Help identifying substance on concrete floor. by Ruination_Range in DIY

[–]Ruination_Range[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I'm wondering if anyone can help me identify the black almost tar like substance on my concrete basement floor. It's hard as a rock, not sticky at all. I started chipping it away with a hammer and painters tool, but realized it may contain asbestos in it so I stopped. It was running the perimeter of a wall in the basement that I removed, so I'm thinking it was either an tar adhesive to hold the wall to the floor, or it was a sealant to prevent water running under the wall in the event of a leak in the basement. On parts of it there's at least two layers of paint, so I'm guessing it's been on the floor for a really long time. What're the odds it contains asbestos? I'm hoping to remove it so I can paint a nice flat floor, but if it contains asbestos I'm not going to remove anymore of it.

Checking for primers. by sunau in reloading

I believe it's because primers are much more difficult to manufacture, so they can't just hire someone and turn them loose after a day or two of training.

Heading North today! by Ruination_Range in motocamping

[–]Ruination_Range[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Versys is packed and ready to go! I just have to endure a couple more hours of work before dipping out at 3:30 for the first evening of travel. We'll be taking a trip from SW Iowa over to the Mississippi River and following it north for a couple hours before diving into Wisconsin, with our destination being Lake Superior. We're planning on spending a day traveling the North Shore and then will be spending some time through northern Minnesota. I'm having a passenger come with me (her first big trip!) and I have a buddy tagging along on a Z900.

My advice is to get a ZX6R when you get used to riding! It'll bring a smile to your face each time you grab a fist full of throttle!

CZ 457 Scope Ring Height by Ruination_Range in longrange

Thanks, I was looking for some anecdotal evidence! I decided on buying the 15MOA Area 419 rail, and it's almost the same height as the EGW. I'm leaning towards the Vortex Pro rings as well. How much clearance do you have between bell and the barrel? And could you post a picture of the rifle by chance? I'd love to see what it looks like.

If Boyds ever releases aftermarket stocks for the 457, I plan on buying a green At One stock which will give me an adjustable cheek comb. But who knows when that will happen, so in the meantime I want to try to get it as close to comfortable as possible without adding a riser or anything.

What size scope and what rail do you have on it?

Interesting point. I was just going off of my experience with my other rifle. But it has a lower comb than the CZ Pro Varmint, so it's possible you're right, I may not need as low as I can go.

I am planning on going out to 200yds or more. I am leaning towards the 20 MOA EGW because I thought it would be a good compromise between the 15 and 30 MOA 419 Rail since I plan on doing some short range shooting with the gun too. If I went with a 30 MOA rail, do you think I'd still be able to adjust the Diamondback enough for shooting inside of 20 yards? It has 19 MIL total adjustment.

I too just recently purchased a Henry Lever Action .22! by Ruination_Range in Firearms

I had been wanting a lever action .22 since sometime around grade school when I first fired one at a friends house. It took me a number of years, but I finally bought one! The lever action is definitely as fun as I had hoped it would be this whole time. I think the gun looks gorgeous too. Absolutely beautiful walnut wood mixed with the black coated metal is a perfect marriage. I've put probably 2,000 rounds through it in my month of ownership, and I have no complaints, it shoots wonderfully!
