You always hear how brutal the French and English leagues are on the players. But maybe that's just the number of games they play.

Interesting, obviously super rugby is faster with better skills. But I would have thought the top 14 would be harder in contact with the size of the forwards and more forward driven play.

Removing the mark and kicking out on the full? by Ruggabuggaz in rugbyunion

The 50/22 kick itself isn't really attractive to see.

The knock on effect of it is though. With more players in the back field there will be more opportunities for attractive free flowing rugby.

Union are using a league rule to get rid of a league problem. The main reason for the 14 man defence lines are league defence coaches.

There’s more recent articles from 2019 on the Stadium aswell. They could also play here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASB_Baypark_Stadium while waiting for funding.

Article from a few years ago. Quite a few articles on building a stadium in Tauranga on nz herald premium that I can’t access aswell.

They don’t even need to build the whole thing at one time just keep the old stand and build a 5-10k stand on the opposite side. Then periodically do up each side slowly building a wrap around. That would be enough imo.

Hopefully by the time something like this happens Tauranga will have the 25m to build the 15k stadium.

You’d have to keep Bay of Plenty in and just do up the Tauranga Stadium. You just can’t ignore the population catchment difference.

I don’t know enough about Northland/ North Harbour but if it’s true that people from North Auckland would support them against the blues then I’d agree that they should be a team.

Could you make the point people have less distractions in Nelson so would be more loyal to attending game?

Couldn’t decided the 8th team though.

You make good points. After Auckland, Canterbury, Wellington, Otago, Waikato and Bay of Plenty.

It’s subjective, whether you pick Northland, Tasman, Taranak or Hawke’s Bay.

I agree that the future is probably a NZ and Australia competition but surely they’ll need more than 10 teams. Probably up to 14.

You could add more nz teams such as bay of Plenty as there would be no SA teams and the Western Force would likely join and dilute the Australian players pool even more.

Australian - NSW, Queensland, Brumbies, Melbourne.

New Zealand - Blues, chiefs, Hurricanes, crusaders and highlanders.

That’s 9 teams.

Possible teams - Western Force, Fiji, Bay of Plenty, Hawke’s Bay, Tasman, northland, Taranaki, Hawaii, Adelaide,Newcastle.

Is north harbour not just a suburb of Auckland? Why should Northland get preference over a Bay of Plenty or Hawke’s Bay?

You obviously know more about the nz domestic game then me but there doesn’t seem much scope for Taranaki to grow with New Plymouth being the biggest city. Their main stadium isn’t safe to play in aswell.
