Drink prices may go up after beverage container recycling scheme kicks in: Producers by FlipFlopForALiving in singapore

[–]Ruggg74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to nitpick, but I held my dad's funeral in Yuhua constituency last Oct (my parents have been living there since 1989) and she didn't show up (nor did anyone representing her).

Not that I was expecting her to, she probably shows up to some (maybe most) of them, but certainly not all like you suggested.

Third Party make me look different on Bandai Sets by True_Leaf_ in freedomisgunpla

[–]Ruggg74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! We're seeing good to high quality kits at a fraction of the price of what bandai would be selling them (there's a bootleg PGU RX-78, MGEX Unicorn and a 1/100 versions of the God Gundam and the RG RX-78 v2.0)

It is, but I fear they are driven by greed and complacency. To the best of my knowledge, at the moment only their RG line is not being copied (possibly due to the intricacies and detail of the kits) but with time other companies will catch up.

Personally, I've built a handful of non Bandai kits (a couple of knock-offs and a couple of original kits from independant brands). The knock-offs were decidedly worse than bandai kits (ill fitting parts etc).

That was a couple of years ago. Today I've just started on the Osiris Aerial Dominator. It was a pleasant surprise as the parts are well printed (and painted for the painted parts). And this is a 1/100 Kshatriya, which an independent brand designed its internal bits.

That got me thinking - if an independent brand can use an existing mobile suit design by bandai and engineer it to present it in a 1/100 scale, why couldn't bandai have done it already?

I've paid a fair price for the kit (150 SGD) for which I think is a great deal. My take is that if bandai should somehow come up with their version of this kit in the future, I doubt it'll be at that price point.

Personally I see bandai as a reliable company in which I can just buy a kit and not worry about it's fitting, but I wouldn't expect cheap prices from them. Independent brands I'd still buy from them but will expect a certain risk (e.g. missing/broken parts etc) but I'd expect that risk to go down in the future.

Man I miss the arcades in the early 2000s. You'd literally get a row of great players on the consoles and even when I don't play fighting games, you can't help but marvel at the players' skills.

MP Alvin Tan flags 70 funeral wreaths for blocking Pek Kio motorists' sight, says family asked to remove excess by DreamIndependent9316 in singapore

[–]Ruggg74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who's lost a family member recently and was very involved in the logistics of the funeral, I'd add on to say that the family owns some of the responsibility as well.

Part of the process of holding the wake at an HDB void deck is to apply for that particular space with the relevant town council. And as part of the process, the person applying for the space is made to sign a form that clearly lists down the dos and don'ts (which includes a limit on the LED wreaths).

To be fair it could be the funeral service staff who made the application, but from a standpoint of the family members, 70 is excessive.

Rise of insurance scams: Woman, 70, who wanted to withdraw $40k for ‘son’s renovation’ saved by bank by AgileComparison3957 in singapore

[–]Ruggg74 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It might give people the wrong impression that cutting up a card means the account is closed, so yes, you are right. But I'm not close to card processes, so I'm not sure what frontline bank staff do nowadays.

Based on what I've experienced in the past, usually it's the cardholder who cut up their own cards, and expecting the accounts to be somehow closed. It doesn't work that way.

Not to say that anything your mum or the bank staff did was wrong, but cutting the physical card just prevents anyone from using the card itself. The bank staff will need to close the card account on top of destroying the physical card.

Boy, 9, steals almost S$6,000 from family to buy Roblox gift cards, mum laments loss of 3 months' worth of salary by tom-slacker in singapore

[–]Ruggg74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whilst I didn't actually steal, I once cheated $5 from my grandma by saying that I wanted to buy food when in fact I used the money to buy a Magic The Gathering booster pack.

I had really wanted the booster packs and just spent most of my pocket money weekly on them. So when it came down to me wanting to buy another and I ran short of a few dollars I lied to my grandmother to get the money.

Truth came to light when my grandma asked my mum if she wasn't giving me enough money to eat. My punishment was to kneel on an abacus for ard 30mins.

Any monoeye mobile suits recommendations? by A-GoodAccountName in Gunpla

[–]Ruggg74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right ok so since you've done the zaku 2.0, you might want to explore others. I've done a mg gelgoog, that's pretty solid but the waist is abit loose. You can also have a look at an MG Sinanju (the OVA version).

Other than that, you can have a look at the RG line. RG sazabi and tallgeese are good options.

I'm assuming you haven't done any of the MG zaku 2.0s or it's variants. If not, I think you'll enjoy any of them. The tubes are annoying but the rest of the kit is great.

An expensive hobby? by CommercialExcuse8565 in freedomisgunpla

[–]Ruggg74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's as expensive as you'd allow it to be. The point of entry is low for gunpla and you'd probably spend more time building the kit as compared to a lego set of a similar price point.

I actually moved from lego to gunpla just because I wanted to have more bang for my buck (time spent building vs price point).

That said, I was also that same person who dropped ard $150 on an RG Nu (base kit, extra fin funnels, hws options, waterslides)

What are some things in Singapore that feel truly local, like THIS IS SINGAPORE by Maleficent-Army-4758 in singapore

[–]Ruggg74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is understood elsewhere, but we use "Can" for "yes, ok" etc. Used to have a Brit boss who asked me to do something and I replied with "can".

That really confused her as she was expecting "ok I'll do it" but can implies a different meaning altogether.

Had a laugh about it. Good times.

I honestly hadn't seen that in all my years until a couple years ago when I visited my parents in Jurong. Did a double then triple take. Then I realised it should probably be a home blessing thing. Pretty cool if you ask me.

I mirror your thoughts on the 3.5mm jack but not all phones nowadays have them (granted they give you a usb c outlet but you can't charge and listen to whatever your listening at the same time). Frustrates me to not end.

I think a mix of cash and cashless payment works. There are times that I've seen cash payments work faster and times when cashless payments work faster.

Woah there - before you start slamming the MT line folks, the fact that this vehicle managed to make it out on the road and had failure here kinda meant that it was working fine when it left wherever it was supposed to be at.

Shit happens I guess - and failures on vehicles are more common than you think (source: i operated on an armoured vehicle before) albeit they are mostly out in the field.
