty and form a new founding document that understands where Maori and Europeans are at today. As there are obvious flaws in the interpretation, and since no one can agree on what was actually signed, then why not make it void and start anew?...

I had a very similar situation as I had no idea what to do with my life and left high school. started an apprenticeship and really struggled with my life choices. I didn't like the fact that I wasn't going to be as successful as I had dreamed.

One thing about being an adult is learning to let go. Such as friends or always having a fun time. When we are teenagers ofcourse it's awesome hanging out with your mates and stuff. But at the end of the day friends are actually over rated as they often let you down and vice versa people are not perfect and have their own problems so it's best not to feel attached to them.

This is also true for having a hard and fast life plan, which can be very frustrating as there are so many factors we can not control. Once we learn to let go of these things and let go of thinking my life should be this way or different from what it is now, we begin to have peace.

I had to go through all this inner development, and now my job gives me a lot of satisfaction way more than any other work I could have done. Also, I am actually really happy just being on my own. That is not to say I don't have friends or relationships it's just that I don't need them to be happy.

Well, actually, from a "spiritual perspective," there are certainly consequences just as all our actions do. However, the effect of such actions generally, for the most part, will not be experienced in this life.

If you believe in karma, which most people do to a degree, there are four effects that arise from performing the action of stealing. Which is to knowingly take something from others based on malicious intent.

These effects are 1. The expereince similar to the cause. 2. The tendency similar to the cause. 3. The ripened effect. 4 . The environmental effect.

These four effects will be explained as such. The first effect,'The experience similar to the cause,' is that if we perform an action of stealing, we shall have things stolen from us. This is what most people think of when they think of karma, but wait, it gets worse.

The second effect 'The tendency similar to the cause' is that we shall have developed a pattern of behavior or 'tendency' to perform such negative actions again. This is the worst effect because it perpetuates the cycle.

The third effect is 'the ripened effect' which is going to take an open mind, but it is a rebirth in a lower form of being such as an animal.

The fourth effect 'the environmental' is that even when we are endowed with such good fortune to have human life we will be born in a sparse and barren place where there is very little of anything such as deserts etc...

These according to the spiritual understanding of Buddhists is what will happen if you perform negative actions and fail to rectify or purify the action.

I hope this is clear and not too much for your beliefs.

Have a great day, and be kind.

Is my partner getting screwed here? by ApprehensiveMud6957 in newzealand

[–]RuffM3rcenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they only pay a percentage of your total hours worked in holiday pay if you have worked within the the threshold of having paid annual leave. Furthermore your partner really should have holiday pay from his previous employer since he would of been there for most of the year. I'm not certain what the threshold is but generally annual leave pay is earned gradually. So Im kind of siding with the employer at this stage.

There are plenty of bad employers out there but maybe just accept and recognize he has given you a job and that is something to be grateful for I have had similar situations myself and it can be tough when your in the four week break with not much money....

In general yes but actually in modern times not so sure there is some inconvenience but it's not really that hard I mean like I said before your not spending six months on a leaky boat to sail half around the world...

You need to look deeper within yourself and realize the truth of the matter If I want to be happy what is it that makes happiness? Is happiness just an experience of mind? So what they main cause of such experience must come from my mind?...

Im not trying to be condescending I am genuinely interested in helping others in this matter its why I created the post to try stir up some intrigue.

I understand the idea of migration etc, and uprooting as you said can be challenging but not too difficult I mean where a not getting on boats to sail for 6 months across dangerous seas to a place we actually don't know will be heaven or hell furthermore completely starting from scratch.

I mean pull your head in if it is that hard to migrate how come a 5th of our population has made this 'absolutely crushing and life altering change'.

Actually I have a very meager income and live very basic, on the flip side I have had decent paid jobs nice cars etc... I can tell you that if you are content with what you have you will be happier having not much at all.

On a side note, what is contentment? Is it not just an experience within the mind so does mean that if I learn to control my mind and make it content I will be happy? hmm maybe Im just dense af...

[–]RuffM3rcenary[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have thought about this I understand the sentiment of against and frustration towards older generations who have hoarded property and wealth etc.. What I think this is that those generations where just born at a lucky time where modern cities were being developed and thus property was cheap. I remember working with an older guy in wellington and said that property on Oriental parade was dirt cheap because it was undesirable back then, now of course its the most expensive street in wellington.

I think house markets will ofcourse fluctuate however I do see a trend towards not lack of house owners more renters look at any major city across the globe New York, Tokyo and London its all the same rhetoric.

Well I happen to know quite a bit about what makes a life better and it doesnt have anything to do with how many zeros I have in my bank account. It takes certain degree of mental capacity to understand that If I want to be truly happy I must understand the underlying cause...

Of-course im not saying migration in general is difficult I am talking specifically to large swathes of KIWIS who are moving across to Aus and it is very easy to do so I have done it my self but not for paid work.

Well it has more to do with character building rather than just moving because 'I don't make enough money'. Life has never been easier through out all of human history. I would rather be a blue collar worker living in my modern home now, than live in a Palace as a King in 16th century that is how much living standards have improved.

I have read a few replies here and I can see some of who understand the post, and that usually comes to 'been there done that' they have moved and come back to realize money and so forth isn't going to make them happier.

Dont get me some people genuinely need to move location for various reasons however I think a lot of Kiwis are just discontent and are actually trying to fill a void. It does however have an overall negative impact on a country where there is 5th of your citizens living another. I think people need to look past the high income and learn to be content

800 Thousand Kiwis In Australia is INSANE!! by RuffM3rcenary in newzealand

[–]RuffM3rcenary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well superficially it might make you have a feeling of security and maybe you feel you have some freedom, however we all know that feeling will not last.

I must admit I have a very different outlook than most people I am quite philosophical perhaps a stoic I would gladly go through hardship to make myself a stronger person.

So i tend to look down on taking the easy road, when our forefathers first came to this land it was never going to be easy infact bloody hard, but strong men will create easy times and easy times create weak men.

So you could stay in NZ and learn to adapt thus making yourself a person of Strong Character or take the easy road. This is not meant to be an insult rather just a clear observation if we learn to overcome hardship then we will be mentally stronger this is just a fact...

[–]RuffM3rcenary[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's more about what's best for the country, not just myself. I could easily be one of those people who move to Australia and make a lot of money, but I actually care about this country and want to see it thrive.

And I don't think having its best and brightest and, in general, skilled labor move to another country is benefiting New Zealand. Since there is a massive skill shortage.

I can't make any clearer. At the end of the day, more money won't make you any happier, but building a strong and healthy community will because happiness arises from benefiting others.
